I think you should be talking to your doctor prior to doing anything. Sometimes things Like this need to be monitored by your PCP.

when I went off I was naseous for a few days, it is your body just adjusting to your new pill. I also had some wicked headaches and cramps and stuff. It was like PMS all over again. Hopefully this pill works for you, its stinks being a women sometimes. :)

I would mention this to you doctor. Perhaps the hormone dosage may be too much for you or perhaps your body needs some time to get used to the pill. I wouldn't go off of it quite yet, just give it some time and talk to your doctor!

Oh no i meant, i have been on the pill for 4 years and am noticing some things about myself that have changed alot since taking it. So i decided to go off of it and see how i feel after a few months and use condoms. I am in between docs right now.I Hate my current one. HATE. And now i have different insurance after getting married so i have to find a new one. But my pills were out for the year so i couldn't re fill them or get to a gyno in time AND i have been wanted to stop the pills for a while so i thought now might be a good time. I have had serious headaches since taking the pill(to were i have to pull over in my car). So i know i do need to go to a doc asap.

Yea I would def. talk to your doctor about going off as well. But I have done the same and went off of them and have been using condoms. Its no fun, but I do feel better without them and we not worried if we do get pregnant so I guess it is OK. But I would head to a doctor soon. :)

I'm sorry that I misunderstood....Well, I still think you should talk to your doctor ecspecially with headaches that severe. I hope that you feel better now that you are off of them!!

ya the one time i did talk to my doc(I HATE HER SHE IS SO BAD) she was like well we could switch your pills but lets wait and see how it goes...tht was 3 years ago. Everyttime i go to the doc about a headache or tummy ache or whatever, she gives me sample allergy med. IM LIKEE HELLLLLOOO!!! Obviously its not allergies bc this med. is not working!! The docs office is this TEENY TINY building. Smaller then my house i think. DH's doc is so nice and has a really nice office. A long time ago in high school i was sorta depressed and wanted to talk to her about it,and she told me she didn't think i was depressed, but i was and still suffer from it i think.

PCP's are not Psychiatrists! I'm totally against PCP's prescribing psych meds or even diagnosing a mental Illness...I don't feel it's thier job!! I get soo angry when they say things like she said to you...She should have reffered you to a psychiatrist immediately. If you feel depressed then I think you should have gone to see someone else...Depression is a constant illness that people are going through daily. If you feel that you're going deeper into a depression...seek help please:)

ya i know! She is insane!! Oh she did give me some SAMPLE of Paxil..but said you can take it if you want but you dont' need it. So i took it for like a week, then stopped. But i mean who gives out sample depression medicine!!? When i was in HS i was just depressed about being a teenager and a bunch of family stuff that was started to affect me. And i actually cut myself a few times(my friend was depressed and cut herself, thats where i got the idea from...i was sooo stupid and immature, but we helped her and shes all better). But actually i didn't feel sad anymore after a while, that was 5 years ago. There are just some things that happened when i was growing up in my family that i have noticed have affected me(i never thought they would) and i'd just like to talk about it with a therapist. So do you just ask you doc to recommend one? And does insurance pay for any of it?

Sometimes insurance companies won't pay for psych visits unless you have a refferal from your PCP. This isn't always the case. I would start by calling your insurance and asking about your mental health benefits. You need to find a therapist that accepts third party benefits and see if they'll accept your insurance.
You also want to make sure the therapist you've chosen to go see is connected with a psychiatrist just in case you might have a chemical imbalance and need medication. Also, you want to see how many visits your insurance will cover. I've had patients that only were allowed 12 visits per year! But some that had 30 visits per year!
So, that's where I would start :)

I agree!!! When I was having issues with "depression" (which that wasn't truely what I was suffering from) my PA told me that I needed to come back to her every month for re-eval and she asked me a list of 15 questions every time..not my idea of therapy. Technically what a PCP should do first unless it is an emergency they should do a blood test for thyroid problems and rule out and physically problems that could cause the emotional imbalance. If nothing shows up physically they should be referred to a therapist and allow the therapist to provide treatment and prescribe meds.
My PCP put me on Celexa I think for depression. When I finally went to a therapist here my problems were all anxiety issues not depression. We went a different route with the meds but only for a short period of time. With some good counseling and changing the way I thought and addressed situations I was able to get over these issues!
I think your first step would be finding a Dr. that you trust and like, both a general PCP and a GYN. Ask around, find someone that others have recommended, etc. It sounds like to me that would be your best bet to start off there. From there, discuss with your PCP that you would like to be set up with a therapist and go from there.
It doesn't make sense to me that you got a 1 week sample of Paxil. It takes 3-6 weeks just to BEGIN seeing any results and optimally takes a few months to get the full effect.
But either way, finding a Dr. you like and feel comfortable with is important!
good luck.

I was thinking the same thing...I remember being told that. As well, aren't meds like Paxil considered psychotrophic?? and if so with psychotrophic meds with some don't you have the be weened on and off of them too..Or atleast the strong ones?? Maybe I'm confusing them with steroid meds like prednisone or something..but for some reason abruptly stopping those type of meds I mentioned abruptly is not good for you.
yes you do have to be weaned off of paxil before starting something else, and it shouldn't abruptly be stopped if you were on for a long time.
any of the depression meds are serious meds and require frequent followup with either a PCP or psychiatrist. most dr's have you follow up every 3wks for awhile for a reason.
you're also 100% right about prednisone, that should never be abruptly stopped.

I told you. My doc is crazy. My parents have been going to her for forever and I DONT know why, i always say i don't like her. She gave me a few sample packs. But never said like call me when your out or anything,i didn't take them but she never said anything like "are you okay". SO now you all have completely convinced me that she is nutty!

Just be extremely careful - I've been on the pill for about 17 years - I went off the pill once for 1 month and got pregnant. Although I don't know what I would do without my daughter, I think I was in shock for the first three months...lol

Definatly sounds like you need a ne Dr. Hope you can find a good one.
When on the pill for a long time your body can become use to the extra hormone, this could be why stopping sudenly causes problems. So yeah I'd just talk to a Dr. And take alternate birth control precautions if you don't want a child.
Me, I was only on the pill for a couple of months, so when I stopped I had no problems.
Good luck!

I was never really on the pill. I tried a bunch of different kinds of the pill and none of them worked for me (I had a lot of reaction to them) but I found that the patch worked for me. When I went off of it, I never had any problems at all. But I would say if it persists to definitely call and talk with your doctor about it.

were you using other protection when you got pregnant? I've only been off of it for 4 days and the scale this morning said ive lost 2lbs. Wonder if its bc of the pill.
