Just curious.
I know it's expected that bridesmaids and groomsmen buy their own dresses/suits/shoes/etc.
FH and I both thought it was kinda rude (though we know it's tradition and I don't mean any offense!) to ask someone to be there for us at our wedding and then ask them to plop down a ton of money for it. To us, it seemed like it'd be having them PAY just to be part of our wedding.
So we're totally footing that bill. I'm just wondering if we're the only ones?
I didn't actually know that was common until I started wedding planning. When I heard it, I was floored. I have only been a bridesmaid once, and they paid for all the BM dresses...I never thought anything of it.
Like I said....just curious.

I think its a very nice and thoughtful gesture if the budget allows for it. For ettiquette purposes though it is generally acceptable to offer to pay and it is acceptable for the bridal party to purchase or rent their attire too.
Personally, there was no way we could afford 6 bm dresses and 6 tux rentals. We did find the least expensive dresses we could and the girls still liked and I got some awesome buys on the tux rentals too. I also let my girls choose the dresses too.
Anyhow, I don't think it is rude to have your bridesmaids pay for their dresses and the same goes to the tuxes. If you are asked to be in the wedding it is expected. Although, I don't think its fair to make them pay an outrages amount though either. I think the bride and groom should consider the BP's finances when picking out attire. That's just my opinion.

I have been in 6 weddings and only 1 of them paid for ANY of the dress! She paid about 50 of the total! I was also just out of college for all of the weddings! It is so nice of you guys to buy the dresses!
BUT I do think it goes with the territory of being ask to be in the wedding and say YES! I have told me girls NOT to buy me a gift that their gift to me was them being in the wedding!!! I bought their shoes and jewelry though!!!

i am young and my BM are all my age and in college and broke and 2 of them dont live here,so i paid for their dresses just because they were having to travel really far just to be here. I wish i wouldn't of offered to pay for them, just because it sucks and i don't have money either. But it all turned out okay. The dresses weren't that expensive. $100 and i had to pay for 2.

Holy moly! I guess that would make a huge difference.
We're only buying for 2 BM and 2 GM. Twelve people and we'd have to cater McDonalds! :winktongue:
