View Full Version : Our life on the prairie
I think it's time to start a different journal. I'm a married woman now...and loving every second of it!!
We've just been enjoying our married life. Someone asked us if it felt any different and Bruce came up with...It feels more complete. I so totally have to agree with him.
Ever since we got home from our honeymoon, he has been trying to get some field work done. We have been living in a drought for the last 6 or 7 years...but this year, it is raining almost every week. While we were gone it rained...that was good...he didn't have to feel guilty about being gone!!
Yesterday and last night, it rained 3.6 inches. The sump hole in our basement is almost full and the sump pump decided to not work. Guess it hasn't seen water in so long, it didn't know what to do. Thankfully, I have just about everything in plastic totes...so nothing should get messed up until he can get it fixed.
I'm back to working full time. My vacation was nice...but I'm out of paid time, so I guess I need to get back to work. I'm working tonite and tomorrow nite, my favorite time to work. Life is good when I get to watch people sleep all night. Besides, it's easier to get up at 4:30 PM than 4:30 AM. LOL
Tomorrow morning on my way home from work (providing it's not too late) I'm going to stop and pick up a couple of apple trees. We used some of our gift cards to buy a couple of pear trees...and we're using some of our gift money to buy the apple trees. Hopefully, some of them will grow...and give us good shade, good fruit, and good memories! :D
Well, that's a start to my new journal. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Going back to work sucks LOL but I hope for you, that your first day as a Mrs. won't be too trying.

YEA you started a new Mrs. Journal! Buying fruit trees sounds like a great idea, how they grow well for you!
I hated working nights so I admire you to be able to do that. Hope going back to work wasn't to bad!

I love apple trees!
A new journal for a new start to your life. How exciting. I can't wait to start ours in a week! :)
I have enjoyed my first night back at work. I have actually worked a couple of day shifts. They aren't bad...but nights are better. I guess that's just the way I'm wired. I have always HATED to get up in the morning! LOL
Does anyone know how long it takes to get fruit once you plant apple and pear trees? I hope it's not too many years. I'm looking forward to fruit.

hmm, I don't know. I always look those things up on Google.com haha. I think it does take quite a few years. apple trees are great though. my grandparents have a few and we always had apple sauce. haha
Oh, I didn't think to look it up there. I'll do that. My Mom has apples...so I'm not too worried about the apples. But, I'm really looking forward to having pears. I'll have to check it out.

sounds so good! I love fresh fruit right off the tree. My grandparents in florida have an orange and grapefruit tree. I love going out there int he morning and picking my breakfast. haha
I remember doing that when we visited some relatives in Oregon when I was a little girl.
I'm off to eat breakfast that my sweet husband has made me...then sleep the day away. You ladies have a fantastic day!!!

sounds fantastic! Enjoy!
It was fantastic! And then the best part, he even did the dishes before he went to work. Now, am I married to a super fantastic man, or what??? He's so sweet.
I had to go up to the bank this morning and it took over an hour. We are getting a loan to consolidate all our bills. Actually, most of them are our exes bills...but somehow the world thinks we should be responsible for them...so we're stuck.
Yesterday, the banker called and was asking questions about Bruce's daughter. Now, remember, she is 29. Somewhere along the way, over 10 years ago...Bruce was behind on his child support and his boss was withholding from his paycheck. Well, he's had it all paid for over 8 years. Only, the states weren't talking to each other (or so we thought) and it was never taken off his record. Well, today we find out that it really was never supposed to be on his record to begin with. The state was trying to help him out...and file a paper saying he was paid...and the courts filed it wrong. How irritating!!! He about had a heart attack when he first heard about it yesterday!
Now, today, she calls again and asks if I know that I have a lein against my house?? I'm like, NO!!! What is that all about. Well, I guess when my ex didn't pay his fines from his last little run in with the law (he got a DUI after he left me) and they put a lein on MY house. His name has NEVER been on the deed...so irritated me again. Well, the banker, sweetheart that she is, called the county auditor...and got it all straightened out. It's nice to live in a small town where everyone knows what is going on. They are the only ones in the world that say that I don't have to be responsible for his bills. LOL
Anyway, I think all this is straightened out. I'm thinking it's a good thing we decided to do all this...or these things would have been out there and we wouldn't have known about any of it!!

thank god for small towns. although it didn't help me any with my divorce. lol. i still got stuck having to file bankruptcy on his butt. from all his bills he so kindly left for me to pay, since he didnt' work. oh well enough of my ranting. lol.
that is wonderful that theywere able to take care of the house problem for you though. i know that is a relief to both of you.
That is exactly my problem. I got stuck with all the bills because I work. He works too...but just ignores things, always has!! That's why I get stuck. It sucks...but what is a person to do!
I should have filed bankruptcy...it would have been easier. Some of these people were quite rude to get balances out of. I absolutely was amazed at how unkind some of them were when I was trying to call to find out exactly how much we owed.

ARGH how aggrevating. I HATE banks. That sort of happened to Nick and i when we first got married and we were not that lucky to have someone be so nice! They were pretty much denying me from changing my name for a reason or other at the bank etc. It jsut drives me insane. Money problems follow you for the rest of your life no matter how good you are now. Glad you got it all done. Sorry you had such a hard time sweetie!
Actually the bank has been the best. It's some of those people that the ex's run up the bills with that are being a pain in the ***!! I have banked at this bank my entire life. I've had several loans...always paid on time...so they have been great!!
I just don't understand why a person that is supposed to be collecting a bill has to be such a jerk! I would think that when I am calling THEM...that they would be helpful...not RUDE!!!
Oh,well, that's my rant for the day.
We went and signed the papers, so in 10 days....ALL these bills will be a thing of the past...and we just have to pay the next 5 years to get it all cleared up. I wish there was some way to make the ex's do their fair share...but there isn't!
The sun is actually shining here today. Boy, do we need some of that. It has been raining and cloudy the entire week. The hard thing is it is soooo humid and supposed to be pretty warm today. And it's too wet for my sweetie to be on a tractor, so he'll be outside trying to get things done. Yuck!
Tomorrow, if it isn't raining, I'm going to take Kaelie to a little kids fishing tournament. Darcy & I took her last year, but Darc has to work this year, so I'm going to take her by myself. Bruce might go too, if he doesn't work.
Well, now I need to go to bed for a couple of hours. I'm picking up little Miss Kaelie at 5PM...need some sleep before then!!!

Especially when you're calling to find out how much money to give them. I'm never rude to people who are giving me money. LOL
Especially when you're calling to find out how much money to give them. I'm never rude to people who are giving me money. LOL
Me neither. I was always taught you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. I would think they would want to be nice...or lose me sending them their money!!! LOL
Well, I had a fantastic day...at least so far. When we got up this morning, it was raining, but not that hard. So, I decided I would take Kaelie to the fishing tourney anyway. Darcy said she had been having a fit..."I hate rain, I want to go fishing". She was so excited when we decided to go anyway.
It wasn't raining too hard, just a little. We went out there and fished for about an 1 hour. Then it started lightening, so they decided to call it quits. It was only supposed to last 2 hours...so that wasn't bad. The kids were catching lots of fish. Kaelie didn't catch one...but she still had a lot of fun. Then they take them to a little place and feed them hot dogs, chips, and pop. Yeah, I know...real nutritious...but for one day, oh well!
Then they hand out prizes. Kaelie got a really big red fishing pole, a reel, and some tackle. They also gave them a neat book about fish and a t-shirt. She was so excited. She has been after Bruce ever since they got home, to put her reel on her pole. He couldn't do it cause he needed to leave again...but he promised her he would do it soon.
Then she and I laid down for a nap...or I did anyway. The little turkey wouldn't sleep...so her Mom isn't real impressed. We were laid down for 3 hours. I guess she just wasn't sleepy.
Now, tonite, we are going to a bullarama. It's a bull riding thing. My son used to ride bulls when he was in high school. Thankfully, when he graduated, he figured he couldn't make a living at it and gave it up. This one tonite is a memorial for a friend and classmate of his that was killed in a 4 wheeler accident last fall. A lot of their friends will be home. Jer can't come because they were just home...but I'll get to see some of the kids that used to hang out at our house when they were teens. I hope his Mom does OK. She was a classmate of mine, too and is such a sweetheart. I can only imagine her pain. I try to call her once a month or so...just to let her know someone cares.
Tomorrow, I think we're going to church, then I'll need to nap because I have to work tomorrow night.
I hope all you ladies are having a great weekend. Oh, btw...the sun is shining now and it's beautiful outside!! YAH!!!!

the fishing tourney sounded like a blast regardless of the weather. and they always say they bite better when it storms or right before one. sorry she didn't catch one but it sounds as if winning the rod and reel more than made up for it. lol. i used to go watch bull riding lots. my family grew up around that sort of thing. showing horses and all we spent lots of time at those types of entertainments. lol. i hope the rest of your weekend is just as nice.
She did have a very good time. So did I. I'm glad we went even if the weather didn't cooperate very well.
I can't believe how much it has been raining. We had been in a 6 or 7 year drought. Everything was soooo dry. One of our farmer friends was laughing yesterday that, in the last several years, if the weather said 90% chance of rain...it sure wouldn't happen. This year, if they tell us 10% chance of rain, we're going to get at least 2 inches.
Bruce is quite worried about the wheat. We had a wonderful crop coming...but now that it rains all the time, it looks like it's going to have some diseases. And that bites. I would never think we would be complaining about rain...but I think it's about to happen. LOL
Today we had kind of a lazy day. We watched the race...or Bruce did. I took a nap because I have to work all night. He had made breakfast this morning, so I did the dishes. He got some calls telling him Happy Father's Day. He really liked that. He hadn't heard from his daughter in a very long time until just last winter...so it was good to have her call him.
Darcy brought Kaelie over for just a couple of minutes after I got up. She had just gotten up too, so was ready for some cuddling.
All in all, a nice day. Now I'm at work for the night. Both patients are quite nice, so that makes for a nice night!!

