So I have never worn make up...probably because my mom was never around to show me how...
Well..this weekend I went to a girlfriends house, and she put make up on me and I looked so much older and beautiful. So Im really considering starting to wear it! But my question is...I have acne, and I use proactive, it helps SO much, but Im afraid if I start wearing make up my acne is going to flare up again (not what I want for my wedding day)..
So does anyone know of make up that is less likely to cause acne to flare up??
Thanks in advance for all of your help! You ladies are wonderful!!:D

I LOVE Mineral Makeup (here is where I get mine - www.ckmineralmakeup.com) It is natural and won't clog pores or irritate your skin.
Whatever you use just be sure to wash it off good when you go to bed each night ;)

Do they sell this in a store so I can go test it out and find out what color I should get??

Yeah they do I use Physicans formula mineral makeup from target (about $10) It works great. Make sure you get some make up brushes. Get a consealer brush, a slant tipped blush brush. They are the best to start. Also get the loose powder it gives you more control over how much you use to cover your acne. There are ones with brushes on them dont bother because you have no real control with them. You can also get the pressed powder but I prefer the loose. You can add others when you get to eye make up. Its really easy on my skin and I think it actually helps my pimples. =) Hope this helps. Im sorry about your mom. You know who is great to help you is the make up counters at the mall. The girls will be really friendly and can help you find the right colors for your skintone.

I was gonna say I thought there were a couple of store brands out there. I like the Physicians Formula line. I think one of the other store brands has a mineral line too.

The only mineral make-up that doesn't break me out is Bare Minerals/Bare Escentuals. I am extremely prone to acne, and I also use Proactiv.
If you want to check it out from a store first, I think they sell it at Sephora. Otherwise, I'd recommend going on eBay and getting the small starter sizes which are not expensive at all - and you get to try it before you buy the big ones, which are costly - but once you try it - you'll see that it is VERY worth the price and the containers last for a loooong time.
If you want, you can PM me and I can recommend sellers on ebay to get it from and also the colors you might want to try.

Hi Allysa, this might be a really stupid question but apart from having acne what is your skin type? Oily, dry, combined etc. ?
I have found that in order to control acne you have to try to find the root of the problem and try to solve it. For example I have oily skin. I get lots of pimples. And after a while I get dark spots. I avoid harsh products (don't we all :D ). I cleanse my skin daily and use a moisturizer (Vitamin E). I don't use make-up daily except maybe lipgloss. But when I do wear makeup I clean my face thoroughly before going to bed. I read it's not good for your pores to sleep with make-up. What do you use besides Proactiv?
I scrub my face 2 times a week. (It depends on what you are using. The one I use requires 2 times a week. Avoid scrubbing to much.) Afterwards I use moisturizer. I have found the oil has reduced. The spots are getting lighter. So my advice is try out a lot of things for your skin. Try to find something that works for your skin.
I'm not saying that the kind of make-up you use is irrelevant. In fact it's very important. I'm just saying that the basis of skin care might help out as well. Skin types are also very personal, products respond differently from person to person.
Have you tried masks? I never tried it myself but I read it can help with acne. Also be on the lookout for a really good makeup remover. One that is not too harsh and does the job. I'm probably not much of a help, but I'm trying anyway.:D

Hey Allysa!
It's funny to hear of all these people with acne problems, because sometimes it feels like I'm the ONLY older than a teenager person with acne walking around. Anywho....
YES, makeup DOES horribly affect your skin. I've been going to a dermatologist for awhile now and he always told me two makeup lines to use..either :mary kay or nuetrogena(sp?). Long story short, I used those and for about the past 4 years still with relative pimples but nothing too horrid. Then all of a sudden WHAM my skin freaked out and I didn't know why. For months I tired changing face washes etc. until I decided to try Sheer Cover (available at target in a kit which includes brushes, concealor and powder...plus other stuff as well for like 25.00) My skin loves me now (knock on wood) and I really believe it is because of the mineral makeup. What is nice about Sheer Cover is that it comes with a dvd telling you how to apply it and stuff.
Hope that helps. Acne sucks!!!!!!!
Oh my god, I can totally related to this thread! I used to use Proactive, it helped in the begining, but then I was still breaking out and plus it discolored my clothes. I am 34 and break out more than when I was a teenager! I am at wits end trying to get it under control as it is embarressing. I have always used Cover girl liquid make up (washing off everynight) and just switched to True Blend by cover girl. I really don't eat alot of fried foods or anything maybe its lifes stress causing this darn things!

A big ol +1 to the mineral makeups... I love both Bare Minerals and L'Oreals Bare Naturale. Takes a bit of time to learn how to apply it right (i.e. not to heavy, and well blended), but once you do, it's wonderful, and doesn't even feel like you have any make up on.
Also, Neotrugena has a "clear skin" liquid foundation that actually has salicylic acid (a commonly used acne treatment medicine) IN it. I believe they also have concealer for spot coverup.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE RESPONSES!!!!! I have Oily/dry skin...its the weirdest thing having my face be sooo oily but at the same time sooo dry. Proactiv seems to be the only thing that helps, my face looks 200 times better than it ever has before, I use the mask as well as the daily regimen...and just be careful to not get it on my clothes :)

I use makeup from Mary Kay and it's awesome. It's a little more expensive but I've always had a problem with Covergirl, or Mabeline and breakouts. :(

Covergirl is nasty. I'm a cheapskate so I tried to use it, but it feels like paint and looks like ****. Even N.Y.C. is better (though not great) than Covergirl, and cheaper.
I had terrible acne until I started using a daily scrub. Right now I like St. Ives apricot scrub. It feels so good and takes off all the rough edges. Be sure to moisturize afterwards.
I have combination skin, but I've found that the oily parts work best with just powder. Put some on, do another part of your beauty routine for a few minutes, and then reapply a little bit. Using liquid seems to only make you produce more oil. Sticking with powder looks much more natural, takes the shine off, and doesn't look cakey if you find a good brand. I use Airspun loose powder for everyday and MaxFactor for special occasions.
