Default help for a male bride

I have an unusual question for ya'll. I am getting married in about a month and a half and, while I'm a guy, I will be wearing a wedding dress. As you can quess, it is difficult for me to go to a salon to try on dresses. Finding a dress online is impossible because I have no clue what style will look good, nevermind sizing problems. I am quickly running out of time and am about to loose my mind! Anyone out there with any ideas for me? how could I get some ideas on what styles would work well for me? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. terri

Did you look through any magazines? If you can find a girl with the same body type, maybe that would be a route to take. Also do you want it long, tight, strapless... It is what you want. If you try on dresses on at a store you can say whatever you want to the person helping you. Halloween is coming up you can even say it is for a high priced party. Really it is not for them to judge. As long as you comfortable, who cares.

Now you know how a last minute bride feels. First of all why did you wait so long to go gown shopping? Figure out if you want a staight gown or a full ballroom gown. Are you tall, short? If you are tall and thin ballroom would look great. If you are tall and husky you might want to go with something on the slimmer side. If you are short and thin you might want to go with slim because a fuller gown might tend to make it look like you are lost somewhere in the netting and all.

Do you have a hairy chest? If so, take my advice and cover that up or wax the hair off and go with a nice low cut. Are you wearing a veil? There's fingertip lenth and full length. Bridal salon owners and their stuff will be there to help you through it. You will probably run into trouble getting it fitted since you are getting married next month. If you are using ebay find a gown that's close to your size check out the picture. If you like it, get it and then take it to a tailor and have them fit it for you.

Hope this helps you some.

Ebay has tons of wedding dresses that are priced right!! As said before, you can have it tailored by someone local.

Congrats!

Welcome to the board terrigurl!

I have heard that some bridal/dress shops will let men in their stores after closing. You could just make some phone calls, and explain what your looking for and see if they will let you do some after hour shopping. Also if you know any guy friends that have done the same thing they may know where to go.

I say just go for it, don’t worry what others are thinking, and let them be nervous. Have fun and find the dress that you would love to wear!

PS... Take some friends with you!

Default thanks for the help

Thank you for the welcome and all of the helpful comments and suggestions. I does sound like I have to get brave and just start calling salons until I find one which will help me. I wish I had more time but, due to a bunch of circumstances, it just didn't turn out that way. One of the things i have been afraid of about going to a salon (asside from just being a weenie) is going in and having no idea what i was looking for. But, since i am tall and quite thin, perhaps i could just start looking at ball gown styles and go from there. Luckily I have no chest hair to worry about, so the low neckline might work, except for the problem of having such a small bustline. I guess the other thing I have been afraid of is putting on the gown and not seeing that cinderella I've dreamed about. I guess I just have to be brave and do it!

Thanks all.

I think calling around and asking would help you out. I mean it is over the phone so that makes it easier. I mean after all they want to sell dresses and if it means a little more effort I am sure some will do it to get your money.

I think you will find more people will be open to this then you think if you call around.

Good luck!

I was in a dress store once and the lady working there mentioned that men shop for dresses too... once it was because the guy had lost a bet, but definitely for gay couples (or whatever!) too... don't be shy, I'm sure they've seen it all.

Hey Chris....I think you would get more responses if you would start your own thread...not only that but like Lacey said earlier, it is kinda annoying!!