WOw sounds like you had quite the day with your granddaughter she sounds like so much fun. What a great prize she got as well!!!! Sounds like a good day for everyone.
Sorry to hear about all the rain, I hope that your crop will survive and keep growing, I know how stressful that can be, Nicks dad plants corn for the cows and last year he had a HORRIBLE crop and had to buy corn to feed the cows and lost so much money, so I hope that it gets better so you will have a good crop! Those farmers work to hard to have it just die like that. Such a shame.
That is the hard part of being a farmer. They have the stress of the weather, high production costs, and low payments. But, any of the farmers I know love the way of life and fight tooth and nail to keep going.
Hopefully tomorrow he'll get to plant some more sunflowers. He's got 1 quarter done...needs to do 3 more. I'm hoping it didn't rain too much more. It stormed pretty bad here in Pierre...but hopefully it passed by the farm. I'm dreaming...someone had better wake me up from my nap!! LOL
I have one more night of work, then I'm off until Friday. I'll have to sleep today, but hopefully tomorrow, I can get some sewing done. We'll see!

Working nights isn't usually too bad. Most of the time the patients sleep...and I watch them.
It can get 105-110 in the summer months. You never know what the temp will be. In 1978, on the 18th of April, my daughter was born in the worst snow blizzard we had all winter. On her 2nd birthday, in 1980, it was 105. This spring hasn't been too bad. Yesterday, it was 90 or so...and I think that's the warmest so far.

I sure would send it to you if I could. I guess we got another .20 last night. Bruce thinks that maybe by this afternoon he MIGHT be able to get back in the field.
Here comes the rain to Kentucky!!! Enjoy!!!

WOWZER thats warm. hahaha.
Yep, it sure can get that way. Today it's only about 80, but the wind is blowing at least 35mph. Oh, well, at least Bruce got back into the field. He has just a little over 3 quarters to plant for sunflowers. Then he need to get the millet in. I don't know how much of that there is to plant. I guess we'll see.
I'll bet it doesn't rain the rest of the week. Our friend (Bruce's BM) is single and so is my boss. They have both been saying they are interested in the other...but neither of them do anything about it. SSSSSOOOOOO, I took matters into my own hands. LOL
This morning I asked her if she wanted to go out for supper with the 3 of us Friday night. I told her it would depend on if they were in the field or not...and she understands that. But, now you can bet they will be in the field. It always works that way.

ohh match maker! Hopefully they are able to go out and have dinner!! Never know, could be another wedding sometime!
They both say they are not looking for a relationship...but I know both of them better than that. I truely think they would be good for each other!!
hahah, I never thought of myself as a matchmaker. I guess that is kind of fun. I just hope they can each have a little fun in their lives. My boss needs that really, really bad. I don't think she has had a lot of fun since her husband died 5 or 6 years ago.
I guess we'll have to see how it turns out.
OK, ladies...I need help AGAIN!! I do that a lot, don't I?? I want to put an announcement in the paper (especially Bruce's hometown paper in ND), but I don't really know how to word it. Here is what I have so far. Do I say anything about our children and grandchildren? How? What am I forgetting? Tell me all!!

awww well if nothing else your boss can find a friend in Bruces friend. ya never know. I responded about your newspaper ad in etiquette. :)
I've been a busy beaver today. I got the house cleaned, the laundry done, and am fixing supper as we speak. I even slept in this morning.
Usually I get up with Bruce, but he set the alarm for 6AM..and I sure wasn't ready to get up then. I barely remember him telling me good bye!! I slept until the phone rang at 9:30. I couldn't believe it. But I hadn't had much sleep the last 2 days...and I bartended last night...so I guess I was probably tired! LOL
I went and got Kaelie a little bit ago...but she is already off with a friend to go swimming. She doesn't get to swim much this year because her Mom kept her at her daycare instead of hiring a teenager. She didn't want to lose her spot. Last year she had a teen and Kaelie swam just about every day. Big change!!
Bruce got the sunflowers in the ground. Tomorrow he will start on the millet, If it doesn't storm. We have chances of storms tonite..but so far, so good. There isn't even hardly any clouds in the sky!! It was about 90 today...so it looks like summer is here.
Well, better get back at the supper preparations. We are having taco salads. The guy that owns the grocery store recommended it. I was looking aimlessly around the store and he asked me what I was looking for. I told him...something for supper. So I went for it. (Remember, I live in a small town, only 800 people!!)

wow you have been busy! Glad you got to get some sleep, that always helps.
I used to nanny and I always was told it was MUCH better then daycare as they were in their home and got to do outtings and such. But I am sure she is happy to be with you!!!!!!! That is nice of you to take care of her.
Hopefully Bruce is able to get the millet in. No storms!!!! :)
Well, we didn't get to go out for supper. Both of the guys were back in the field. It had looked like it was going to happen even the day before, because we got a BIG storm. But, where each of them are planting, it didn't rain much, so by yesterday afternoon, they had gone back to the field. I was sad.
We had softball size hail. Bruce was talking to Steve and he said one of the kids had left a softball outside..and some of the hail stones were a little bigger than the ball. It was quite scarey. There were at least 6 tornados sighted. I HATE storms.
The good news is that we didn't have a lot of damage. Probably not even enough to turn into insurance. Some others lost windows and dented vehicles really bad. But our only damage was to our new soffet on the north side of the house, and Bruce's passenger side mirror was broke on the pickup. So we were very lucky. We need to look at our roof and see if there is any damage up there though. We haven't done that yet. Some of the crops were hurt...but not real bad. Yikes, I don't like storms!!
Today I worked at the restaraunt, cooking. We had a good day. About noon we had 40 or so bikers come through on a poker run. Their road boss had forgotten to call us, so I had to bartend for awhile too...but it wasn't bad. They were only there about 20 minutes.
I'm still waiting for my honey to come home. He's trying to get as much done as possible because it's supposed to start raining again on Monday. I think he's even going to work tomorrow. So, I'll have to find something to do to occupy my time. I usually don't work on Sunday's because we know that he always has that day off. But, they need to get their millet in before it rains some more!!

my goodness. You life sounds like Little House on the Prairie. Your journal says it all, its insane. I could never do what you do and I admire you for havinga smile on your face through all of this. I hate storms. Glad no one was hurt!!!!!!!
Good news!! Bruce didn't have to work today. Just as he was quitting last night, his air conditioner was acting up. We went out this morning and only made one round because it wasn't working at all. And it's supposed to be almost 100 today...so no air conditioner, no field work! LOL
I was actually kind of glad. I love being in the tractor with him...but it's a lot more fun just hanging out. We drove out to an auction that is going on for one of the neighbors we used to have when I was a kid. They didn't have anything we REALLY wanted and it was too hot to just hang out.
Then we drove out to the river and along the way was looking at crops. They don't look to bad, but you can tell that they have had some hail and quite a bit of rain. The river was quite busy with fishermen. That is nice to see again too.
Now we're home waiting for the race to start. I think we'll just hang out the rest of the afternoon. Then this evening we are going to take some stuff back to my parents home. (their chairs and coolers that we've had since the wedding. LOL) Then maybe I'll mow their yard too. I go back to work tomorrow, so need to get some of this stuff done.

I hate storms too. So glad to know their wasn't any more damage than that to your house or belongings. I have only seen hail that big once in my life and that was about 2 years ago. It was huge and did a lot of damage in my hometime. Glad to know you got the spend the day together.
It was VERY nice to spend the day together. Thank you ladies.
In the evening, I went over to Darcy's and hung out for a little with them while Bruce was watching the race. Then I took Kaelie to Bible School. She always wants Grammie to do everything. It sometimes gives Darcy a complex. But, I tell Darcy that paybacks are *ell because that is the way she used to be when she was little!!
Then I took Bruce's pickup out and washed it. By the time I got done, I had to come home and take a shower. I was a mess....but the pickup was clean! lOL
Then we went to the Fireside for awhile. There is Texas Hold Em on Sundays, so several of our friends go to play cards. It was really nice to visit with them.
Now, it will be a couple of days before I get to see Bruce again. I'll be at work tonite and tomorrow night before he gets home and he'll be gone in the morning before I get home. Thank God for cell phones!! LOL
Well, I think it's time for a nap. I need to hook up a monitor for a patient this afternoon, so I'm napping this morning, so I can be up this afternoon.

