Default Hair Dye Question!

Okay. So I want to dye my hair back to Auburn/Copper for our anniversary. It's my favorite hair color on me! I bought the dye so it's ready to go. However, I washed my hair last night. I know you are supposed to use it on unwashed hair. However, since I workout all the time I feel like my hair gets TOO dirty to dye.

Option one: should I dye it later on today when my hair produces more oil? But then I am going to workout and want to wash my hair. Should I just rinse my hair after my workout, or will it be safe to wash it with shampoo so soon after dying?

OR

Option two: should I workout first, and THEN dye my hair? That way it has a full day to recover before I wash it after a workout.

I just feel like all that sweat wouldn't be good to dye on!

i think the reason they dont want you washing before is
a) hair dye is super drying so a little oil (not excessive though) helps your hair not damage
b) products can alter the color or not let the dye take as well

if your hair is in really good condition i would recommend a rinse at the end of the day... then make sure after you dye to do a good conditioner on it

I have died with clean hair before with no problems.

I would just do a good conditioning treatment after the dye job either way.

I ended up waiting until after my workout. My hair isn't completely dry yet, but the color doesn't look like it came out dark enough. Sad because I really liked the color last time I did it! If I still don't like it tomorrow I will wait a couple weeks and try again.

I hate it when a color doesn't come out like I thought ... hopefully you can get by with it and find a better one.

Yeah I know! Bummer.

Here's the color I got:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Garnier-Fr...Color/10533219

It came out really light and not much different than my normal medium brown hair color.

That is a nice color. If your hair is on the darker side, it may be harder to show certain colors.

If you are looking for a red tint, I would go for a brighter one, your natural color will tone it down some ... do a test strip to see if you like it though.

Good luck

Last time I dyed it was a dark, chestnut brown. However, it's long faded back to my natural light brown. I have used this color before because I like the mix of red and brown... however, not enough red this time around. We'll see what it looks like in a few days.

Thanks!

I don't usually do test strips, but I might start. I just can't get a good feel from them anyway.

i usually have to mix box colors... i found one i really like called ion medium copper brown at sallys... it just adds a red tint so if you want to go really red you might like medium red or burgandy brown...
The only bad thing is you have to buy the dye, the creme, the bottle, and gloves seperate... but this usually lasts a long time before fading at least on my hair!

It's been two weeks. My hair isn't feeling dried out, so I am trying it again. This time, going with a kit I did once and LOVED.

http://www.drugstore.com/loreal-coul...-header-178692

I have a repairing conditioner treatment to put on afterwards, so hopefully that keeps my hair from being over processed... but I just can't stand this dull color! I never got a good picture before, but here's my hair the last time I used this kit:

However, when I dyed my hair a darker auburn at home, and went to a salon for the highlights I got this:

Not sure which look to go for! I think I want to lighten up and go with the first look since I've had dark hair for awhile now. Plus, I am debating going blonde for the Summer, so this is a good stepping stone!

PS: Sorry for the huge photos! Wish I could resize them on here!
