So I was just looking through numerous posts and threads on hair. I have noticed that many ladies will grow their hair out long and then after the wedding go back to short hair or their old style. Is this normal??? Do people think your a poser?? I have always had short boy cut hair since I was little. I myself notice after I got engaged, I have yet to cut my hair. I am actually trying to grow my hair out. Its past the shoulders now. Is this a normal thing? I like my long hair but want me hair a different style but really miss my short punky hair... any input???

there is not much to do with short hair- well i shouldnt say that but you dont have as many options as with long hair. you can always cut your hair at the last minute, but its a little hard to grow it at the last minute without costly extenstions. i knew i was getting engaged soon so i cut my hair off 4 inches at the last minute. i wont really cut it that much again or get my layers really until after i decide for sure what its gonna look like for the wedding.
i would say its normal b/c most ppl want the option. I say grow it out and if you find you hate it, then cut it agian.

I grew mine out some before the wedding cuz it needed to be long enough to put up. I got it cut shorter on our honey moon. To me it just makes sense cuz you have more options with more hair. Someone thinking you're a poser is ridiculous IMO.

I have pretty long hair and plan on growing it out to mid back before I am married. Since I am a nurse, we have to have our hair pulled back, and I HATE that, I plan to get my hair cut IMMEDIATELY after the wedding... i.e. day 1 of our honeymoon!

I can't wait. :)

I think it's just about wanting to make sure you look your absolute best (no different than wanting to be in great shape or having one's teeth whitened) for the most important day of your life, and one that will be remembered in photos for years to come. I don't think anyone is going to think a bride is a poser for growing her hair out, or doing something different with it.

For me, having my hair super long is just very high maintenance to deal with EVERY day (not to mention I'm in FL, where it's very hot!)... so I'm going to grow it out as long as I can, and if it's not as long as I like, I might look into some extensions for the wedding day.

My hair has always been long, but i grew it out longer for the wedding cause i didn't want my curls to be short. But now that the wedding is over my hair is really long (I have had it longer) and its hot, annoying that i have to always straighten it and takes forever to curl and dry. And my hair is super thick so that makes it take even LONGER to dry.

I know and have heard of alot of people that grow out their hair for the wedding; I think it is because of all the pretty up-dos. I also know of some brides that have used extensions to get the do they wanted.

I have had long'ish hair most of my adult life, but have been cutting it shorter over the last couple of years (not for the wedding, just for a change) and now I like it shorter :)

I actually usually go through cycles of short (shoulder-length) hair and long hair, and our wedding just made me ready to go back to the long hair. I want to make sure that I have long beautiful curls for my wedding :)

I had short hair for a long time, but I started growing it out when I met FH because he told me he likes long hair best - of course that's not the only reason, I like it too, just it's a lot more maintenance, and he gives me the incentive to bother with it.
I think a lot of people grow their hair out before a wedding because it's easier to make a pretty hairstyle with long hair, but I also am thinking that maybe there's an element of wanting to change. Change because you're starting a new life and want something new. That's one reason why I'm doing it.

I had a boy cut (really short at the back) for my first wedding & I wore a victorian style hat. I grew my hair for this wedding but it's not something I can handle day to day. It just kind of lies limp so I cut it back to shoulder length after. I only grew it so that I could "do something" with it and so that it would be different from my first wedding.

DH likes longer hair. Me? I like short hair (it takes nothing to style!) Shoulder length is our compromise but what he doesn't notice is that it gets just a wee little shorter with each cut LOL

I've had long hair most of my life (it is a little shorter now, because I did cut it after the wedding because I wanted a change) but I wanted it to be longer than normal so that if the style I was looking for needed that much hair I had it... and if not, I wouldn't have had a problem with them cutting it at my trial if it needed to be shorter. Like someone else said, you can always cut some off, but you can't really grow it back (without fake hair of course)

Oh Dear.

It does look very nice in your picture. If you like it that way, leave it and just wear a very pretty veil or even a tiara. It'll be more "you" ;)
I grew out my hair partially because I was tiered of having it short. Not just for the wedding. If you like it by all means keep it :)

Thank you, I really do want to keep it, but i wonder what a veil would look like with it... i am anti tiara, but i thought maybe even a nice head band... oh i dont know, i will have to go and just try things out.

LOL I am not trying to be devious ... I just don't like to spend time styling my hair. I want to wash it, brush it into place and go! LOL

I usually have short hair, and I am growing it out for the wedding because it's easier to do pretty hairstyles with long hair. And, honestly, I want to feel pretty on my wedding day, not punky.

Anyone who thinks this makes me a poser is obviously not important enough to come to my wedding.

Im using my husband's profile to post comments. Donny and I just got married and I am growing out my hair. I think long hair is more fun and on me it looks more feminine. If short hair is more comfortable to you go with it. It's your big day. Do what you want.

My hair is long, a bit past the middle of my back. And it's going to stay that way, for the wedding and after. I even plan to have my hair down for the wedding. It is usually down, and I feel like updo's make me look unlike myself.

I agree - I can't believe someone would say that to you! Especially since a poser is all about the "look" and not the attitude - the "real thing" is having the attitude... So it wouldn't even make sense to call you a poser...

I'll respond in being one of the brides you are talking about.

I've always gone back and forth with long and short hair. I personally like how long hair looks with veils and I knew I wanted to have a veil. So I grew out my hair longer and then the day after the wedding I got it all chopped off again. My hair gets to a certain point and its really hard for me to not get it cut. My hair had just gotten to that point the month before the wedding....so I held out. I'm now growing my hair out again, and I've just made it past the stage where I want to chop it all off....I just got through phases, its just so happens that phase happened right at the time of the wedding. :)

I have had long hair all my life, with one exception when I was about three years old :p Now and then I cut it to shoulder length, but it's never shorter than that.
At present it is all the way to the top of my bum. It -does- get in the way. It gets caught on things, FH rolls over on it at night, etc, etc. It's definately a love/hate relationship. Especially since it's just straight, and too heavy to hold most curl. But I just dont' think I could cut it too short, and I'm worried if I did it wouldn't get as long before this time next year, heh.
I'm going to need a lot of hair to pull off the massive curling and updo for the wedding ^-^.

That's just me personally though, and the style theme we have going. I think short hair with little hats or combs and mini veils are ADORABLE!

I may be in the minority here, but I don't think you have to grow out your hair to be a beautiful bride.

My hair is auburn and not blonde, but this is the style I'll have!
