We DIY'ed everything but the dress, which was my mom's prom dress. It was the only way to do it and afford it at the same time, and I am so glad we did. Now it's a point of family pride that we cooked for 80 people or that my MIL grew the flowers, grandmother in law made the tablecloths, etc etc. It's not just that we got married, we accomplished a lot of stuff too.

I would not have had it any other way!

I wouldn't DIY my dress (I can't do anything like that, and I don't know anyone that can), but I may have agreed to having someone else make my veil. I also wouldn't have DIY photography unless I knew someone that had photographed a bunch of weddings and had good samples. I thought about DIYing the music, but that would have been a pain for us; I was really glad we got DJs. And I wouldn't DIY the food because that would be way too much work.

As for the DIY stuff that we did do... we got the print yourself invites, which are kind of DIY, and we completely did the save the dates ourselves. I also did everything for the centerpieces, which were also the favors (hershey rosebuds). And we also created the programs ourselves.

I wouldn't do the dress, photography or catering no matter what because I just don't trust myself or have any friends with those particular talents. I am lucky to have some awesome friends and family who played organ for the ceremony, baked our "cutting cake" since we had cupcakes for the guests, did my makeup, and helped me with favors. I didn't diy invites or flowers but feel like I could have if everything had been a lot less formal.

We DIYed invitations, ceremony music CD, favors, and the cake. The food was a semi-DIY; we picked out what we wanted, and paid a friend to buy, serve, and clean up. We had a professional photographer for the ceremony only; all the other photography, and all the videography, was done by friends. Thus, about the only thing that wasn't DIY in some part was the dresses. Given my (lack of) sewing skills, there is no way I would have attempted that!
