Where would people leave their cars? In the first location, then the "shuttle" take them back to it? Or at a third location that's kind of in the middle? I mean it's a great idea, what's traditionally done in this kind of situation?

Yes, a shuttle would take people in both directions, OR, if you arrange for one or more persons to drive people, those same people would drive them back to their cars.

As a wedding photographer i have certainly done weddings that have separated the ceremony and reception site by an hour. It can be done, but the one thing i noticed is it kind of takes the wind out of the party's sales. Thats a lot of downtime between things. People decide to just pass on the reception or wedding. I would try to do them closer together. Not that its simpler, but your day should be as fun as possible, and it will already go by fast and you dont want a big chunk of it stuck in a car.
