Does anyone have a suggestion of where to look for "untraditional" bridesmaid dresses? We are having a beach wedding in mid August and I don't want my girlies to be all hot and sweaty. Most bm dresses are a satin material or a derivative of that, so I was thinking something that could breath a bit more. I initially found dresses I loved from J.crew, but you can't try them on....Any suggestions??

I am also having a beach wedding in August in the Bahamas. I had the same concern. I first didn't want my girls spending a lot of money on a dress they are only going to wear 1 time. Second, I don't want them getting hot and bothered in the dress standing outside at the Beach. Third, I didn't want the dress getting messed up on the sand. I always wanted a sexy nontraditional red bridesmaid dress. So when I seen this dress at Macy on sale, I feel in love with it. I also found the matching red flip flop at a local shoe store. Try your local department store like Macys, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales etc...

my bm's are wearing VERY cool dresses! They're mostly organza with a very thin underlay.
I didn't want them sweating to death sheerly out of the weather and of their nerves.
Also, I didn't want them looking like your average "bridesmaid". Our dresses are made my crystal.

Ann Taylor, Macy's, Nordstrom, or Roxy has some really cute ones! I am getting married on the beach too and my girls are wearing silk...it is a little more costly...but THEY decided this is what they wanted...check them out...ariadress.com LOVE THEM!!!!

Silk or cotton (natural fibers) are definitely the way to go for comfort in an outdoor setting. My most practical Bride this year chose a V-neck, empire waist, tea length dress with chiffon overlay from Dress Barn in chocolate brown for an August wedding. Cost: $39.99 each. Infinitely wearable again, and just as attractive as a "bridesmaid" dress, similar style, that cost $200.00 from Watters.
Be creative, think "outside the box" etc. yada, whatever.
It can be done!