You are so right, he did. And thank you for the "happy"!! We were talking about that on Sat. I told Bruce happy 4 week anniversary...and he says..it's not the 26th, is it?? omgosh has it been a month already. it seems like only yesterday. happy one month to you both.
I am sick. I had a cold sore coming on last night and this morning (actually noon) when I went to bed, I could tell my glands were swollen on my left side. I wasn't too worried about it until I woke up and the ones on my right side are swollen too.
The reason that worries me is that about 3 years ago, I had to have surgery to have 2 or 3 of them removed from my right side because they kept swellling VERY badly. They would hurt so bad, I had to go on Vicaden to deal with the pain. They finally decided to remove them for fear of cancer. It turned out they were just badly infected...but I sure don't want to have to go thru that again. I was soooo very sick after that surgery. I have had about 6 or 7 surgeries in my life...and that had to be one of the very worst.
Of course neither of my Drs. were in by the time I woke up. I see 2 different GP's because it seems when I would be sick, the one I started out with was never in her office. Well, wouldn't ya know, neither of them are in the office this afternoon. I called ER though (remember, I work in the hospital) and the ER Dr. called me in a script for some antibiotic. He wants to nip it in the bud, so I don't have to have problems again!! Good man!!
Otherwise, life is good. This morning the humidity and heat left and it is beautiful outside. Bruce is a lot happier camper. Of course, they got his air conditioner fixed...but this makes it run a lot easier. LOL

oh I am so sorry! I hope you are feeling better!!!
Wow, it's been a long time since I've written in here. I am doing better. My swelling has gone down a lot. Hopefully that will be the one and only time...I do NOT want to go thru that surgery again!!!
I had to work nights on Thursday to be nice to a lady whose insurance year changed on July 1. Now, you would think that because I had been sick...and I was coming in out of the goodness of my heart...the scheduling people would have left it at just one patient. Mind you, she is in a wheelchair and can't do much for herself and they knew this when they scheduled her. But, NO!!! They scheduled a second patient...one that has had a stroke and doesn't have use of the left side of her body and is also in a wheelchair and is total care! I wanted to kill. I was totally exhausted the next morning.. and left without making the beds, thinking one of the therapists that works during the day would do it! NO again. I let all 3 of them have it when I came back on Saturday and they still weren't made! I know...what a ***ch!
Bruce got some "honey-do's" done yesterday. He got the faucet fixed so we can water our new trees that we planted in the back yard. I've been carrying buckets of water out there...and after asking for 3 weeks, I told him HE was carrying the buckets until he fixed the faucet. He only carried 2 days!! Good man!
He also put a ceiling fan up that he was supposed to do before the wedding. See, he gets things done sooner or later. I love that in a man!!! LOL But, it looks really nice and sure helps circulate the air in the living room.
I think that's about all we've been up to. We actually got to see each other yesterday with our eyes open. I've been working those nights...and he's been working really long hours trying to get the millet in before it rains again. So, it was kind of nice to have a day to do stuff around the house.
Today I'm working, then I have the next 2 off. I'm telling everyone that if someone needs to take days off, pick me...I can run a combine starting next week. I can't wait!
You ladies all have a wonderful Holiday here in the States. And I hope the ladies in Canada had a great day yesterday!!

ouch sorry to hear about the coldsores. i feel for you on them. i get them horribly bad if i am run down, no sleep and stressed out. not quite sure why i haven't gotten one lately. lol. i can use abreva on mine and it works well. especially if i can catch it fast enough. i hope yours is better soon, they hurt like the dickens.
men are funny, they seem to get the job done but on their time. lol. and it is funny to that when you tell them they can do something it doesn't take them long to fix it then. lol.
My cold sores are a lot better. I keep telling Bruce I got them from not enough kisses!
You would think by the time I have lived this much life, I would be able to get a guy to do things a little faster than I did 20 years ago. I still need some work on that.
But, he had supper made when I got home from work tonite. He had even done the dishes from last night. I was so very proud of him. What a wonderful man!!

Matt had supper done and on the table when I got home from work yesterday too :) Which was a surprise as sometimes he starts it, but I usually finish it. Isn't it great when they do that?!
My mom gets coldsores. She has to get precription med. for it though. She gets them as a form of herpes.... she kissed some guy when she was like 14, and she didn't know he was starting to get one! Now when she gets one shes like everyone stay away don't go near my face lol, she doesn't want any of us to get it, because then we would get them for life.

aww see Bruce is just like any man, they wait to get stuff done, but they get done and look fantastic. :)
Sorry about that women at work, I swear people are super lazy sometimes, I really hate when people just do not do their work. Poor thing, hopefully you get some well needed sleep and time with your hubby coming up!
It's storming here again this morning. I so pray we don't get any hail. Our wheat is just about ready to put in the bin...everyone will be sooooooo very unimpressed if we lose it now. We are just breaking a 6 year drought cycle, so have had a crop in several years. Wind and rain will be fine.
I guess my Mom left for Texas Friday to help with the flooding. She volunteers for the Red Cross. I found out that she left yesterday. It was in the newspaper. She usually gets a call and has to leave right away...so often forgets to call and tell us. I guess as long as Dad knows where she is...that's what counts. LOL
The Dr. says I am very prone to cold sores...I've had chicken pox twice. He gave me some medicine several years ago. It works great. I don't get them but once or twice a year now...so that is better than it used to be!

Glad you are better and hoping for no hail! Do a no hail dance. :)
Well, we didn't get any hail. The no hail dance must have worked. We got about a 1/2" of rain, so made everyone quite happy. At least, until the sun came out and it got to 90 and about 200% humidity!! Then they weren't so happy anymore.
We went to Pierre this morning and got some groceries. We also went to our friends fireworks stand and spent way too much money. We bought some neat things for Kaelie...and a couple for ourselves. Thankfully, this only happens once a year!!
Otherwise, I've been doing a little cleaning and some baking. We've invited some friends over for a cook-out tomorrow night. Then we'll watch the fireworks here in town. Then, Bruce and some of his friends are going to go out to a friends farm and set off the last of them. I probably won't go because I have to be up at 4:30AM for work on the 5th.
Kaelie and Darcy came over and we set off the fireworks that we got for her. It was so much fun. She kept telling Bruce, "Do another one". We had a good time. They are going to go with us to the parade tomorrow too.
I'm off to bed. I have to get my beauty sleep you know!!!

Enjoy your 4th, get some rest though!
I am sure Kaelie just loves seeing the fireworks, that is nice that you can set them off at your place, here in Vermont the bigger ones are illegal and we cannot buy them here :( Stinks
Glad the hail did not come but 200 percent humidity must have been awful.

hey ger, just wanted to drop in and wish a wonderful 4th of July. have lots of fun and shoot some fireworks off for me.
Thank you so much! Kaelie talked Bruce into getting some more fireworks today, so we still have lots to shoot off. LOL
We went to the parade this morning. It started at 10:30 and didn't get over until almost 1PM. It got to be pretty long. Kaelie got a lot of candy. Some of the bigger kids weren't being very nice, so she got kind of bored and hot...but had a lot of fun.
Now I'm making an angel food cake, some potato salad, and pea salad for our cook out tonite. I already made a cheesecake with strawberries and blueberries on it.
I want to wish all of you sweet ladies Happy 4th!!!
hummingbird521
07-05-2007, 02:07 AM
oh the cheescakes sound wonderful. especially the strawberry one. sounds like you have had a wonderful day.
We had a fantastic day!! A lot of good food and fun family times! The fireworks here in town were really nice...and ours were fun.
But, ladies, the very best part!!!!!!!! Are you ready?????? My son and his gf came home for a surprise visit from Denver!!!!!! Do you have any idea how excited I am?!?!?! I miss them so very much. I know Denver isn't that far away...but it seems like it. They left a little over a year ago so Kaiti can go to school, and they've only been home 3 times...one of them for the wedding!
And, they each come from divorced families. All 4 parent families live here, so they have a lot of time dividing to do. Not to mention, their friends sure want to see them. So, we try really hard not to be too crabby about their time. But, it's hard. Her Mother really tries to monopolize their time. They have gotten pretty good at telling her no...but that's hard too. She wears them down. LOL
Anyway, just wanted to share how much fun I'm having! Today, I'm headed out to the field to help move some combines. We're about to start combining and I'm going to help on my days off. I love driving a combine. It is my favorite thing in the world to do!

That must have been the BEST surprise ever. I would have cried, haha. So glad you had such a wonderful day.
Well, actually, I was sleeping when he got here. We are keeping their dog, Bella. She is a german shorthair, so pretty big (and spoiled rotten, lol). He got here about 1AM and stopped to pick her up. He has always taken her everywhere with him, so when they are home, they always have her.
Here is a picture of her on the couch with Bruce. She always wants to be right next to you!! If she could, she would be a lap dog!!
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/100_0054.jpg
Anyway, he came in the house, and woke us up. It was kind of weird because Bella didn't bark. She usually throws a fit when she hears the door open. We have always loved that about her. No one is going to sneak in our house at night...or so we thought!! He just said hi...and they would be here for a couple of days. I said OK, he took Bella and left to go to Kaiti's house. Yesterday morning, when I woke up, I thought maybe I had been dreaming, but Bella was gone, so I knew it was true!!
It has been so cool to have them popping in and out! I really could get used to having them around!!

aww what a beautiful dog!!!
Thank you! She is a very beautiful dog. She is actually quite rare too. Most German Shorthair's are not black. She is almost all black. She has a very small spot on her chest that is white...otherwise she is all black. She is very athletic too. She can leap forever. And she was so funny with the fireworks.
We know that we will not have to worry about a fire while we're sleeping. She hated when anything was on fire. She kept trying to put it out!! We had to hold her really tight if there was anything on the ground. She is so funny.

Some dogs are amazing aren't they? Our dogs always sit and watch us take showers and wag their tails and they never move until we get out. Its just so great.

what a special and wonderful surprise. enjoy this time with them to the fullest.
We are enjoying every second they are here. I get lots of hugs while they are home. I have such a sweet son. He has NEVER been leary of showing his love for his Mom or Dad. When he was in high school, he wrestled. At the last match his Jr. year, they had parents night. The rest of the Mom's got a rose. I got a rose AND a hug and kiss. It was so sweet. The other Mom's were so jealous!!!
I'm missing Bella. LOL She usually is here to greet me when I get home..and hang out in the bathroom while I'm showering. She is with Jer, so isn't here right now. Remind me how much I missed her when she is driving me crazy, OK??
I went and helped one of our farmers get things ready to go combine this afternoon. I thought I was going to die. It is over 90 here and no breezes. I was filling tires with air on the trucks and trailer. On the shady side it wasn't bad...but in the sun was horrid. I'm used to working in the air conditioning..so thought I wasn't going to make it. Thankfully he brought me home about 6 and I've had a shower and am trying to live again! What a baby!!!
I have to work at the hospital in the morning, then I'll probably help him some more. It is time to get to the field and all our custom harvesters are down south in the mud. I sure hope when they get here, it starts raining. I know they hate that, but it's getting kind of dry.
Maybe Bruce & I need to get married again. Or at least go to the Hill's for our honeymoon. Remember how it rained there the entire time we were there?? Well, it quit when we left and hasn't hardly rained since. They are really dry.
Well, I need to go find something for supper. And get some clothes folded.

