Well Mother's Day is May 13th, as usual I am stuck trying to figure out something to do for my mom. In the past I have taken her out to eat or something like that.
I love my mom, but we don't have the closest relationship. I always have a hard time finding a card too, because I don't have all the mushy feelings for my mom.
So any ideas on something nice I can do without getting mushy or spending too much money?

Maybe a gift certificate for a day at the spa. Or something at the salon ex. hair done, mani and or pedi or all the above. Is always nice for any age of a women.

She is not really the spa type, but she has been talking about wanting to get her hair done. Maybe I can take her to do that.
Thanks for the thought :)

I don't know if she's into sweets, but if you went to a local bakery, and had them pack up something for her that she really loves, and doesn't get often... And a lot of bakeries will probably have decorative wrapping if you were to ask.

That is a nice idea too! I even have a friend that owns a bakery.
But mom is real moody about her weight and may not like that. I will have to feel her out.
Thanks :)

A few years ago I made her a gift basket with some cookies and candies that she liked and I think it had a gift card to Walmart in it.
I don't know, I will ask her if she wants to go out to eat or something. If she doesn't then I may do something like that again.

I have the same problem. I always stand in Hallmark bawling because I WISH I could buy those cards for my mom but they just aren't true. I usually buy her one of the Shoebox cards and a DVD or something like that.

Does she have any hobbies? Maybe you could pay for a subscription to a book club, or a flower of the month thingy? If she wouldn't be offended - maybe hire a maid service to come in and clean? (Doesn't your sis, her SO and child live with them -- if so, might be nice to not have to pick up after everyone).
That's all I can think of.

My mom loves to wear comfortable things at home. So I think I'm going to send her a pajamagram. The website: http://pajamagram.com/
Also if she is into like stuffedanimals vermont teddy bear.
I like things to be sent to me so I think she might enjoy that.
I also considered taking her on a hot air baloon ride...just a thought

i would opt for a nice dinner, or gift card basket, maybe a pajama set if she is into that. if you want to pamper her send her for a manicure and facial or something. or a nice gift basket of these items for home. throw in a cd of soft music and maybe a bottle of wine.

Maybe you can help your sister with the moving, so she's out quicker. ;)
No but seriously, the other ladies have come up with some great ideas. So I don't really know what to add.
Does she collect anything or have any particular interests?
Hallmark stores are always nice to find Yankee Candles and suncatchers and other knick knack stuff.
Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Good ideas ladies. I live in Vermont and the pajamagrams and Teddy bears are really nice. :)
I am going to send my mom flowers at work and perhaps a gift certificate to her favorite stores or something..

I would definitely suggest a gift card to somewhere. Somewhere that she enjoys going to. I know, it’s tough. I hate Mother’s Day shopping.

Well I asked her if she wanted to go out to eat or something and she said she didn't want to go anywhere. So I guess I will make her up a little gift basket.

We're giving my mom a 15-20 minute DVD of family pictures. We've also set the dvd to Beatles music (her fave). We did it for Christmas and she absolutely LOVED it.
Just an idea if you have time and the access to some old pictures.

Yeah I did something like that a couple years ago for Christmas. Now Dad has the stuff to do it himself and likes making them with the grandbaby pictures.

My mom quilts a lot and spends so much money on stuff for that. I usually get her a gift certificate for a quilting place.

Every year my mom and I go to the local nursery and pick out flowers to plant in our flower boxes. I bring all my containers over to her house and we have a planting party. We both love to garden and we always have fun picking out new and interesting flowers. It's been our little tradition for as long as I can remember.
You might consider planting some nice containers for your mom, planting them yourself is much, much cheaper than buying the premade ones.

Great midns and fooles I guess... Every year I get my Mom a rose bush. Although the last 2 years they've croaked on her!!! So She's been thinkign about putting ina flowerign bush at the bottom of the yard. So I think that might be her suprsie from the 2 of us.
My Grandmother gets all her garden's done by my Aunt. She goes and buys annuals and plants them for her. That's been their deal for years.

I always get my mom a Red Sox T-Shirt. I saw one that said Yankees Go Home but could not find one in her size. She would have loved it. She is a die hard Sox fan and does nto liek the Yankees at all. I just got her a regular Sox T-Shirt, a bag of black jellybeans, her favorite. And cards form me and the kids and pictures of the kids we had done a couple of months ago. And I will call her as she is 7 hours away.
