So last night we got some really bad storms. We noticed it started to get really ugly out so we decided to drive very quickly to our universities campus because we live in an apartment building on the 2nd story and we can't hear tornado sirens from where we live. So we got to campus just in time for the sirens to start going off. We came to campus because the Campus' main building has a basement (where all of the mailboxes and such are and offices) our friend has an office down there. We ended up having to take cover in the basement for 2 hours, but we made it out safe so that is always a plus :)

ANYWAYS come to find out a lot of trees are down and such, including one in our yard and lucky us it landed on our electric line. Well we reported the situation to the power company, and I guess they said that 300,000 people are without power and it will take them about 72 hours just to assess(sp?) the situation. Then maybe more time after that to fix it. So we could be without power for a week! (I am posting this from my campus' library) We JUST filled our fridge with food from the store about 3 hours before the storm. Soooo we had to quickly bring all of our frozen food to a friends house to store so we don't lose it all. OH! and we are on a well, so we have no water either, because the pump, well, it can't pump the water. So we have to go to friends house to shower and use the restroom... I think we may have to move out until the power comes back on lol PLUS we start our last year of college classes on Thursday, so I really hope the power is back on by then.... but they said up to a week erg!

It is pretty flooded here, and we are expected to get another 2-3 inches tonight from another storm system moving in. GREAT.

Oh, need a mention, I am like deathly afraid of storms.... oh how I love the mid-west.

So If I'm not around for about a week that's why!

At least you were safe. Hope all goes well! Did many other people take refuge in the college basement?

yes! I am thankful we are safe, that is of course the first concern!

Not too many, its not like a community safe haven or anything, we just knew that as students at the university that there is a basement there. Our friend (a groomsman in the wedding actually) has an office down there and he is in charge of calling us if the sirens go off since we can't hear them. He was heading to his office so we just sat in there with him. It was good because we could hardly tell it was storming from down there except when the power would flicker. haha, we could tell big time when we would sneak upstairs for a peek!

I was at a concert last night (outside) and it was held off for a while b/c of storms that went through. Also as I sit here typing it is BLACK outside, thunder and lightnin, the rain has yet to start but it is pretty nasty.
I don't mind storms, but I do NOT like tornados, they scare me (although I have gotten much better since I was younger)

The biggest thign we get up here is bad thunder stomrs ( and snow storms in the winter but that is differnt ). We had some mafor storms a few nights ago. Usualy you see lighting then wait a few and then hear the thunder, well there were 3 or 4 storms all around me as well as the one right on top of me. I woudl see lighting and hear thunder at the same time. I recorded some of it withmy digital camera. I showed my husband as he was working in another town. There were major major light shows. It was cool.

I am glad to hear your ok and no one got hurt. Sorry about the no power thing. That has to suck. I hope the rain dosent add up to too much.

Glad you guys are ok!

We have had a couple of storms here the last couple of nights and more is expected this weekend.

A big tree branch fell on my brother's car yesterday; I don't know the extent of the damage if much at all, but that is what I heard cause my mother freaked out about it ;)

I know we need the rain, but I hate the storms and so do my dogs :(

So I hope we get our internet back soon!

Oh no! I hate when storms do that! I hope everything works out quickly for you! I have a friend who lives just north of Chicago, I believe. Good to know you're safe!
