OMG..... I just found out FH's grandma is going to be moving into his parents house next April and she will be selling her house to us for the remainder of her mortgage which is only $25,000.00!!!!! I can't believe it. It is a modular home, with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The master bedroom has a huge jetted garden tub and a walk in closet!!!! It is perfect for the two of us and the added bonus it is on an acre and a half of land. I am just so excited I could cry. We were begining to stress out about buying or renting a place because we both currently live at home with our parents and in Virginia homes are NOT CHEAP at all..... an average 3 bedroom 2 bath home is $250,000.00 and I work at a real estate company as the administrative assistant and I can tell you it isn't pretty. But anyways, our house payment will only be $436.00 a month!!!!! This is too good to be true, and the thing about it is she is so excited to be giving her house to us, she is already cleaning it up and packing!!!!! We will have from April to June to put in new carpet and paint and ad our touches to the place. I AM SO EXCITED!

That's great news! It's wonderful when things start coming together! :) Sounds like you have great future in-laws - wish we were all so fortunate. LOL!

I do have a question, though. LOL! Where about in Virginia do you live? Because I live in Northern Virginia, and I WISH that the 3 bedroom, 2 bath houses were $250,000....... So it just aroused my curiousity as to where in VA you are. Maybe I need to relocate. ;)

I am in Smithfield, Virginia. I work at a local Real Estate firm... I was just generalizing the prices around here but it is from the $250's - $325's for a good size house, also out here in the country there is a lot of land with most of the houses. I love it here! Where up north are you?

That's amazing. Congrats! I'm so jealous. My rent on my 1 bedroom apartment is close to $600, lol. Glad you got the house though. You must be so excited.

I live about 25 miles from DC and it's a totally different ballgame up here. We can't find a townhouse for less than $325,000 and as you know, you get a "postage stamp" yard with that. So yeah, it sucks. It's just that there are so many jobs and things available here that people have moved here from all over the country/world and it's driven the prices up. Of course. But what do you do? LOL! With my job, because I work in the city, it's not like I can move to another part of the state or anything for those cheaper rates.....sigh. Or I'd have one hell of a commute!

Our one bedroom apartment is $1200 a month. And it's only 725 square feet. Assinine.

So I envy you! I think it's great that you have this opportunity! Congratulations!

That is amazing. You are soooo lucky. We are planning on getting an apartment which is going to be between 1000 and 1500 for a one bedroom and then buying a house in the next couple of years. Real Estate is really expensive out here too.

My parents just bought a super nice 2 yr. old almost 3000 sq. ft. house for like $299. We live in Tennessee.

I wish I could have those prices but I live in FL, about 20-30 minutes from Orlando. This is the cheapest apartment I found around here. I should consider moving, lol.