Hey they always say absence makes the heart grow fonder right? I wonder if that works with dogs too... Hmmm. :)
That is awesome that you helped out with the combine, I would have died as well, I hate heat and working outside, so you are better at it then I am. :) Good for you.
Hope you enjoy your weekend!
Well, we had a wonderful time with the kids. It is so neat when they are home.
Sorry I haven't been around much. It is harvest time here and I've been working a ton of hours. I was running a combine for a friend...but he yells too much, so I quit this morning. Within 2 hours, I had 3 people ask me if I could work for them. They all know I love driving a combine...so I guess I'll have a job whenever I want it for a couple of weeks.
We haven't been getting in until 11PM and getting up and going again at 8AM. It's a good thing it is only for a couple of weeks. This pace could kill me. I'm home early tonite because I needed to pick up Kaelie.
After I picked her up, we went and had some ice cream. Then we stopped to see Bruce while he was waiting in line at the elevator. Then we went swimming. Now she is watching "Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer". Then when Bruce gets home we'll have some supper!
Well, that's been my week so far. Oh, yeah, in amongst everything else, I got most of my thank-yous done. I just have a few left to write. Then that project will be done!!!

Hope married life is treating you great!

Good job on Thank you notes. Sadly I still have a few to write of stragglers coming in with gifts. hehe.
All but a couple of the Thank yous will go out in the mail today. I need to finish up the ones to Steve's (my ex) family. It is so hard to tell them how important they are to Bruce and me. They have been so good to us. I'll work on them tonite while I'm watching these people sleep.
I have been so very busy. I absolutely love driving a combine. It is so very cool to see that grain going in the header and coming out to go to the bin/elevator. It's what we work so hard for. But, it's such a busy time of year. There are a LOT more people in our little town. It's not safe to drive down the street because of all the extra semi-truck traffic. But, it's such an exciting time too.
I think we appreciate it more this year because it's been 5 or 6 years since we had ANY kind of harvest...much less one this good. Some of our businesses have been struggling because harvest brings them a lot of business to help them get through the winter months...and we haven't seen one in a long time. So there are a lot of smiles to go around.
Nothing much else going on. I watched Kaelie Monday evening and we had a lot of fun. I took her to the swimming pool and she is quite the little fish. She even puts her entire head under water. That is one thing she does NOT follow in her uncles footsteps. He HATED the pool when he was little. He liked going to the river...but never the pool. She is like him in so many respects, it's surprising when I find something that she does differently! LOL
On the 4th, Bruce had moved the grill over to the west side of the house on the sidewalk, so that it would be cooler grilling. When she was over Monday, she came in and told me that I needed to move it. I told her that Bruce had too because it is too heavy. She shrugged her shoulders and had a big sigh. She said "It's in my way"!!! I had to laugh. That is where she rides her bike, so she thought she was being put out!!! LOL
I have some cute pictures to show ya. These first ones are of Darcy and Kaelie at the parade on the 4th.

oh the pics are so cute. i love taking silly pictures with my dd. even though she is 17 now we still enjoy it. not long after jerry left out on the road we done some one night with the cell phone and sent them to him. lol.
your granddaughter is a living doll. so cute.
She's my little sweetheart. Thank you so much for the compliments. They are appreciated!!
She came to hang out with me this morning. She was having Grammie withdrawals. She even got to hang out with Bruce for a little while. They have really been missing each other. We've both been in the field for long days...so she hasn't been seeing as much of us as she is used to. I got off early tonite...so went and visited her AND her Mom.

oh what fun. i sure wish my grandbabies lived close enough to come and see me during the week. heck i would settle for more than just the holidays. lol. i miss them dearly. but when i do get to see them i am the one picking them up and bringing them home for a week. i had much rather they live close enough to just visit for the day. lol. i hope u know what i mean.
I do know what you mean. I have a grandson that lives a couple of hours away. I haven't seen him in almost a year. I won't bore you with the details...just know that I miss him terribly. Every time I talk to him on the phone, he asks why he can't come to play at my house. It just about breaks my heart.
I have always told my children that I didn't want to be a long distance Grammie. I had one set of grandparents that lived in CA...and one set that lived within 10 miles my entire life. I know which ones I was closer too. I don't want my grandbabies to wonder who that stranger is that comes in once a year to visit.
I hope you get to see your little ones real soon.
Gee, I haven't updated in a really long time. I have been driving a combine night and day!! LOL But, I sure do love it. I hadn't even been near a comptuer in a couple of days until I came to work at the hospital tonite.
As for what has been happening with us. Darcy and I took Kaelie to the Shrine Circus. My entire family are Shriners...so this is something we try to do every year. I think I may have missed 4 or 5 circuses my entire life. I remember one year as a child I had measles, so couldn't go. I was terribly upset.
When we took Kaelie to see the circus, we stopped at BK to have some supper...and there was my grandson, Kaden...with his other ***** Grandmother. She was taking him to the circus. Now, remember, I haven't actually gotten to see him in over a year. He is 5. He saw me come in the door and was soooooo excited. He wanted to see Kaelie, so I went and got her and brought her over. She doesn't remember him...she was too little the last time she saw him. He told me that we should go to the circus...and I told him that we were. He sat just down the row from us, so we got to visit a couple of times...whether she liked it or not. It was great to see him.
Kaelie LOVED the circus. She thought the dancers were just great. And the aerial show was her favorite. We had so much fun. And she was so good. She didn't like the snow cones though...but loved the cotton candy. She and her Mom were having cotton candy eating contests!! She even still has her toy!
Otherwise, we've just been working. I got done combining yesterday and Bruce will be done tomorrow. I was wanting to do something special for our anniversary, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I'll be patient.
Today was kind of funny. I thought I was going to sleep in because I had to work tonite all night. I needed to get up to take Bruce to the truck, but thought I would go right back to bed. I've been working late and getting up early, so thought this would be a good excuse to be lazy. As I was dropping my husband off at his truck, he discovered he forgot his phone, so I told him I would go back and get it. When I got back with it...he asked me if I wanted to ride with him. I guess he is missing me after all!! Of course, I said, yes. So I didn't get to bed until almost 3PM. I woke just before 6...got ready to go to work...and was here by 7PM. And that's with a 30 minute drive.
It's been unbearable hot here in central South Dakota. 106 on Monday, 102 yesterday, and 109 today. Our average temp this time of year is supposed to be 89-90. So, it's just tooo hot. We're supposed to have a cooler day today...and hopefully some rain. Our crops need a drink really bad if we want to have a fall harvest!!
Well, I'm hoping to catch up on some of your journals. Sorry I haven't been around. It will get better the first of next week.

Oh goodness sorry about the heat!!
BUT it sounds like you had a great time at the circus! There was a circus in town here for the last two nights and we thought about going, then just didn't, we kinda forgot lol. Anyways, It's always fun to bump into people at the strangest places!
Today is a billion times better. Yesterday by now it was over 100...now it's about 75. What a day a difference makes.
The best part of bumping into them was she would do anything to keep the poor little sweetie away from us...and he still remembers and wants to see us. Someday she will get hers!!

THat is so sad that she is doing that, keeping him away from you and kaelie. But I glad however that the two of you had fun at the circus, they are great fun aren't they? I am sure she had a wonderful time.
Sorry about the heat! I thought 90's here was bad, but I can only imagine driving huge machines in the heat would be even worse. Glad you are well though, began to wonder what happened to you. :)
Happy Two Months BTW :)
Yeah, she is so rude. She is keeping him from our entire side of the family. She doesn't even let his biological granddad see him (and he has a court order that says he gets visitation...they just ignore it and no one will do anything about it!!!)
We had sooo much fun. Kaelie was just enthralled with the entire thing! I'm so glad we braved the heat and went. It wasn't even that hot there. It was great!
Actually, when you're driving a combine, you are in an air conditioned cab. And the one time the air conditioner quit...so did we. Until they got it fixed. It's really a good place to be when it's hot. I wouldn't want to be the truck drivers though. (And that is what Bruce is doing, poor thing!!) If they have an air conditioned truck, they still have to stand outside while it is emptying into the bin. Yesterday was horrible for the poor guy. It topped out at 109.
Thanks for missing me. I appreciate it. I've missed you guys too!
Just as I was leaving work this morning, my husband called me and told me happy anniversary. He was wanting the day off...but it doesn't look like it's going to rain...and they aren't quite done yet...so no day off for him. Hopefully he'll be home before 11PM though. Then we can do something fun. If not, I guess we'll wait until our 3 month anniversary!

take that other grandma. lol.
Exactly my feelings!!! When I first walked into BK, he saw me first. She had her back to me, so she didn't see me. His eyes lit up and he got all excited and just yelled "GRAMMIE GERRI!!!!" He wanted to be sure we were going to the circus. It really did my heart good to know he remembers me.

that is such a wonderful feeling. my granbaby while here last week took to calling me "momma nana" no matter how many times i told him "honey i am not your momma". but it was to cute to say much. lol
Oh, how neat!! How are they feeling?? Better, I hope. How are you feeling?? Did you ever get your test results?
We had a nice quiet weekend. To start out with, on Thursday, we went out for supper for our anniversary. We kind of got some grief about celebrating our 2 month anniversary...but they mean well. They are actually funny...they were saying things like..well the pool is off now. We bet on only 1 month or 1 1/2 months!! We just ignored them.
On Friday, Bruce worked most of the day, then we had Kaelie in the evening. We were going to take her to the river or to the races...but Bruce was tired when he got home, so she just entertained us around here all evening. She picked out a movie "Flushed Away", so we watched that. She was trying to tell Bruce what it was about before we watched it and we just laughed so hard. She is so funny.
She found a curtain rod in our camper and was using it to "dance" all evening. She was using it like a baton. She even had Bruce up dancing with her. I haven't laughed that hard in a really, really long time. I should have taken pictures!
On Saturday, we slept in, then went to lunch with Darcy and Kaelie. Then we both got our hair cut. Bruce needed it really bad!! She cut a LOT off of him. It will be a lot cooler. She also gave us a wedding present. She gave us a gift certificate for each to have a hair cut and some shampoo and conditioner. What a sweetie!!
After our hair cuts, we went for a drive out by the river, then went and found our friends that are still combining. We gave each of them a beer...as they were done for the day. Then we came home and grilled steaks and ate fresh cucumbers that one of the guys gave us.
Then, yesterday, I did some more sleeping and Bruce watched the race. I watched parts of it...but sleeping was definately the added plus.
We went out to the restaraunt that I work at in the evening and found out that our owner had just died. It was expected and a blessing for him...but will be quite hard on his wife. They have been married 56 years. I am good friends with their daughter (she is a nurse) and Bruce is good friends with their son-in-law. He was absolutely the best boss. He will be sorely missed!!
This morning I've made lunch for Bruce, watered our new trees, and hung a picture in the dining room. So far, so good.

