Default Good Blogs/ Photos to use?

I need inspiration!

Does anyone else get the feeling they're looking at the same photos of the same weddings and designs over and over? lol What are some personal touches and "little things" you guys did to make your wedding all yours? Have any favorite blogs or anything you guys used to get those inspirations??!

I think that it helps to try to think about your environment or your interests. We got married in Las Vegas so we used black and red, like the colors on playing cards, and put chocolate casino chips and playing cards on the tables.

that's such a good idea...we're doing a Catholic wedding- so the ceremony will be pretty traditional. I'm not a very traditional person at all, so I want to make sure the reception does a good job of showing how fun and free-spirited we both are and this is NEXT November, so I still have time to have fun! lol

We did a total Fairytale theme - carriage ride, fairytale-inspired invitations, some of the music, even my father/daughter dance was to "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman (although, I had that song picked out looooooooong before I knew we were doing a fairytale theme, or even before I'd even met the groom for that matter! LOL).

What are your interests? What colors are you using? It's going to be fall - are you going to go with an Autumn theme, or perhaps a Christmas theme?

Here are some things that made our reception a little different. Perhaps not "unique" but also not "overdone."

#1 - Candy Buffet. I got this idea from this forum, and I had SEVERAL guests come tell me that they've never heard of a candy buffet at a wedding before! There are LOTS of pictures in the Wedding Pictures forum in a thread called "Let me see your candy buffet" or something like that. Anyways, it went over really, really well and was TONS of fun, and added something a little unique to our reception.

#2 - The Carriage Ride. Definitely not "overdone" but perhaps not "unique" either. You might be able to find someone in your area that does this relatively inexpensively if that interests you - especially if you live in a more "Country" area like I did!

#3 - Pink Dress. I wore a pink dress so that I'd stand out a little bit from most other weddings where the bride wears white. I know that not all brides are into that, and most want to wear white for a variety of reasons such as tradition, it's always been their dream to wear white, etc.... and I'm not sure if that's something that interests you, but it's something that I did to stand out and make it not "just another ordinary wedding."

#4 - Groom's Cake. Both DH and I LOVE Mt. Dew. So, we had a Mt. Dew cake for the groom's cake. Didn't exactly fit the theme, but it was something that we really love, so we incorporated that into our reception.

The thing that I found was most helpful was just to pick a theme and go with it! Think of your interests and perhaps tailor a theme around that. But most importantly, what will make it unique is YOU! It's YOUR wedding!!! So what if everything you do has been done a zillion times before?! What makes it special is that it's YOUR day! And people don't go to weddings because of the theme, or the favors, or the wedding colors! They go because they want to celebrate your day with you! So, don't worry if everything you do has been done before... it's special because it's you.

Honestly, there wasn't ONE particular website, blog, magazine, etc. had exactly what I envisioned so I just took a leap of faith and took a little here and there and mostly trusted my imagination. I'm so glad I did because our wedding day was even better than I ever could have imagined!! It was totally AWESOME!!

I agree with Missy! No one site had my specific vision. Tbh I am not sure one could have since I didn't start with a vision! I did however look to things like our interests, heritage, how our relationship started, etc, to come up with our final decor. We ended up having Dutch shoe centerpieces because my husband is Dutch. We had an EVE Online wedding cake, table names, etc because we met while playing EVE and wanted to honor that start! I LOVE being creative, so the rest of it was just simply me having fun with DIY.
