On one instance I feel bad and one instance I am pissed!
Ok as you all know I bring burger to work with me. The owner absolutely loves him and thinks it is a joy to have him here. When he comes to work he stays with our maintence guy who really cant speak english that well (turkish). Very nice of him to watch burger for me but he doesnt WATCH him. He lets him wander and the people next door take him into their office. WITHOUT ASKING ME!
So now I have him on a retractable leash that is held by a chair in my office. And I am here 99% of the time. His bed and all his toys are here.
I got pissed one time because I almost ran over my own dog. I was just getting ready to pull out and he comes running in front of my car, the guy was not watching him.

Well it sounds like you have got to keep him with you. While it is nice that he offers, people in the office do not have to watch him and I would feel more comfortable watching my own dog.
It is really nice that you get to take your dog to work, I wish I could :( But just make sure you are watching your own dog not someone else.

I would be upset too! If you can't be there or find someone you can trust to keep an eye on him, I would leave him safe at home.
Can you bring a crate to keep Burger for that 1% of time where you can't be there? Both my dogs are crate trained and are crated at home when we are not home. There have been a couple of time where DH took Roxy to work with him, he brought her crate with him and she was in there when he was working and couldn't watch her.

It is your dog and if you decide to take him to work maybe you should watch him. I am sure the maintenace man cannot watch him all the time he has work to do also? When you almost ran him over why wasn't he with you? JMHO

Well when I first brought him to work I would bring the crate and leave him in my office. The guy offered to look after him and take care of him for me. I would tell him how to do this and that. I tell him to be careful he is only a puppy. I guess he doesnt figure out that concept and that if something happened to him there is no replacing him.
He is partial crate trainned and for the first 30 minutes you put him in the crate he whines, cries and digs and bites to get out then he goes to bed. But could you imagine all that whinning while your trying to work? LOL
I think this will be only until I move. I am going to keep him at home becase I am moving literally a block away from my job. I would come home during my 15 minute breaks and lunch. So it would be
Leave for work 8:30am
Break 10:30am
Lunch 12:30
Break 2:30
Home 5:30

He offered to take care of him! I had him in my office but no he WANTED!
Maybe he shouldnt offer if he didnt know how to take care of a dog?
I was going out for lunch running errands when he ran out in front of me. He was suppose to be watching him at the time.
I have no problem watching him at work and keeping him in my office but the guy insisted on watching him. I contantly had to tell him to watch the dog if he cant watch him then bring him back to me. Even after today he said he will watch him I said no thanks I will keep him in my office.

That sounds like a better idea, I would have a problem with someone bringing their dog to work with them everyday.

It is nice to have a place where you can bring your dog to work with you, but you do have to be the one responsible for him. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting anyone else look after my dog while they are at work, even if they oftered/insisted.
Maybe it is better for you to keep him at home if he is not crate trained. It would be awesome when you move and then you can come home to play with him at lunch and such :)

yeah it should only be another week I move in, in may :)
I just had to vent! Making sure I was doing the right thing by taking him to my office.

My dog goes to work with me everyday. He's a guide dog in training though. He sits under my desk on his dog bed and chews on his toys or sleeps. He has gone with me since he got here at 11.5 weeks old. IMHO, your dog should be able to handle being there and behaving before you take him, whether or not your boss allows it. I'm touchy on this subject, service dogs have problems with access because of businesses and bosses letting people bring their dogs to work that aren't ready because they trust their employees. I'm not saying anything bad, just make sure you and your dog can both handle it before taking him. He is your responsability and even if someone offers you should decline since he is your dog. You signed up for this when you got him, dog ownership, it's not easy. If you can, try taking him for the first section, before your first break, and take him on a long walk before you go. Then take him home on your break. As he learns to settle down and behave properly in your office, extend the time but keep up with the walks. Most behavioral problems in dogs have to do with lack of exercise, even in small dogs like Burger. They still have a ton of energy to burn off. Hope that helps!

If you think this guy is so dumb he cant grasp the concept of looking after a dog, why did you let him? I have to agree with all who said, he is your dog, you should look after him and I personally couldnt slag off someone who has offered to do me a favour in the first place! sorry if I offend anyone!

If you are in your office 99% of the time then why are you bringing your dog to work with you. I know you said that you put him in a crate or on a leash. But IMO this is no life for any dog or a puppy for that matter. I mean you knew you would be working a lot of hours and not able to take care of the dog. The way I think a dog should be taken care of. But you chose to be a dog owner. I think it would be in the best interest of the puppy to get rid of the puppy. So the puppy can have a better life. This is only my opinion. I don't see how a mantience man can say that he would have enough time to watch the dog either. I mean aren't they all over the building? Not just in one spot all day long.
Your puppy is crying in his crate IMO b/c of lack of exercise and affection.

When I say 99% of the time means when I am at work I am in my office for that amount of time I am here at work.
I work a regular 9-5
Our maintence guy is on one place most of the time. he just works in the showroom and watches TV all day.

Touchy subject.
I and my FH both work 9-5 as well and that is the prime reason we don't have a dog- even though we both want one. A dog needs a lot of attention and we are simply not home enough. It also wouldn't be acceptable at either of our jobs to bring an animal to work with us. In fact I don't know many places that would.
My suggestion would be to leave the dog at home. If you can't be with him 100% of the time when you are working then he shouldn't be there to begin with.