aww you guys are just a picture perfect married couple I love hearing about your days, sounds like so much fun!!!!
That was nice of your hairdresser, nice to get presents after your wedding. :) Hey we celebrated our week anniversary, its a big deal! hahahaha
Glad you guys are doing well!!!
This weekend we went camping. My parents have a very nice camper that they take to TX every winter. It usually sits idle in the summer time, so once or twice in the summer we take it camping. It's always so relaxing and nice. I wish we would do it more often.
It also rained on Friday. At our house we had 3 1/2 inches. Out at the farm where Bruce works they had 2 3/4. All the farmers are smiling now!! It always rains when I go camping...another reason I should do it more often!
On Saturday was an after harvest party for the farmer I combined for. It was a big picnic and then they had their boats and such on the river. It was a blast. One of the teens got his ankle wrapped in a rope while he was tubing...and could have easily got it broken. But, he turned out to be just fine.
On Sunday, I worked most of the day...but it was nice to hang out with my husband in the evening. He had supper all cooked for me when I got off work, so that was sweet.
Yesterday, I worked in the morning, but was done by 10AM. We packed up the camper and brought it home. Then I cleaned it out, did the laundry and took it back over to Mom and Dad's. We need to do it again really soon. Dad's pickup sure uses a LOT of gas though. It's no wonder they use the Tahoo to pull it to TX. I was surprised.
Now, I'm on vacation for a week. I usually take this week off because our county fair is this weekend. I'm going to be doing some baking this week. I started with bread today!

Sure enough. I won't promise how hard it will be by the time you get it, though!! It's rising right this minute. Soon I'll be baking it.
I got some zuchinni the other day and am looking for a recipe to make a cake for Bruce. Then tomorrow, I'm going to make some cookies for the fair with Kaelie...and hopefully some homemade dinner rolls. We'll see how the day goes!!

I have decided to make a cake for Nick you have inspiried me!! Nick thanks you!
Tell him he is welcome. I actually made zucchinni bread for Bruce. He is sooo impressed. The yeast bread I made didn't turn out good enough for the fair, so he gets that too. He loves fair week. He knows he's going to get a lot of samples!!

hehehe lucky man. I always make fried dough during fair week and those sausages with peppers and onions. That way we save money by not buying food at the fair. haha its a great time.
He sure thinks he's a lucky man!!
Now I have to run to Pierre. All the yeast we have in this town is bad. It won't rise. So I'm going to have to go get some!! Darn.

oh dear, well enjoy your little outing. :)
The fair has been a lot of fun. On Friday, I helped get things entered and judged. I got blues on my quilt and oatmeal cookies, and reds on my photos. I've never entered photos before, so that was a pretty good place to start.
Yesterday, Bruce and I went to Pierre to order our wedding photos, but the person that is supposed to help us with that, was out all day. So, instead, we went and did some shopping.
Then, I worked at the Fireside. I had a BLAST!! I worked with the class reunion...they were so much fun. 5 out of the class were my cousins that live away, so I got to visit with the some. Then we had a dance, so I ran drinks until midnight. That was a lot of fun too. I get to see lots of people that only come once a year!! LOL
The only down side was the ex was there with his slutty little girlfriend. She was sooooooo drunk and obnoxious. I even had dreams last night that I slapped her. Probably a good thing it was a dream...the sherriff owns the place I was working. I doubt he would be impressed if I was pounding on people.
Then Bruce & I went up to the other bar and had a couple of drinks and did some dancing. We sure got to see a lot of people there!! We got home about 3AM.
We were going to do corn today, but I'm not sure that is going to happen anymore. We'll see!!

aww it sounds like you guys had a blast!!!
Sorry about seeing your ex with his girlfriend, that is so annoying what that happens. But you are the bigger person and you have the best husband, so poo on him. :)
Congratulations on winning ribbons, that is awesome!!!
That is sooo exactly right. He just got fired from his job again (he says he quit, but I know better) and I'm soooo very glad that it is HER problem...not mine!! You know, like how are you going to make the car payment, the house payment, the city bill????? All those kinds of things!!! And actually, he was fine Sat. night...it was her. OMG!! She was acting like such a slut! He would have killed me if I would have acted like that!
Anyway...on to more fun things. We froze 28 quart bags of corn yesterday. Today, I'm going to can some tomatoes and freeze some cream styled corn. And try to get all the laundry done because I go back to work tomorrow.
We got a phone call yesterday that the person that owned the farm that Bruce was raised on died yesterday. So, on Thursday, we need to go to ND for the funeral. I had to take another day off of work...Oh, darn!!:D :D I wish it was just for fun.
OK, gotta get after the work. Hope you ladies have a great day!!

oh dear, sorry about the funeral but it is nice to have another day off. :)
Yea, I sometimes wonder if some men just get those bimbos to make you jealous but it really back fires in the end. Silly men.
Oh well, you have a life and it sounds like its something he needs and wants to desperately find. Sorry you had to witness that.
Glad you have gotten some stuff done before work is back. :(
Have a fantastic day!
Thanks so much, kiddo. It amazes me how he has changed. She wears a TON of makeup all the time...he wouldn't even kiss me if I wore lipstick. She has short, spikey hair....he hated it when I would cut mine chin length. She is sluttey ALL the time...he sure wouldn't have allowed that for me. He pays no attention to his grandkids, one of which we spent $15,000 getting visitation for, the other lives 4 blocks away! They used to be sososo important to him!! He just doesn't get it. Mostly because she doesn't think she is old enough to be a grandma!!
Tues and Wed. were both crazy at work. I was so tired last night. I hate getting up at 4:30 AM...but it sure makes for a lot of hours in one day...that way I don't have to go so often!!:D :D :D
Tomorrow, we're going to Kaelie's open house for her dance. She is so excited to get to start dance class. I ordered her a little dance bag that she can keep her shoes and stuff in. I hope it comes tomorrow!!
Saturday, hopefully, we're going to go pick out our wedding pics. Bruce might have to work if he isn't done hauling wheat...but hopefully he'll get done tomorrow!!

I'm just catching up with everything! You have been busy..Congrats on all of you placings at the fair!!
Sorry to hear about the ex, but the more you ignore her the better off you are obviously she does a great job of making a fool out of herself!
We did corn, red beets, tomatoes, and peaches over the last couple of weeks. Sweet corn around here is just about done. I have enough to last me till next year!! I can't wait to make some of my baked corn!! That's my favorite...We don't do too many red beets just enough so I can make pickled eggs here and there and for me to chow down on the red beets when the cravings hit..For some reason I'm addicted to red beets and I have been since I was a child!!
I just did a ton of tomatoes with my gram..I'm doing the majority of them into sauce and using Shawn's uncles recipe to make lasagna which is shawn's favorite.
Anyhow, it sounds like you have been a busy litte bee! I hope you are able to get all of you wedding pictures here soon! Take care!!
Wow, you've been as busy as I have. Just think how wonderful all this will be this winter!!
We were going to do some more corn, but it keeps doing the rain thing (and man, I am NOT complaining) so we can't get out to get it. That's OK...we did quite a bit..it will last awhile!
Bruce loves beets. We don't have a garden, so he doesn't get them. He says the way his Mom used to can beets, they tasted just like candy. I wish I knew how to recreate that...but wouldn't know where to start. My family has always pickled beets...so that is all I know. Actually, I don't like beets.
Well, we didn't get to go get our pics. Bruce had to haul wheat. He has a Drs. appt on Friday, so hopefully, we can do them then!
He should be hauling his last load today, unless the boss sells some more over there. Both of our elevators here are full. But, he hauls it about 45 miles away from the farm (here would be about 40 miles) and they are never full. They are right on the rail line, so get rail cars almost every day. Our elevators here practically have to beg!!
Kaelie finally got her dance bag. She is so excited about all this. Two weeks from yesterday, she will actually start!!
Today, I'm taking my car to have it looked at. We are trying to decide if we are going to get a different one or put some money into mine and keep driving it. We'll see. It totally depends on what it will cost to fix a couple of things.

aww hopefully you get your pictures on Friday, I know how long it can take to wait. But it will be like you are getting married all over again. :)
That is so exciting that Kailie is going to dance, I bet she is a riot to watch dance that little cutie!!!
Good luck with your car, I always get nervous when my car needs to get serviced..$$$$ :)
Hey, I forgot to tell you guys that my boss and our friend and Bruce & I finally went out for supper. We really had a lot of fun. He's even talking about taking her out again...so we'll see.
I'm not sure if I posted this pic before or not...and I'm too lazy to look, but I just love this pic of Darcy, Kaelie, and I. We were just messing around...http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/100_0354.jpg
Then here is a pic of what I did with the rest of the sand from our sand ceremony. On our honeymoon we stopped at a winery and bought a bottle of excellent wine. After we emptied the bottle, we wanted to save it, so I used the rest of the sand, as well as the sand I had experimented with, to fill it.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/100_0393.jpg
And, lastly, here is a pic of Jeremy and Kaiti with my new niece, Tayah. I was very impressed that he would even hold her. She only weighed 5 lbs...so is very tiny.

