View Full Version : I was a bridezilla!

Guys...I did it...I became a bridezilla the other day! It was not pretty!
I went into Joann's and asked to have this bolt of fabric that we're going to use for the bms' dresses and gms' vests preordered so we get the same dye lot. The lady looks at me kind of blank for a second and then says. This color is a seasonal item, they don't make it to order it.
:bbeek: WHAT?!?!?!?!?! HOW CAN IT BE SEASONAL?!?!?!?!?!?! IT'S YELLOW?!?!?!?!?! YELLOW IS NOT A HOLIDAY SEASON TYPE COLOR?!?!?!?!?!?!
Ok, I didn't yell, but I copped quite the attitude and I felt SO bad about it later. Especially since the lady offered to call around to the stores to see what she could do about getting the 20 yds. that I need for the dresses and vests. On a plus side, there is a replacement fabric we can get (not as pretty though). I fell in love with this other fabric so it was absolutely heartbreaking. But that doesn't excuse my behavior...I just couldn't believe it...I was awful!

Kelli,
Don't be so hard on yourself. It happens! I know I had my bridezilla moments as well!! THe funniest thing is that the worst was after the wedding, I called the hotel where we had our reception because some of our personal items had gone missing. I told them they had thieves working for them and that I was missing some of my stuff! I was choked! I told the lady to check with all her staff and to give them royal heck for stealing my stuff! Turns out one of my BMs picked one thing up by accident and the other the lady at the hotel found put away in the wrong spot!! Boy was my face red!!
So as you can see...it happens. I'm sure I could tell you a million stories about what happened and to be honest I wasn't a bridezilla the whole way through the planning but when you dream of something and want it so bad and then things don't work out, its hard not to get upset...even if its got to do with planning a wedding or just buying something you've been looking forward to for a while!!

Awww, i haven't had any yet. But i worry i might too. I've been watching a show on Life Network called Bridezilla's. It's kinda amusing.
But you are totally right.... yellow being out of season in a bit weird. Hopefully they might get it shortly with the spring arrivals. The first i have heard of spring stuff coming in is Jan 9th.
Good Luck finding your fabric!

I have seen and heard of way worse "Bridezilla" moments ;) I hope none of you have the moments I have seen and/or heard about.
I had this one bride totally loose it on the wedding day because the ribbon on the flowers was the wrong shade of blue. Another bride I knew yelled at the minister because he wore a black and red robe when she asked him to wear an all black one.
I know every bride wants their day to be perfect but you just have to remember that in the grand scheme of things, it is just one day in your life. So try not to loose your cool ;)
No, you don't want to get the run around and you don't want to be walked on and of course we all expect to get what we you pay for ... I always tell brides to just breath and think before you speak. That and don't sweat the small stuff and remember you cannot control everything.
Remember that no matter what happens or doesn't happen that you will still end up married ... and usually no one else notices the little 'mishaps'
Best wishes to all of you ladies!

When I went in today to see what she had found, I apologized profusely through another attendant at the store (the lady I was rude to was in the back). She got a good laugh out of how bad I felt about it. She told me not to worry about it, they know how brides are sometimes. She also said that I was the first to EVER apologize for being rude there (the lady I was talking to had worked there for seven years...she must really love fabric!). I still don't feel any better about it though...

Don't feel bad Kelli. I had a bridezilla moment at our food tasting. I requested to taste some vegetarian options that weren't on their regular selection menu and the chef agreed to toss together somethngs. Which was super nice on his part. My only request when it comes to any food at my wedding was that there be absolutely NO CHEESE. I know that it is weird but I totally detest cheese of any type. It also doesn't help that I have a mild lactose probelm either. Well, anyway, one of the dishes that was sent out was a pesto and sundried tomato ravioli with alfredo sauce. (The king of all cheesey sauces, right?) I totally flipped out on our site coordinator who is one of the sweetest people in the entire world. How could I trust her venue to run my perfect wedding smoothly when they couldn't even leave cheese out of an entree. She was trying to explain that it was a miscommunication, but I didn't care. When I got home and thought about it, I felt so bad. Usually I am a pretty calm person. Not many things both me. But by **** I was about ready to make heads roll because of some alfredo sauce. I did apologize when I sent her the email confirming what we wanted for our dinner menu. (One item was not the alfredo sauced ravioli!)

