Yes, i would say don't let them start the dinner without you. You and your FH are the guests of honor. And as the most important guests, I think it would be weird for you two to come in the middle of dinner. You can serve appetizers and drinks till you two arrive. Just let your guests know that it will be a late dinner. I don't think anyone will really have a problem with that