great idea with the leftover sand. beautiful baby. she is adorable.
Thanks ladies. I think the little ones are just too fun.
The niece that has the tiny, tiny baby is my sisters girl. My sister committed suicide almost 10 years ago...so I get to Grammie to this one too. That will be even more fun.
I got my car fixed yesterday. I still don't know what it cost because I was in a hurry to get back to town, so I could work. I don't think it will be bad though. He just replaced a belt and fixed my door. So that shouldn't be too bad. Bruce was impressed.
Today, I'm working. We've actually been pretty busy trying to catch up on some things that get left when we're busy with patients. We didn't have anyone on therapy until about an hour ago.
I haven't updated in quite awhile. I got the bill for my car and it was less than $150.00. I was so impressed. That helps a lot!
We took Kaelie and Darcy to the SD State Fair on Sunday. We had so much fun. I'll post some pics when I get home (I'm at work). It was a blast.
I'm so happy it rained yesterday. I've been trying to get Bruce to do a sleep study for his apnea and he was scheduled for last night. He was thinking he was going to be too busy with all the things he needs to do in the field right now...but The Good Lord was looking out for me...it rained. So he had no excuses!! LOL He is sleeping with his mask as I type. He told me when I woke him to put his mask on..."if you'd leave me alone, I might get some sleep!!!" I had to giggle.
A couple of weeks ago, I got an offer from Snapfish.com to do an album. I decided to go ahead and do it. It came yesterday and it is beautiful. I'm so impressed...especially because it was almost free. I only paid for the s & H. What a deal.
I don't know of anything else happening. It's almost time for some more harvest. I've already had 3 people wanting me to drive combine. I told them there might be a bidding war for my time. Whoever gives me the best price...that's who I'll drive for!!
NicksBride
09-07-2007, 06:43 AM
Wow sounds like you have been busy!!
Snapfish is great isn't? I have gotten an album from them as well and love it!
Thats right, make those people bid for your time, its precious. :)
Here are the pics of Kaelie at the fair. We had so much fun watching her. She didn't complain about a thing all day. She was so tired when we left that as soon as she hit her car seat, she was sound asleep!! LOL

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/summer%202007/summer92007.jpg
And here she is in the WRONG car!! The guy that was running the ride was trying to get her in the car and Bruce was telling her, NO, you can't ride in THAT car!! She was so confused and the guy was so rude. He just kind of threw her in there...and gave us dirty looks. LOL
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/summer%202007/summer82007.jpg
And as long as I'm posting some pics...here are a couple of pics of Kaelie's first day of dance.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/summer%202007/100_0406.jpg
Here she is so tired. She missed her nap 3 days out of 4. It's hard to be a big girl!!
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/summer%202007/100_0408.jpg
And now I have to show you my husband's creativity. He found some old boards out at a friends farm and made these frames. I was so impressed with how they turned out. I had the prints from "Duck's Unlimited" banquets that I have gone too.

And, lastly, we went fishing with some friends last weekend. The fish were biting like crazy. There were sometimes that all 4 of us had fish on our hooks. Here is a pic of Bruce with his tiny catch!!
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/summer%202007/summer2007-1.jpg

Bruce Shaved his face!!! He looks so young!!!!! Look at his tiny fish. hehehe
He did such a good job with the frames, I love that rugged look!!
Oh, Yeah!! I forgot that part. One day he tried to get Kaelie to give him a good-bye kiss and she wouldn't do it because of his mustache. She told him it had germs!! The next time he shaved, he decided to shave it off so she would give him kisses. I think it's too funny. She loves it. Now she gives him kisses right and left.

awww that is soo cute he shaved it for her. I bet she just loves it.. He just lookss ooooo much younger haha.
He does look a lot younger. He has such a baby face...and Kaelie and I both love kissing it!! LOL
Wow...it has been a really long time since I updated this! Yikes...shame on me.
Our newest thing is Kaelie turned 4 today. Here are a couple of pics from her birthday party yesterday.

This one is of the family...all but Darcy's Dad and his family. They had left so that his wife could watch "Desparate Housewives". Kaelie had 2 Great Grma's, a Great Grpa, 2 Grandma's and 2 Grandpa's at her party. She is so loved!!
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/kaelie%20bday%202007/100_0447.jpg
Otherwise, we've just been doing the harvest, planting wheat thing that farmers do. We went hunting on Saturday...slept late yesterday...and just had a lazy day. I've been getting up at 4:30AM each morning last week and Bruce hasn't been getting home for supper until almost 11PM. So we needed a lazy day.
This afternoon, I was uploading these pics and was sitting in the chair at our computer, talking to Bruce on the phone. I leaned back waiting for the pictures and the chair broke. I scream as I hit the floor, then can't do anything but cry. Bruce was having a heart attack. I hurt my elbow...I can't barely bend it. I landed mostly on my elbow and left side. I didn't know that the chair would do that.
hummingbird521
10-02-2007, 08:25 AM
sorry to hear about your chair. hope you are feeling better. i bet that scared the bejesus out of bruce. lol. the pics are really good. love the picture frames. he done a great job. now there is him a winter project to make extra money. lol.
It did really scare him. He was out in the field and he lost signal before he could figure out what had happened. He called me back just freaking out. We figured out that I was going to live (but boy am I sore!!!)
I think his frames are really neat, too. Jeremy and Kaiti were home this weekend. Kaiti just loved the frames. She noticed them right away..told him he should make some for her to take back to Denver with her.

oh dear I am so sorry about the chair, that is always scary when a chair breaks.. I hope you are feeling better, I am glad you didn't get seriously hurt. :notsure:
Kaelie looks like she was having a GREAT time, she is just sooo cute. Bruce should totally try to sell his frames, they are fantastic. NIck loves them. :)
She did have a lot of fun. She is still getting presents. We have to giggle. Everyone gives her presents. She knows way too many people for being such a little girl. At the homecoming parade, there were people on almost every float that was waving at her.
I told Bruce that you liked his frames. He thought that was pretty cool. He's gotten a lot of compliments on them. Such a handy guy I have!!!
My elbow is feeling better. It only bothers if I put pressure on it or try to go tooo straight with my arm. As I was coloring my hair yesterday, I discovered a sore spot on the back of my head. I must have bumped it too. Such a clutz I am!!
Darcy had a scrapbooking party this evening. We had so much fun. It's something we are going to try to do once a month. We'll see how that goes!!
NicksBride
10-05-2007, 07:47 AM
OHH SCRAPBOOKING PARTY! I am hopefully going to throw one in December, I am SUPER excited. I am so glad it went well. Is she an avid scrapbooker? Sorry, I just love hearing about other people that scrapbook. :)
Sounds like she is quite the star, I am sure everyone just loves her.
Well Bruce should be proud of his frames...He worked hard on them.
Sorry about you still being sore, I hope you are tip-top shape very soon!!! Take care of yourself klutz.. hehe just kidding.:geek:
She did have a good party. She got a lot of nice stuff. She loves to scrap..but with 2 jobs and a 4 y.o., she struggles finding time. She does some nice pages though.
My arm is feeling better. It has rather been abused this weekend though. I've had to work (extra days) because we are so busy at the hospital. There are only 14 patients on the floor, but we have 8 of them on therapy. Must be the season for pneumonia already!!
Not much else going on. It rained last night, so Bruce is quite happy. He would have been happier if he had his last 50 acres of millet in the bin...but he's happy anyway!
hummingbird521
10-08-2007, 02:44 AM
Sorry you are so tired. Life of a hospital employee and farmer's wife. lol. been there. has bruce ever thought about making frames like that to sell in the off season of farming? i bet he would do very well. just a thought for some extra income and if he is anything like my dad, he got bored in the winter unless he was hunting.
I did tell him that he should make those to sell and he thinks I'm crazy! He's like...and who would want them?? and where would we find the prints to put in them?? Such a silly man!!
I have finally gotten caught up on some sleep. I only had to work 2 days this week...and it has rained all week. So, my honey has been home at decent times (like most all day!! LOL) and I haven't had to get up early!
Tomorrow is opening day for pheasants here in SD, so we'll be having a fun weekend. Bruce's boss is gone to WY hunting elk, so Bruce is going to be the guide for the weekend. Of course, the sweet man that he is, he's invited me along. We both love to hunt, so we should have a lot of fun.
A friend of ours has a guiding business and always has a lot of hunters thruout the fall. I do a lot of cooking and baking for them. Wonder how that is going to go with the diet I'm on??
I don't remember if I have said on here that we found out Bruce has diabetes. We've both been working on eating better and controling his sugars. We're both even losing a couple of pounds...so I'm taking it one step further and working on losing some weight!!
Oh, yeah...some more update!
We are getting a new heater/air conditioner. The furnance we have is original to the house. And like everything else they put in this house, it was the cheapest they could do at the time. We've been wasting a LOT of money on fuel...so we decided we would bite the bullet and get a new heater. We're getting a heat pump. They have it about half installed.
We're also getting a new roof. We had a hail storm earlier this summer and all our neighbors were getting new roofs, so we decided we had better have our checked. Sure enough, we're missing shingles on the west side of the house. I'm so impressed with our insurance. He was here looking at our house on a Friday and we had the check on Saturday!!
Also, Bruce is getting new tires and rims for his pickup. You would think we won the lottery or something...the way we're spending money! But, he's been putting in a lot of hours and has always wanted to fix up the pickup...so he's going to a little at a time!!
Otherwise, it's just working and playing. I like that we're doing more playing than working...not really! I should say I wish we were doing more playing than working. This week has been a good break.
I have some fun new pics to share.
The first are from hunting. We took Bella out yesterday and looked for some birds. We only flushed a couple of hens...but she was a very good girl. We were quite proud of her...and no sign of limping, so maybe her injury is healed!

