Ok anybody, any tips on posture and being able to float? Any good suggestions for what book to put on my head and practice with? I know I have terrible posture and I don't want to look all hunched over in my wedding pictures...so how can I start working on this now? Any chiropractors out there?

Ok....I can give a few tips, but Ive never donr the book on my head thing. First when you sit, sit with your back barely touching the back of the chair. You will have to work at this. Your neither slumping nor leaned up against the chair. Both feet on the floor, until your more comfortable.
Second, whenyou walk, hold your head up and your shoulders back. Its almost like your displaying your chest.
If your worried about your walk, try slowing down and making your steps a little more diliberate. You can retach yourself to walk.
I had the same issues about my posture several years ago, and this was what I was told to do and it worked.

Just start practicing. When you are aware of it, sit with your back straight and your head up. Look straight forward. As you are walking do what Cindy suggests, roll your shoulders back, extend your neck, pull your back straight, and move your chest forward. It will give you the illusion of being taller too.

Sitting on a big yoga ball is great for posture. It helps strengthen the muscles in your back and stomic. It forces you to sit up straight. My chiropractor has recommended it for my back.
Good luck!

Thanks you guys! Now all I have to do is remember to sit up straight, show off my chest, and find a great big ball! :-D You all are really helpful. Thanks!

I want to add, that strong abdominals also help with good posture. So, you might want to build up those tummy muscles. The up side to that is you will look even more fabulous in a swim suit.

If you think about where the abs are at, it makes sense, they hold up the whole front part. The back muscles hold up the back part. You are only half way there if you just work on the back.

Man I would love to look good in a swimsuit! I've been working on my abs for years and never seem to get anywhere. I'll be doing really good and then I'll get sick and not be able to do anything for awhile. I'm at the sick part right now. When I'm sick, it's work, home, bed...there isn't much else.

I've been practicing sitting up at work. One of my coworkers suggested I get a round pillow to put in the small of my back to help me remember to sit up more. I'm going to look around and see what I can find...

I agree with everyone ... you just have to be conscious of your posture. My sister is really bad about the slouchy thing. I know I don't always sit in my chair straight either

Remember when you are walking in your dress to pick it up on the sides so that you don't trip on it.

Best wishes,

Why not? I thought tripping around the reception was going to be the highlight of gracefulness! :bblol:

Yeah, you'd laugh at how many weddings I have seen where the bride (and the groom) end up stepping all over the dress all night ;)

On a slightly related note ... be sure to get a bustle in the dress if it has a train. And just so you all know, that little loop on the inside is not a "wrist bustle" LOL :bblol: I see that so much, you would think that someone would tell the bride that is not what that is for

The little loop...like the loop that's there so the train isn't hanging on the ground when the dress is on a hanger? OMG! I wouldn't even imagine to use that! That's kind of funny actually.

That was one of the things I REALLY liked about my dress (and Lacey's for that matter...hey Lacey, are you going with an inside or outside bustle?) Anyways, when the dress is bustled, you can barely tell because of the style of the skirt. I HATE the idea of a bustle (I've got a big enough :censored: as it is...I don't need any help). But this one hangs low and is REALLY beautiful. It also won't be nearly as difficult as bustling my sister in law's was. Man that dress sucked! It was a gorgeous dress, but the bustle was AWFUL....blah!

Yep, that is it ;)

Yeah, I have seen some bad bustles that make the 'back side' look bad ;) But, if you get the right dress and the right bustle for the dress, it usually looks very nice. And yes, some are a bit difficult to deal with.

Best of luck to all of you!

My SiL's wouldn't have been as difficult if the button loops were big enough for the teeny tiny buttons! Here's three bms hovering around her butt trying to squeeze teeny tiny buttons into even teenier tinier button loops...all so that the pretty design on her train would end up on her back side....I hope if mine is that difficult that my bms just throw it over my head and say to hell with it!:bbmrgreen:

Yep, I have seen that scene many time before. Once, no one could get it right so I did it. There was a picture of me under the bride's dress :bblol: I wish I could find that pic, it was so funny ;)

I keep joking that my FH could disappear under my dress and no one would be the wiser...the skirt is HUGE! I think that's part of why it bustles so well...

NOt sure what i am getting for a dress yet but one of the ones i tried on ( and fell in love with ) had a detachable train. It was velcro but you would have no idea. It looks so nice both ways.

I have seen gowns with detachable trains that look very nice.

I haven't even checked out bustle styles yet. I'll figure that out when I start my fittings in Feb/March. I know I prefer the French bustle but I will have to see how it looks on that dress.

The French bustle (sometimes called an under-bustle) can work with most any gown but works especially well in gowns with lots of detail right below the waistline in back. The train is gathered up under the skirt instead of on top of it using sewn in ribbons.

This is my favorite style bustle because it is the most secure. I have seen those little loop and snap ones fall out I don't know how many times! I use to carry safety pins to weddings with me in case I had to re-do or do a 'make shift bustle'

The French one also usually looks nicer. It can be done from the top or the bottom inside depending on the dress.

Although it looks nice, it is often a pain to deal with ;) You just have to have someone that knows how to tie the ribbons properly.

Here is a site with an article on "The Great Bustle Debate" -- http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/Bustles.htm

I wanted to find a pic showing the ribbons but I couldn't find a good one.

I've seen the dress bustled inside (French bustle) and outside (I guess that'd be a regular bustle) and I prefer the outside one, but I didn't want a bustle to begin with...so that's why I chose that one, because it doesn't look like it's bustled when it's bustled like that (due to the "puddles" in the skirt...I don't know what else to call it...lol).

*hehe* I think I know what you mean ;) Did you post a pic of your dress? I tried looking in the "dress picture" thread and I didn't see it. Just curious ;)

Lacey and I are wearing the same dress. I'm terrified my FH will see the dress and I don't want him to, so I don't keep any pics of it on my computer. But if you look at Lacey's dress...that's mine too! :bbmrgreen: We killed two birds with one stone.

You wanna hear something more creepy...she's a history teacher, I just finished my BA in history. She lives about an hour from me and is getting married in the same dress two weeks after me. We have a TON in common...it's freaky! Kind of cool too! :bbmrgreen:

Interesting how we meet people and then have so much in common ;)

I looked for Lacey's dress and the link in the post is dead ... so I just looked up the code and saw it ... the dress is very nice :D I can't wait to see pics of both you and her in the dress.
