This last weekend me and FH decided to start on some lawn work (since the person before didn't even know he had a back lawn)!!! Since our wedding falls just 3 days after 4th of July... We have decided to throw a big 4th of July BBQ party (I already know I am crazy for doing this)... inviting our friends family and wedding party. So... We have begun working on our lawn... my garden etc... But I havwe this large cement area next to the porch and the yard is really deep. So I was wanting it to look really nice and do something pretty at the back of the yard... as a focal point.
So... to help me with some ideas.... this is the place to show off your back (or front) patios and lawn!!!

is is possible to post some pics of your backyard so that we might be better able to visual this? it would help me out a lot. now are you wanting to decorate the concrete or the yard? either place would look lovely if you had a small pond with a fountain trickling water down to it. the sounds would be soothing and very relaxing when not a lot of people there. this would also be a great focal point. or as another idea you could have a trellis or gazebo type thing with flowers climbing over it and hanging down. until you actually got some flowers and this is short notice you could hang baskets of them all over it and set some planters on top with hanging flowers. underneath it you could set a bench or hang a swing.

Yes, I will try to take some pics this week. I already asked FH if we could put in a small pond... and the answer is "no!" So... there goes that... any pics of others yards??

LOL We live in an apt. so we only have a patio to work with. This past weekend, I suggested that DH clean up the patio so that I might be able to get out there and work. If I was going to be stuck painting orders all weekend, I figured it might be a good idea to do so outside.

He told me that he didn't want to spend yet another summer looking at our ugly cement patio so, he decided to spruce it up a bit. He was off early Saturday morning to the hardware store. He picked up some cedar decking, screws, etc and he made this sub floor and trellis wall for our little patio. Our little deck looks a gazillion times better than the cement pad and it smells so nice!

Our landlord came by last night & loved what Hugh had done. He told us to put in another trellis (so that we would have more privacy. He even offered to pay the bill for both pieces of trellis if we will agree to leave them there when (or if) we move.

I plan to pick up another planter box and then plant some sort of climbing/flowering plant in front of the trellis (on the ledge in back of the table).

What about planting some flowers around part of the patio? To kinda define it more. That might look nice. Just leave a decent sized area so people have a spot to walk to the back yard and not step on the flowers. Too bad about FH saying no to the pond. That woud look so cute in one of the back cornors! Also, maybe putting up a small trellis over at leave part of the patio? It would provide a little more shade over the table.

Well, I have a pond in the backyard, but we basically have it set up so there's rock in the pond and a waterfall just runs into the rock. It's a lot easier to maintain.

Here's a pic with FH and the dog in the hammock and a view of the pond.

You have a decent sized yard, so there's a lot you could do. Flowers, a fountain, some bushes along the back, maybe a fire pit.

I would plant some really nice flowers, pull the weeds from the concrete patio, and put some really nice furniture there.
You can also get some lawn deocrations to put out there. THere are many possibilities. But they do not have to be elaborate or expensive!