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/fall%202007/100_0450.jpg
And, finally, here are some pics of carving pumpkins last night. We had a LOT of fun doing this. Kaelie is at such a good age to enjoy doing all these things...and even "helping" some!!

Hi Ger,
What wonderful family pictures. As well as what fun you all looked like you were having doing them. Just adorable together. Love the pics of your dog. Background is so pretty.
Thanks. We did have a really good time. Bruce really, really likes that pic of Bella against the sky. I'll have to send it to Jerm to see what he thinks!

ohh I love the pictures. Bella is just the cutest dog. I love the face and concentration and of course Kaelie is just a doll face. I just love her. haha it looks like you guys had a great time. NICE pumpkins. :)
Bella is such a hunter!! She wants to go and go and go! But, she is also very out of shape because of her injury earlier this spring. She had to "rest" for several weeks, so we didn't get much training in. She seems to be doing fine now though!!
And thanks for the sweet words about the pumpkins. I'm going to take a pic of the one Kaelie decorated and show ya!!
Wow, I haven't updated in a really, really long time.
Over Thanksgiving we went to ND to visit Bruce's family. While we were gone, Bella got sick. It was a really bad mess for Darcy to clean up. Then after we got home, she was acting weird. One day she tore up my closet..then next she even took clothes off the hangers to make a nest. Our vet thinks she was having a psuedo pregnancy. I even called Jer and asked him if they make doggy psychiatrists?? I was thinking she needed one!!
This last weekend we got some more snow. Kaelie is all kinds of excited. She always takes twice as long to get her snow clothes on as she actually plays...but she has fun.
We went to our Capital building on Saturday and saw all the trees. Every year, people from across our state decorates trees for Christmas. They are beautiful. Here is a link if anyone wants to look. http://www.state.sd.us/governor/trees2007/trees.aspx
Here is a pic of our tree from Onida. We are having a 125th celebration next summer, so we decorated a tree to commemorate it.
http://www.state.sd.us/governor/trees2007/photos/65.jpg
I'm working nights tonite, then have to have a CT scan in the morning. I hope I can stay awake. LOL!
We are headed to Sioux Falls next week. My nephew is graduating college on the 15th. Bruce has a Drs appt. on the 13th...so we'll just stay with my brother thru the weekend. I'm thinking it's pretty cool. We'll get to eat at some neat places for my birthday!
It's been awhile since I've updated. We did go to Sioux Falls last weekend and stayed with my brother and his family. They are so very much fun. We ate at some really cool places...and everywhere we went my family would tell people it was my birthday. We got some excellent desserts!!
We went to my nephews college graduation. It was actually quite entertaining. There were 470 graduates, but it only took 2 hours. The speaker was very funny and had an excellent message.
We are almost ready for Christmas. I just have a couple of gift certs to get and a few packages to get wrapped. We are having Christmas Eve and Christmas Supper at our house.
On Christmas Eve we are going to church, then coming to our house and eating chili and potato soup...then decorating gingerbread houses!! That will be so much fun.
For Christmas Supper, we are going to have Prime Rib and all the fixings (I hope!!LOL) My niece has to work, and my children are going to their Dad's for dinner, so we are having supper.

Good to hear from you! Sounds like you have a great holiday! Just a time to relax and enjoy family.
How is Bella doing?
She is doing better...actually back to her crazy self. The vet and the friend that is "our vet" both think she had a pseudo pregnancy. It was pretty scarey for awhile...but she is back to being her wild and crazy self...just as we love her!! Jer is going to take her back with him to Denver. I'm going to miss her alot!!
Well, I haven't posted in my journal for quite awhile. Things have been quite busy. We had a very fun Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Mom & Dad, my niece Tif and her daughter Tayah, my son, Jer and his girlfriend, Kaiti, and of course Darcy and Kaelie came over after church and we had chili and opened presents. Then Darcy, Jer, Kaiti, Bruce, and Kaelie made gingerbread houses.

AHHH...Gingerbread houses...Looks like fun and well delicious too!!! Glad to hear you had a great holiday! Happy new years!
Then on Christmas Day, Bruce & I spent a quiet day together. In the evening, all of those same people, plus my cousin Monette and her family Tom, Bailey, and Casey and her Mom, Monita came for supper. We had prime rib, mashed potatoes, and corn, as well as munchies and stuff that others brought. We had a very good time visiting and eating!!
Jer has been home the whole week, and has spent a lot of time with us. Yesterday, when it was time for them to leave, we could tell they didn't want to go. Kaiti said that she wished they were closer. I think they're missing their families. 2 more years and she'll be done with school. Then we'll see.
I'm working today and tomorrow. I think we're going to have some friends over tonite and play cards, etc. That way I can go to bed earlier (they all understand my work schdule) and be able to be at work at 6AM!!

aww sounds like you had a really nice holiday! What a great ginger bread house!!!!!
Thanks...we did have a fantastic holiday! Our New's Year was a lot quieter. We had some friends over for supper...but everyone had left by 10PM. They all knew I had to be at work by 6AM. lol
The kids had a blast with the gingerbread houses. They are sooo competitive. Kaiti (Jer's gf) had never done it before...so that made it even more fun!!
Yikes...lllllooooonnnngggg time since I updated this journal. Well, let's see, where to start.
I guess the biggest thing in our lives right now is my blood pressure. For some reason, we can't seem to get it under control. I'm on 4 meds...besides a bunch of vitamins...and it still isn't good. I'm now trying the chiropractor (at my med Drs. suggestion) and see if that will help. I'm back to having bad headaches...this one is running on 4 days. We've done tons of tests...all of which come back normal..which is good...but at least if one of them was off..we could figure out how to fix it!
Otherwise, we've just been working and hanging out with Kalz. She is so much fun. She stayed overnight with us last night. Her Dad was supposed to come from OK for a visit and chose not too...so to make up, she came to hang out with Grandma and Grandpa. We didn't get much sleep...but we sure had a good time.
Valentine's day was nice. I got a beautiful dozen roses. They are amazing!! I got Bruce a tackle box (romantic, aren't I?) that he just loves. I also made him his favorite meal, so he was quite impressed with that!! I even made him a double layer chocolate cake with cream cheese, strawberry filling. One day he told me that he had never had a double layer cake...so I thought it would be a fun surprise for him.
Well, that's about it in our lives. I'll try to keep up better!!
Thanks for keeping us up to date with your goings on!
I hope that your blood pressure gets adjusted. That can be such a hard thing to get in check. Headaches can have such a damper on life. It can make life so hard to live. Let those kiddos keep you as happy and young as possible!
Sounds like you had a superb Valentine's Day. Seems like it was perfect for you too.
I'm actually about tired of the bp thing. It doesn't seem to matter how many meds I take...or how much exercise I do...or how much weight I lose...it isn't budging!! Woooohhhooooo for the 10 lbs lost though!
We did have a good valentines. I read that your's was pretty special too. I'm glad. You deserve it!!
Thanks for checking in on me!

Sounds like you had a wonderful Valentine's Day Ger. Roses so sweet. I love the tackle box idea though. To men that is romantic. LOL.
I feel for you on the bp problems. The same thing happened to me a few months ago. I ended up in the ER one entire day. It took forever to find a combination of two different meds for me to take that worked. They ended up putting me on one I was already taking and doubling my dosage and adding a fluid pill to it once a day. That combination done the trick. My bp is better than it's ever been. I feel better than I have in years now. I sincerely hope they do find the right one(s) for you. Yippee on the weight loss.
They can't seem to find the right meds (or combination thereof) or the reason why, suddenly I have sky high pressures...180's/120's. We thought we had it figured out until last Saturday when I almost passed out in the ICU. For some reason, our ICU nurses don't like it when their RT tries to pass out on them. I ended up in ER...and they really don't know why it's happening.

Oh Ger that's terrible. LOL about the nursing however. I remember those days. haha. I really hope they figure it out soon. the day I went to the ER mine was 220/205 and what a headache I had.
Hugs going out to you.
I think my headache is gone for today...but I'm still so lightheaded. I stood up in church to sing...and about passed out. I'm off to take a nap...see if that will help me feel better.
Thanks so much for all the hugs and well wishes. I really do appreciate them...and any prayers you can spare for me. I think Bruce is just tired of me feeling awful! He could use some prayers too!
Many prayers out to both of you! It is so hard when you want a loved one to feel better and can't do anything to control it.
BTW - Congrats on the weight loss!
Thank you so much!! The Dr. told me that if I lost 10 lbs. I'd feel better. 10 lbs gone...now when do I get to feel better???
LOL...soon...verrrry soon.

Good for you on the weight loss! (any hints or tricks? what did you do?)
Soon :) Maybe your head just has to realize that the body it's on top of is 10 lbs lighter.

Congrats on weight loss!!!! That is fantastic! what did you do?
I've actually been doing WW's...but now Doc wants me to try working with the "Dash Diet". It's something that the Heart Assoc, etc. have worked on...and supposedly it will help my BP within 2 weeks. I sure hope so. With it, you decrease your sodium intake (which I already do) and eat more fruits and veggies (which I try to do). It works a lot like WW...so I'll see what happens.

