I am getting married in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. October 14th. 2006. I have about 25 guests coming. I would like to have o'deurves instead of a sit down meal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should serve? or if that is something that is okay to have at a reception of this size?

First off, welcome to the boards! Everyone here is very friendly and so helpful!
Now, on to your reception...you can serve whatever you want at your receptions. Just because it's a small reception, doesn't mean you need to have a huge meal. How formal or casual is your event? You could get really fancy with your food, or just do something simple like pigs in a blanket.

Well as she said, it basically depends on the formality of the event. If it is a formal or very formal event then gettin fancy w/ your food isnt such a bad idea...Also, what kind of budget are we lookin at? Sky's the limit or just the basics? What kind of theme are you having for your wedding? You can incorperate that into the reception as well...For example, I am using a butterfly theme for my wedding; therefore i am using a butterfly theme at the reception as well...It all depends are how much you acn (or are willing) to spend on both wedding and reception..If you are looking at no specific theme we can work with the color theme, then move to food and drinks..If i was you, i would use both alcholic and non- alcholic beverages...I have a non alcholic punch recipe........What kind of event do you like/ Fancy royality style or More of thesimple yet elegant? or A smple pot luck type thing? ( Pot luck isnt so bad) saves you money.....

Canmore is so pretty! I use to live in Calgary so its very close to my heart.
Anyways... typically chicken or beef is served with a potato and vegtable. But, it's really up to you. Choose somthing that suites your FH and your tastes and budget. Perhaps discuss it with your catrer. They may have some suggestions on what to serve.
It also depends on if you are going to have a sit down dinner or a buffet. With a buffet you can have a few more options. Possibly a pasta dish that could cater to any vegitarians.
Good Luck! Hope we can help!

I agree with everyone, it does depend on your wedding formality. However, if you're looking for something a lot more formal, but on a low budget, then hors o'deurves is a great idea! You can get some really nice hors o'deurves on a relatively cheap budget...look into sam's club or costco or BJ's or whatever the Canadian equivalent is. I LOVE the mini egg rolls and quiches! Good luck and welcome to the boards!

Welcome to the board!! Canmore eh? I could just pop by there and see how your wedding is going next October...lol...I'm in Alberta too...but don't worry I won't do that because by that time I'll be in Grande Prairie. Anyhow, like everyone else said, it all depends on the formality of your wedding and such. With a little more info, I'm sure all us girls can give you some great ideas!! Again welcome and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

Thank you! In response to all the replys.I have made a couple of decisions about my reception. I have decided to get the caterer to make hot and cold o'deurves (something heavy enough so my guests don't leave hungry). And the caterer seems to be very flexible. As for my theme I'm not quite sure that i want to do anything major. My reception room has beautiful views of the mountains.I was thinking of lining the tables with candle light and flowers in vases. If anyone is looking for something to do with there candle holders and vases heres a neat idea. I went to the scrapbooking store and i found wedding verses and friendship verses that rub on to various objects. And i found they looked very nice on my vases. It's actually quite inexpensive.

Can I ask what time your reception is at? I just wanted to tell you about my cousin's experience with serving "finger food". Their reception was at Lakota Lodge (nearly Morley...I'm sure you know where I am talking about) so there were no neighboring resturaunts for people to go to eat at before (not a problem there for you because you are in Canmore for your reception!) and a lot of their guests ended up going hungry!! People treated it as if it were their supper and the people at the end, didn't get anything to eat!! My aunt was freaking out and asking the kitchen to make more, but they couldn't because they didn't have any food for it! So anyhow, if you plan to only serve finger foods, perhaps mention that on your invitation so that people know to go and eat, and they don't end up going hungry for the rest of the night!!
