Should I have the maid or matron of honor beside me at the alter...Is there a proper way or is it just personal choice???

I moved the post to General Chat; didn't think it was really DIY ;)

Most weddings I have been a part of will have the MOH and BM up on the alter with the couple. If there is not enough room then they can stand on the floor with the rest of the wedding party.
When the processional begins the order is typically the opposite of how everyone entered, as follows:
Bride & Groom
Flower Girl & Ring Barrer
MOH & BM
Remaining BM's & GM's paired
Any ushers or candle lighters would be last
And then some people include the parents; the brides parents are usually the last to enter and the first to leave. That is pretty much how I would do it :)

I don't think I was clear enough in my original post...sorry...
I have both a matron of honor and a maid of honor...is there a certain "ettiquette" on who should stand beside me or is it just personal choice???

I don't think there is any etiquette as to who stands with you. It is usually the MOH, since you have two (maid and matron) then I would have both or neither up there with you; as to not single out one of them. It should be the same with the BM; if you end up not have either of the girls up there then the BM shouldn't be either.

oh no...that's not what I meant...All the girls will be up at the alter and so will all the groomsmen... I was just wondering who should be standing right next to me...the maid or matron...lol
It sounds like it would be personal choice on that as well though..

Oh, ok then ... if they are all going to be up on the alter with you then I would have the Matron closer to you, she is probably older, so that is how I would do it.
ETA - I would have one hold your bouquet and the other be responsible for keeping the train straight and/or out of your way, straightening out the veil (if you are wearing it over your face) and such.
But again, I don't think there is really any etiquette on this.

I was with out minister last night and we actually had a very long talk about this. According to what he told me my MOH will be beside me the whole time. His main reason he said was so that I didn't have to move. He was explaining that when I'm at the alter i'm there and I shoudl have to move an inch for various reasons including that I'll have a jumbo dress on and it gets difficult to swivle in such a small space, and for the reasons of pictures and having a perfect angle.
You could have them one after the other. I woudl said whoever it is you personally are closer to. Matron has the experience right? So I would say matron but that's JMO.