I have heard so many people have success with WW, after having the baby I am going to do that! But that is awesome. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on the weight loss Ger. That's great. I was wondering how your bp was doing now? I still pray it gets lower for you.
It still isn't doing too well. 150's/110's today. I'm starting a new med today...actually 2 of them. Hopefully, they will help.
Yesterday, I got hit hard with a kidney stone. Not nearly as hard as the 2 times I've had to have surgery...but hard enough with having to work last night and tonite. They gave me Ultram and Tordol so that I can get through work. Right now, it's not feeling too bad, but I sure hope it will either pass on it's own...or go back up into my kidney. I just don't have time for this right now. Besides, the hospital is packed...they don't need me taking up space needing an IV!!
We went fishing this last weekend. We had a really good time. This is the first winter that I have ever been ice fishing. Soooo, Saturday, I caught my first fish. It was a 3lb Small mouth Bass. The guys were quite impressed with me. I caught 3 all together. The second one I caught was a tiny Perch..then the 3rd was a nice size Perch. I caught the first 3 fish of the day. The guys only caught 2 apiece. So they were quite proud of me!!
We leave tomorrow nite or Wednesday morning for SF to go to Bruce's lung Dr. appt. Hopefully things will turn out well. The meds they put him on when he saw this Dr. in December sure seem to help his cough.

oh nooo not a kidney stone. I hope it works itself out without to much of a pain. Good luck.
Good luck on your trip, hope Bruce can get some relief. Let us know how it goes!

Oh girl I feel for you with the kidney stone. Yikes not fun at all. I have passed several over the years and only wish them on my ex husband's. LOL.
Hope all comes out well with Bruce and as well your new meds.
Fishing is so much fun. I haven't been in years and never ice fished at all. Congrats on your catch.
Thanks, ladies!! You guys are great!!
Well, my kidney stone seems to have gone back up into my kidney. I don't think I passed it (not enough extreme pain), but it isn't bothering anymore. I am so thankful for good pain meds!!
We had a nice time in SF. Bruce had appts. with 2 Drs., both of which are very good about explaining things in normal person terms. Then he had to have a MRI of his lower back, another breathing test, and a nerve conduction study. We haven't heard any results yet...so they must all be OK. He got a couple of new meds to try and see if they help. He seems to think everything went well...except the MRI. The poor man says he'll never do another one. I told him...never say never!!:sweatdrop::sweatdrop: It's a pretty confined space.
The weather is beautiful here today, so I think I'll go for a walk with the dog. I'm sure she'll get quite muddy, but we both need the exercise! I already rode the bike...but am going to do this too!!
I hope that all of his test results turn out good. And I hope that those kidney stones leave you alone!
Did you have fun with the muddy dog? I'm sure she had fun!
Oh, yeah...she had fun. She needs more exercise than I have the energy to give her. lol So, she totally enjoys it when she can play in the mud and out in the field!!
Sounds like my dogs! Chad plays with them much better than I do...they wear me out!
Not much happening at Bruce & Ger's! We didn't even leave the house yesterday after I got home from work. The weather man has been really off on their forecasts. It was suppossed to be 40 yesterday...and lucky if it made it to 20. It even snowed yesteray morning. We were all quite surprised to get up, look out the window and see snow covering the ground.
We're really busy at work with Influenza. It's not much fun. This was my weekend off, but I went in yesterday for about 3 1/2 hours to help. I'm glad I'm working nites tonite!!
Darcy, Kaelie, and I got all dressed up on Saturday and went out for supper. Kaelie is so cute. She was DETERMINED that we were all going to wear dresses and go out for supper. I called Bruce & told him that we were dressed and going out (he was at work) and he didn't understand what I was telling him. He showed up...all grundgy and dirty. He had a good giggle out of that. My cousin was our waitress...and Kaelie was showing her new shoes to Bailey, then Darcy showed Bailey her high heels, then I showed her my shoes. Bailey said...you're wearing pretty hip shoes for a Grandma!! We got a good giggle out of that!
I guess that's all I know. We're hoping to get to Bismark to celebrate Shelisha and Bruce's birthday this weekend. We'll see what happens.

aww I bet you all looked great going out to dinner! What a wonderful idea. :)
Good for you for getting out and walking, i see it is muddy and am like ehhh. LOL
Wow, it's been a really long time since I updated. We've been really busy, it seems...hanging out together...knowing that once it dries up enough, Bruce will be working REALLY long days in the field.
We did go to Bismark and celebrate Bruce's birthday with his daughter and her Mom, both of which have birthdays the same week as Bruce's. We had a very good time.
Bella and I have been walking when the weather allows us. She is at the kennel right now...hopefully getting bred. I sure hope it doesn't turn out like the last time...she had a pseudo pregnancy. It was awful!!
We're still fairly busy at work with Influenza. Some of our Drs. are getting sick with it...a couple have even been hospitalized. So far, so good for our family. Hope it stays that way.
Kaelie and I have been having lots of fun. Her dance recital is next weekend. I can't wait. We were playing the other day and she saw my crinolin (from the wedding). It had gotten stepped on somewhere and is coming apart...so I didn't put it away. Anyway, she decided she wanted to wear it.
So, we put it on her. I cut some slits in the top so she could put her arms thru and she had a fun "dress". She danced and played for a really long time. We played "fairytale". She was the princess...and I was the king, the princess, the frog, the evil witch...all that stuff.
Here she is just after she put it on.

And here she is ready to take my shoes off.
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/april%202008/100_0891.jpg
I am sure she is in there somewhere! lol. How fun. I wish I could play princess instead of going back to work! lol
Looks like you had a great day!http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r107/gerrc21/april%202008/100_0891.jpg
That's adorable! Looks like ya'll had fun!
We did. We had so much fun...it was unbelievable!
Oh, how sweet! It looks like she has a lot of fun with you!
Oh, we do! She is such a blast. Today, she came over and we went for a long walk and then colored pictures in her room. On Monday, I spent the day moving furniture into and out of "her room". We've been kind of fixing it up with Mickey Mouse stuff...but it's kind of been a junk room too.
So, Monday, I got busy and moved her toy box and books in there. I moved 2 desks out of there and into the computer room and cleaned both rooms. She was SOOOO excited. She loves her room. Now I just need to get her quilt done!
It is so awesome that she officially has a room at your house. She must feel very special!
It's actually always been called her room...we just hadn't done much with it. When we had extra "stuff" that is the room it went to.
I painted the walls and put up a Mickey Mouse border. We have put 2 MM puzzles together and have both of them on the walls. We took a whole bunch of pics of Kaelie with her MM ears that Gr Grma brought her and as soon as I get them framed, I'm hanging them on the wall. I'm trying my darndest to get her a quilt made (MM of course). I did get her some sheets for the bed that are MM. So, she is enjoying it all being done now, except for her quilt.
Today is my oldest' 30th birthday. I can't believe how fast that time has gone. She is so much more responsible than I was at her age! I'm just so very proud of her.
Wow, it's been almost 2 months since I've been on here. I'm so sorry! We've been so very busy that I haven't even set down in front of the computer except at work...and even though it's spring and supposed to be slow...they have sure kept us hopping.
We had a great first anniversary. We had just got home from the youngest's graduation in KS, so just spent the day doing nothing except enjoying each other. It was a fantastically relaxing day.
It's been raining and storming so much here that Bruce is having a really hard time getting his crops in. He did get the corn in without too much trouble, but would like to be working on the sunflowers. It's nice to have all the rain though. Pretty unusual for us.
He wrecked his pickup the other day. He was pulling an auger out from the bin and it was top heavy with corn. (It had broke down...which is why he was pulling it out). It decided to come down on top of the pickup and smashed the top and went thru the windshield. Thankfully, it hit on the passenger side, so he didn't get hurt. I was very thankful that he had used the pickup instead of the tractor. The tractor doesn't have a cab...so it would have come down on his head instead of the roof!!
My son got a new job. He starts July 7th and is coming home for a visit before then. I'm so excited. He is going to be painting the Joe Nemecheck car for Nascar. And he's going to make good money! Now he can support his Mom!!
Well, that's all I can think of right now. Next time I'll fill you in on the trip to KS. It was quite interesting!!

Glad to hear that Bruce is ok and wasn't hurt in the accident!
I'm working nights tonite, so I have some time.
A couple of weeks ago, we went to KS for the youngest's graduation. She is the one that got herself into trouble...and now has got her life turned around and is doing great. Well, we've been talking for quite awhile about her finishing high school. I would tell her that there is no time like the present to get her GED...and that they only thing that was happening was that she was getting older.
Be darned if one day she called and said...Mom, I decided to try and get my GED. She went and took the pre-test and they told her that her scores were so high that she didn't need classes. Sooooo, she went to take the test and passed easily.
In KS, when you pass the GED, they schedule you to have a graduation. Her's was scheduled for May 23. Bruce and I wanted to go really badly to support her. She was so very excited that we were coming down.
Her father (my ex) was invited to ride with us. He has a Dodge p/u, so we thought if he wanted to go with us in the car and split costs, it would save us all some money. Right up until the last minute, that was the plan. I guess his gf had other ideas. She decided she was going along AND they were taking her 3 boys with them.
Tabs had told her father in no uncertain terms that she had better be nice (especially to me) or she could just stay home. That's why she wasn't planning on going. We get down there and he totally avoids us. He is spending most of his time entertaining her and the boys. Tabs was very irritated.
We had a family picnic at his uncles and he wouldn't talk to me...wouldn't even be in the same room with me. We stayed at his sister's house and he never did go and visit her. Each person in his family commented on how he was avoiding me. His first ex really got pissed because he wouldn't talk to her at all.
After we got home, Tabs told us that he told her the reason for his actions was that if he were to show an interest in visiting with his first ex or me, he would pay big time. She told him that those thoughts were rediculous...the both J (the first ex) and I have definatly moved on with our lives and that she AND he need to grow up and get over it. He told her he didn't go down there to fight and argue, so he was trying to keep her happy by doing what she wanted.
After we were home, we had a large discussion about it (she doesn't know that he still talks to me on a regular basis) and I told him that if he EVER treated me like that again in front of his family, he wouldn't like the consequences. This time I didn't embarass him in front of them, but the next time, all bets are off. He apologized and said that after they got home, he got his butt chewed anyway, so what was the point?
I am so glad that Bruce & I don't have that kind of relationship. Tabs says she uses our relationship as an example of how life should be. I was so impressed when she said that! She is such a honey!
