ok...I know I know its "bad" to have a cash bar but its common where I live and we are providing wine and champagne. So I wanted to put a sign on the bar to let people know its not open..I dont like cash bar...some people wont know what that means...

Have any ideas for the wording?

Are you just wanting a sign for the bar? You could offer a few select type drinks and then make up a sign with the prices. ie: Rum & Coke - $5.00, Gin & Tonic - $5.50, etc ...

I love the idea of a cash bar, even though it is not always "proper" I am not about to pay for someone's night on the town KWIM ;) But I think it is a good idea to let people know ahead of time that there will be a cash bar.

We had a cash bar, but our reception was more of a party. We put it in the invites so it was well known that you'd have to pay for your own drinks.

EDIT: Furthermore, an open bar has some liability issues some don't think about too! When the booze is free people usually drink more. More drinks mean more risk; I know I don't want to be responsible for that. To me a cash bar would be the only way to go. LOL, but I guess that is not what you asked  ;)

Thats a good idea!

Yeah we are having a big party too.. See my post about the shania twain/metallica song. lol. I really want people to have fun! I love mixed drinks so I wanted them to be available but I cant afford mixed drinks for 100+ people! Your right about the liability thing too!

I'd personaly talk to the bar owner and ask him what he'd charge for drinks, and have it posted at the bar. If he/she knows there's going to be a few 100 drinking he/she may lower the price.
Or another option I did was this: Cause we value your safety, No open bar. All drinks consumed at party must be paid for, limit of 3 drinks.

I would just have it posted at the prices at the bar. I don't think its necessary to put it in the invites or anything else.

We're having a cash bar to but only for the liquir. We're providing..coffee, sode, iced tea, beer, and wine and that's it. If someone prefers a mixed drink then unfortunately they will have to pay for it too!

Another benefit of this is some people can't mix liquir and beer. Some people just get sick, some people get nasty, and in others they just get way overboard drunk. Because a lot of our friends fall under at least one of those three catagories we decided it's safer for us and them to go this route!!
