SS, DL, Banks, any Credit card companies, savings accts., possible safety deposit boxes at bank, insurance cards,

go through your purse and look at all of your existing cards. and kinda go from there.

atm debit cards, checking accounts,

dmv your driveres licence, registration and Titles if vehicle in your name, ss card, ins. co (life/bank/car), utilities if in your name, magazines, Post office, banks, medical ins. dental ins. birth certificate.

Just to name a few, just grab anything that has your madien name on it and change it with your married name. Most can be done over the phone. Some require you to go to the office.

And for lots of those as well, you can send or fax a copy of your marriage license and that will take care of it as well.

I wanted to change my name as soon as possible. Once I got the certified copy of our marriage license I sent it to Social Security first. I was able to change my name at the bank without the license since I know pretty much everyone there.

If I remember correctly, the DMV wanted to see the marriage licence as well as my Social Security card. Of course the DMV is usually a pain to deal with anyway.

A while back I had come across this site that had all the details about changing your name after the wedding, so here it is - http://www.angelfire.com/ma/dnsassoc/ Of course I don't know if this will help any of our international ladies, sorry.

I know here in Philly when I got married the first time, I sent a form to PennDot with a copy of my marriage certificate and they sent me a new I.D. Once I got my new I.D. I then had to go to the S.S. Office with my new I.D. and a copy of my marriage certificate. For tax purposes, after you have changed your S.S. Card and DL I would then go to the bank and change your account info.

I just wanted to note that I had to get my driver's license changed before I could get my Social Security card changed. I think the rules might vary by state, so I would suggest possibly calling the DMV and/or Social Security to see what they require.

That question was raised tonight by my couple.

What you'll need to do is have a copy of your mariage license as proof of your name change and mariage status. Once your wedding is over the minister/JP will sign it and send it to the county to be registered. Once they do that, they send you back a copy. That copy is what is needed to change your SS card, DL, etc.

Thanks for the info! I found a "Name Change" packet online because I didn't want to forget anything, now that's free!

When I got married the first time, they gave me a packet right at the court house when we went to apply for the marriage license to send to mags. credit card company's, SS and dirvers license.
