So, I think its a great idea to figure out what you want for your wedding dress at the store, then place the order online. This is what I am planning on doing. How long in advance do you typically need to place the order? My wedding isn't till the end of next summer, anyone know what my sense of urgency should be??
Thanks for any help!!!

I have always heard and told ppl to order their dress from stores several months out (maybe 6) to account for order time and fittings. I would probably add a little bit to that for an online order.

I would definitely order a MINIMUM of six months before the wedding. I would also book your alteration seamstess at this time, even before the dress arrives.
We get very busy from April to October, but a qualified professional can schedule your fittings and reserve your alteration time up to a year in advance.

I agree... 6 months seems a safe length of time... allows 'wiggle room' in the event there are any delays.

Do you mean 6 months prior to the wedding? Thats it?? I thought it took a dress about 4-6 months to arrive after ordering. How long do alterations typically take - can you tell I'm a bit clueless?? haha

i'd say by 7-8 months it should be ordered. most dresses take 4-6 months to come in and then you want to do alterations about 4-6 weeks before the wedding date on average.

I say order the dress as soon as you know it's the one. From reputable manufacturers the dress could take 6 months to get to you. Also not to sound to cynical (sp) but have a back up plan...(ie someone said wiggle room). Most maufacturers have right on their websites that they don't do purchases online and you have to find a liscensed dealer, so be careful! But good luck...did you find a gown yet?

No, haven't found anything just yet, but I'm going at the end of this week with my Mom to start looking. A friend of mine found her dress in the store, then ordered it online and saved about $500! Wowza - I could use that for a whole lot of other stuff!!!

I have heard great things about ordering online, you just need to make sure to order at LEAST 5-8 months in advance and typically if you find a good seamstress it can take about two weeks to alter a dress depending on what needs to be done. But I would start looking ASAP and then order soon there after! GOod luck, let us know what you find. :)
