My wedding is in June and I still don't have a reception dress. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg - I overspent my wedding dress budget as it was - and I'm clueless. Did you guys sit down in your dresses or did you have a different dress for the reception - and if so do you have any pictures? I need ideas please.

I stayed in my dress the whole night. I saw no reason to change dresses...

My tailor guy (the person who did my alterations) told me repeatedly not to sit in my dress - and trust me, I tried and it's not comfortable anyways. So if I can't sit down... well what to do?

My weddings I have seen the bride stays in the dress. You can usually sit ok if you sit with the chair under the dress; that is the best way I can think to describe it ;)
It usually looks better in pictures to keep the dress on. Like for the first dance, cake cutting and all.
LOL, one time I had to help a bride pee in her gown. It was me and her BM in there holding her dress up so she could sit on the toilet :bblol:
But I guess if you really can't sit comfortably in the dress you should change. Maybe something more like a bridesmaids dress?

I stayed in my wedding dress after the wedding. but if your dress is uncomfortable i would change (as brandi suggested) into bm dress or something of this nature. i would also make it white or ivory depending on what your wedding dress is. jmo.

I have 2 dresses. I wanted the princess look and also the sexy elegant look. I found 2 dresses that will give me both looks. I bought 1 dress at DB and the other dress was found by luck. Both dresses totaled costed my $500. $600 with alteration. I love them both.

I would suggest if you just cannot wear your dress, stay in it for dancing, cake cutting etc. Then change into perhaps a more informal white dress so that you still stand out, but it is something you are comfortable with.

Is your dress uncomfortable b/c of the way your having it bustled? Maybe look at more options to having it bustled so it is more comfy to sit in. That way you don't have to spend more on another dress>

Wow! Thank you for all the ideas and CH your dresses are gorgeous! I think I'll have to go to David's bridal at some point and check that out. I live in a weird place... they don't have dresses - even prom really, mostly you have to order your dresses.
I guess it is because of how it is bustled, but it's already done (with all the little hooks and eyes) so I don't want to go back and ask him to change it - especially since it looks so beautiful.
If all else fails I guess I'll just request a low-back chair or stool to throw my dress over. Thank you for all the replies because you guys pulled me out of my slump.

instead of purchasing a new dress to wear why not just do as you thought of and get a backless chair?

I agree with Treasia. You spent a lot of money on a dress you're only going to wear once anyways, so you might as well get as much wear out of it as possible and wear it all night if you can. I'm planning on wearing mine the whole night. I'll probably only be sitting for dinner, otherwise I'll be up socializing and being cordial to the guests so I doubt I'll have much time to sit anyways (also why I'm planning on giving my BMs flip flops and getting myself a pair for the reception...I can imagine how my feet will feel after being on them most of the day).

After all the money I spent on my dress Kevin will have to fight me to get it off!!!!!!!! The way I see it for me anyway, is that I get to do this one time and dress in this gown once. I'm gonna put it on at 12 or 1 and take it off at 2am! I knwo this isn't for everyone but for me I would have a very difficult time wearing something else at the reception.

Well I went shopping and found the perfect tea-length white satin dress - but I also saw all the beautiful wedding gowns they had and it sparked something in me - the determination to wear my dress as long as possible! So I immediately called the reception place and they said it would be no problem finding a low-back or backless chair, so now it's all up to me not to spill anything on my dress while eating. Thanks for the support guys... I know it was a pretty simple situation but when you're stressed sometimes it takes a lot of people pointing out the obvious before it *clicks* in your head.

With the bustle and all the tulle underneath the satin I can't sit right. Basically it piles underneath me and makes me tilt side to side on the chair - which is why I can't sit directly down on it.

Who knows lol. All I can say is good luck. The first time I tried to sit straight down in my dress (because I thought I knew better than the dress guy of course) I slip right off the chair.
