Hi there!

I need you help!

We will get married next summer, so I have been starting to look around for that perfect dress you know :grinhappy:. Problem is: I can not picture myself in anything else but a black wedding dress! My fiance agrees - no, he rather applauds the decision. Also, he had the nick name "black" during his highschool years! Of course his bride should wear black! Long time ago in Sweden everyone wore black wedding dresses so itīs a bit traditional in that sense, black has a slimming effect, it is resistant against wine stains, it will be reuseable and itīs just "me".

I have been searching and searching and searching again, but it seems to be a hopeless quest finding one which is not either pure coctail dress, or has a strapless top (I am way to top heavy for those ones...).

So, seriously: Do they even exist - traditional style black wedding dresses (definitely not "goth") ??? If you have come across any - please help me with the link, at least for some inspiration! I am about to give up hope and just get a white one and colour it myself, though it sounds risky :petrified::petrified::petrified:

THANKS!!!!!

I've never run across a traditional black wedding gown (with the exception of the occasional goth one)... If you're not having luck finding one, you might want to look into a very formal bridesmaid dress, or find a design you like in white, and talk to a seamstress about recreating it in the color you want.

You could go see a dress creator. This will cost more, but she can custom-create your gown.

well i know alfred angelo is really good about making dresses match your color. i think to make it not look "goth" you should get something with beading to lighten it up a bit. Would you be up to having mostly white and some black or mostly black with some white?

That would be easy to find :)

Wow, I've never seen a black wedding dress! What about the dress Shanna Moakler wore when she married Travis Barker? Wasn't it like white with a black belt or sash? I always thought it was so gorgeous!

Have you gone shopping yet? If so, ask the dressmakers which dresses are available in black, I know some designers offer it.

remember make sure you really really want this b/c you dont want to look back 15 yrs from now and hate it.
Make sure your not doing it just for a statement-
I IN NO WAY THINK YOU ARE.. JUST MAKE SURE, cuz i knew a girl that did this- she wanted a BLUE dress - like dark blue and hated it a couple years later and said she did it just for the wow factor-
there arent many times when a girl gets to wear a giant white dress so just thinkit through. But i happen to looove the couple on here.

good luck:) most people will accomodate your request with black :)

Have you looked at prom dresses? I guess you're in Sweden though, so I'm not sure if they have proms there. But I would do a search and see if there's maybe a place that sells prom dresses in the US and doesn't cost too much to ship them to Sweden...

I like the idea of a black wedding dress, I think you should totally go for it if it is something that you want to wear!

Leilani: Thanks!!! I never noticed that, but now you made me look a bit more on the fine printed descriptions, and I found at least 3 websites stating that at least some of their wedding dresses are avaliable in black! Thats so perfect! It´s a bit hard to visualize the white ones on the pictures as black instead - but at least it means i´m not out on a impossible mission

EarlyBird: I would like something black - perhaps with some white or pale blue embroderies if thats possible. The first picture is very nice, I found that one to when I googled!
And nope, it´s not any kind of statement on my behalf. I just fancy black! We are not going to have a church wedding, and guess what -i´m not a virgin :bbeek::bbeek::bbeek: - actually none of those traditional reasons for having a white dress appeal to me at all. I just want a dress that looks good - on me! Instead, as I mentioned, the reasons for choosing black are several.
However, if I would go red, or green, or blue or something - I think I would risk that regret you mentioned. But with black, nope - now when that choice has settled in my brain, I only think I would regret it if I did not follow it through.

Frenchie: I thought about that as well, having a dress made, but when I looked it up over here in Sweden, I realised it would just totaly blow up our budget :sob:. However, I´m going to spend the fall in Vienna - so I´m going to look around there and also in Budapest if I can find some cheaper alternatives to have a dress made over there!!! As you said - it may be the best alternative when this is such an "odd" request.

Neebelung & Jess: Yep, we do have prom! However, most of those ones, and most of the bridesmaid dresses, are to coctail for my taste. I did find one though - the attached one, and I really like it :-)

Everyone: THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me out!

i wasnt attacking you and i figured it might seem that way. i myself fear regret with every decision i make for my wedding but i think "eh ill get over it"
At least your a step ahead with knowing what color you want Ummm- there are a couple websites that have "available in "...." (colors, and most include black) - Shipping should be around the same to ship to the USA since they are mostly out of the uk.

I found a couple sites yesterday- ill continue to post if i find them

Also what about finding a black dress that might be a little plain and adding crystals or beads or a sash ? They have this dress in black. The back has the buttons down the entire back. and its only about 200-300 bucks. its a bridesmaids dress but its gorgeous!!!They have this in about 25 colors special ordered!
