Default Horrible luck...
Kevin and I have been working around the clock on our book that is due on November 15th (he writes, i design). Tonight, my program crashed and now all the files related to it are "damaged" and it won't let me open them. Everything else on my hard drive works, but I just lost about 8 out of 12 chapters from our book.

I feel like such an idiot for not backing it up in time. Everyone I tell asks, "well don't you have a back up somewhere?"

UGH! If I did, I certainly wouldn't be freaking out and trying everything under the sun to recover my project. I'm so frustrated and stressed out. I don't know how we'll finish it in time now if we have to start from scratch.

Talk to a techie - they might have some tricks, plus there are all kinds of programs that might be able to restore the damaged files. Don't give up!

I've contacted a few friends that do IT. So far, none of their ideas have worked. I also downloaded a recovery program that repaired a bunch of files, but it still didn't open the one I needed.

My last resort is to send it to my publisher. He has had similar errors before and recovered his documents, but his iDisk isn't working right now so I'm not able to upload the corrupt file yet.

Looks like I'll be awake until he fixes it and I can start uploading!

OMG i so know what you're going through. I lost my book on the PC once. Then when i finally got it back, all the chapters were muddled up. Paragraphs swapped around. Big chunks missing. It was very frustrating.

Unfortunately i can't remember how we got it all back. My "now Ex" Husband retrieved it for me. But i was running around like a headless chicken thinking two years of work had gone to cyperspace.