I understand your frustration about the cheese mishap Lacey ... but it is better that the 'miscommunication' happened before the wedding though, right?!
I had a bride I was working with once that said no lemon or citrus to be in any of the food. (the groom was allergic to citrus) So we went to meet with the caterer for a sampling and one of the things they served was Lemon Pepper chicken! As soon as the brides tasted it, she just looked at me and said "please fix this so I don't go off on this woman" (I had noticed about the same time) I kind of laughed at the way she said it ... and told the caterer about it. She showed me where they had made big bold notes about the restriction in the brides' file but that her assistant had brought out the wrong dish for the tasting. (opps) No one "blew up" (of course the bride was in the corner steaming) and the lady apologized profusely (luckily the groom was not there) And gave them an upgrade on the menu. The food at the wedding was perfect.
I had another similar issue with a vegetarian dish that had chicken broth in it ... turns out some people don't think about broth and such when preparing a vegetarian meal. When I use to work at this Mexican restaurant, they served a vegetarian bean enchilada and it had a souse on it that was chicken broth based.
So I guess it is always best to confirm, confirm, confirm all the details with all your vendors. And in the case of food and restrictions, confirm again ;) You know what they say, sometimes it takes a few times hearing about something before you learn ;)
This is also another reason to have a coordinator or 'detail person' to deal with all the vendors and make sure you get what you ordered. I was the coordinator at a wedding once and the bride was allergic to dairy. Everything was perfect expect they put out ranch dressing for the salads! (they left the cheese off though) I caught it and they fixed it and the bride never knew ;)
Best wishes,

While I don't detest cheese, my body does. I've made sure that our entire menu has NO lactose product of any kind on it. However, there will be sour cream for the potatoes on the side and ranch dressing for the salad. But that's it and the sour cream was really a push on the FMiL's part...I don't like having it around because I REALLY LIKE IT but my body doesn't. But she insisted, so hopefully I can exhibit some self control when it comes to that...and the ranch for that matter. Although, I have to say, I can't see how someone could detest ALL cheese. I don't like parmesan or swiss, but man would I love some really cheesy pizza or some chili with cheese all over it or...ok, I'm too hungry to be talking like this.
One of the caterers I was looking at was going to charge an additional $5 per person because I had asked to use margarine instead of butter (for the lactose reasons). Needless to say, they got knocked off the possibilities list REALLY quickly.

Isn't margarine cheaper than butter anyway?

YES!! That's why I couldn't believe it! It wasn't like I was going to decide on something covered in cheese and then make them go out and buy tofu cheese instead of the real stuff. I guess it's just because they don't keep margarine on hand...but with the health-craze that is circulating the nation lately, you think they would. GRRRRRRR!

I know Nikki! I'm totally craving it too! A nice vegetarian with olives and tomatoes and peppers...oh there's this gourmet place by my mother and they make a vegan pizza that is to DIE FOR! It has artichoke hearts on it, tomatoes, spinach...oh it's so good. And no cheese on it so I don't have funny looks when I order it with no cheese. Although, I WOULD LOVE to try that one with a nice layer of ooey gooey mozzarella all over the top of it...yum! Ok...no more pizza talk...I'm ending it here...anyone mentions pizza again and its...:chair: hehe...just kidding y'all.

My FH eats this, sometimes on toast. It took him along time to find sausage gravy around here. There is a certain kind of beans he likes that he couldnt find up here so he had his mom send him a ccase of it. They smell so bad when he cooks them :bbconfused: . I WILL NOT TRY THEM! I am not picky but the smell is too much i cant do it.

I'm wary of items that smell kind of funny too...and for whatever reason, no offense to those of you who live below the M-D line...Southerners tend towards smellier stuff. I think it's because Northerners have weaker smellers...lol

I eat beans to a point...pork and beans and of course, green beans, which don't quite fall in the same category...and I don't think it's chili without beans, but there are some beans that I just won't touch. For instance: Taco Bell beans...worked there for a month and saw and smelled enough of those dehydrated pieces of :censored: to last a lifetime...bleck.

Maybe it is the Yankee in me but beans are nasty. With the exception of black beans and kidney beans in chili I won't have it.
Every holiday my grandmother makes a huge pot of lima beans which I hate. Every holiday I go in and say "Lima beans, yuck!' and every holiday for the last 26 years she says, "Lacey, you love lima beans you ate them last year." And every year, I say, "No I didn't". Finally last Thanksgiving we were there and I did the lima beans yuck thing. Grandma did the but you love them thing. Then my 14 year old cousin, Shaun, goes, "No she didn't Grandma. Lacey complains about them every year. She has since I can remember. Why don't you just microwave her some corn or something so she will be quiet about it." I about died laughing.

Lacey that's hilarious! My FH's grandmother is ALL about stuffing the turkey and she got insanely wildly mad at me when she found out that I hadn't stuffed the turkey this year. Grandmother's have strange rules...lol. When I told her I didn't like stuffing out of a turkey (because I got really sick from it one year and NEVER want to have to go through that again) she said...Well you ate mine last year! I was trying to be nice last year, and I did not eat very much until the crock that hadn't been stuffed in the bird came around. What was I supposed to say...I just smiled and went back to latticing my apple pie...that woman drives me CRAZY sometimes!

I don't stuff my bird either. I just get freaked out thinking about all the salmonella cultivating inside of it. I had food poisoning once too from a gyro at the "Johnny Appleseed Festival" in Lisbon, Ohio. I never want to repeat that moment.
