I thought this might be a good question to ask...
What are you thinking you are going to get you're bridal party for a thank you gift?
I want to buy my bridesmaids necklases. I LOVE necklases and funky jewellery so i thought it would be a nice reminder for them of the great friendship we share, and of the wedding. I also thought it would be really cute to get white zip hoodies with the first letter of their name embroidered on the front left side.
We haven't figured out what we're getting the groomsmen yet. Possibly somthing for the bar, or music related. All the guys are very musical. :band:

We also did the necklace thing...unfortunately two of the three broke, so we had to get new chains but its all good now. We gave the guys all watches, it was kinda like a James Bond type thing and they all really liked their watches!

I have thought about this and I don't think we are going to give any gifts. We are buying the dresses and everything else they will need. Do you girls think I should anyway?

I think that maybe you should at least give them a "thank you" card. That is the purpose (or at least that is the impression I was under) of these gifts is to say thank you. I would just write in the card:
We cannot thank you enough for sharing and helping us with our special day! As a thank you we have purchased your dresses for you. (and anything else you would like to add.)
Love
(your names here)
I think that would be ok, but then maybe someone who knows more about etiquette might say something different. (lol...I dunno ;) )

I am having necklaces made for each of my girls using their birthstones. (Thank Heavens, no April babies, except me.)

I don't think you have to give them a gift on top of a dress if you don't want to. The card sounds very nice.
I like the watch idea. I never really know what to get guys. I think the necklase will be nice cause they will all match.
I'm buying the dress for my bridesmaid and she will be able to wear to any formal events she attends.
For the bestman I've seen sterling silver hip flasks that has 'Bestman' etched into it and we were thinking of having our names and the wedding date etched onto the back of it.

I think you are doing more than enough with paying for their attire, I know that can be costly ... but I like the thank you card idea. It would add a personal touch for them.

As far as the other question of gift ideas, I didn't have BM's when I got married ... but I have been involved in quite a few weddings in my career.
I have seen lots of necklaces and other types of jewelry (which seems to be the most common) given as BM gifts. I have also seen spa day gift certificates, perfume and such. For the guys I have seen watches, money clips and such, cigars, sunglasses, etc ...
Best wishes,
WebLady :)

I think it would be a nice touch to give them a gift that compliments their attire for the day. We gave our girls a necklace, which they wore on our wedding day. They paid for their own dresses though.

I'm putting together little boxes for my BMs. Their necklaces for the wedding are just going to be pieces of ribbon, so I thought I had to get them some other stuff. They're all getting a bottle of shimmer lotion, the older ones are getting candles, and they'll all get something small that I know they'll like. The boxes are all going to be themed for that particular girl and they're going to be keepsake boxes, so they'll have them too. I got the boxes for about ten bucks! (I have 7 BMs!)
As for the groomsmen, we're going to get them all zippo lighters (they ALL smoke--even though my FMiL doesn't know her son-in-law, our best man, does). The best man's lighter will have an eagle on it, to make it more special; he LOVES eagles!
What are you getting your FH? I've thought about driving out to Pittsburgh and getting him a Steeler's jersey. He LOVES the Steeler's and doesn't have one. Plus, I'd get to chill out with Lacey...makes the trip all the more appealing. :)

Good idea Kelli. I like em!!
You have all inspired me I will have to think of something to give our bridal party. I love buying gifts! I still don't know if my two cousins are going to want to be in our wedding yet. I'm gonna ask them christmas eve. So as it is I only have a MOH and GM. I would love to have my cousins be my BMs. I hope they want to!

ACtually our Christmas party is Friday night! You are all welcome. I would rather hang with my Onewed girls than most of the people who are coming. :band: I love these little guys too.

I am seriously thinking about getting Mark a guitar for his wedding gift. He's not big into jewellery, he has a necklase that i bought him probaly 5 years ago that he hasn't taken off since i gave it to him. He won't wear lots of rings because he teaches guitar (plus he's already getting one :bbmrgreen: ) He doesen't ware a wristwatch for the same reason. And i don't know that he'll really use a pocket watch either.
So.... He's been talking about getting a custom made Garison guitar, or a classical. He doesen't have a classical. He's got a vintage electric, a 'jazz box' electric, an amazing accoustic, and a bass (which is technicaly mine, but i have never played before) I really want what i get him to be super special, and somthing that he will remember i gave him and tresure.
I think that will be somthing perfect. Plus really un-expected because i've said a couple times that we can't afford for him to buy another guitar either space wise or money wise.
What are you getting for your FH?

All I did for my now husband for our wedding day was:
A wedding day survival kit....which I made myself! I included things like tums, immodium, some thread and a needle, shoe laces, breath freshner, and a lot of other "gag" gifts. This idea was great because I could personalize it easily and it gave him a good laugh! Then for the sentimental part of it all, I included a letter telling him how much he meant to me and how I couldn't be happier. I told him how excited and nervous I was to walk down the aisle!
He in turn, wrote me a letter telling me mostly the same! It is the greatest gift I have ever recieved! It didn't cost ANY money, but it came from the heart and thats what is important to me! His letter made me laugh and it made me cry and it told me how much he loves me and couldn't wait to be my husband!

That sounds like the perfect gift. And a great keepsake too!

I haven't decided yet what to do for attendants or FH yet. At least I have plenty of time for that. I was thinking of Tote bags for the girls with their names on them. I"m buy the dresses for 2 of the girls. I'd like to get them something else to, but not sure what.

I thought about giving the Bridesmaids accessories, but I couldn't choose one style that everyone would like. I think I'm going to order personalized cosmetic bags from ebay. I am pretty sure FH is going to get leatherman thingies for the groomsmen. I know he loves the one he got about 10 years ago as a groomsmen.

C-Wife...that is a beautiful idea! Jason and I wrote to each other all the time when we lived apart (I lived off of his letters). It'd be great to bring that back in around the wedding to remind us of how far we've come. He's so much better with words than I am.
As for the party Lacey...if money grew on trees...I'D SO BE THERE! :)
Maybe next year ;)
PARTY ON!
