I guess I got it at the dog park yesterday.

I was sitting here on the computer and felt something almost like something crawling in my hair, I didn't really think much of it at the time and just thought it was a itch.

So then I feel the itch again when I was just outside with the dogs again and I feel around and pull out what I though was some dry scalp or something; but it was a tick!

So now I am freaking out wondering if it bit me and I am gonna get some disease or something :petrified:

Yikes..I hate those things..It's that time of year again!!!

Was it a bigger tick or a smaller one??? It's the smaller one's that you really have to worry about they are the ones that carry lime disease. If it was just crawling around and wasn't attached or in bedded in your skin you'll be okay. Just have you dear hubby take a good look for you to make sure. Also, when you pulled it out was it's head still attached??

I think it was all still there, but didn't get a close enough look at it to be sure :bbconfused: It wasn't really small or really big, maybe like the size of a pencil eraser.

I am trying not to freak out; I think I am gonna go take a shower.

You should be ok..Don't freak out!! I have had them plenty of times being out in the woods and camping..If it was the size of a pencil eraser then its the ones commonly found in the grasses and bushes and attaches itself to just about anything. That species rarely ever carry diseases such as lyme disease. It's the tiny ticks that are the bad culprates. The reason being is that they are so tiny you don't always know you have them or they are petty well embedded by the time you find them. Hence, the whole problem with lyme disease. My parents' dog Brutis gets the larger ones very often and he's never gotten sick or anything luckily and neither have I thankfully. Make sure to take a good look at your kiddos too!

They are disgusting though and give you the heevy jeeveys!!

My mom just called last night to tell me that her dog has lyme disease. It is carried by "infected" ticks.

I guess I didn't know very much about it because apparently it's more common than one might think. I am not trying to scare you and rest assured, it's not fatal but just to be on the safe side, you might want to watch out for the symptoms -

My brother has also had it. He was bitten and then infected by taking his dogs for their walks.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the troublesome areas re: lyme disease are in the North East.

Yuck! I hate ticks, they give me the heebies. We were fixing fence over the past weekend and I found 2 on me! They were the itty bitty ones. One of them was on my back and I though it was just a little spec of mud, then I looked at it and it was crawling. Then my FMIL found one in my hair. It just gave me the creeps all night.

I took a shower and feel better. I checked the dogs too and found nothing. But they are on Frontline Plus flea and tick preventative.

I did look up some stuff about ticks and found that 'most' ticks don't cause much problems; but I did note the symptoms and what to look for.

I will definitely be wearing a hat and bug spray from now on :petrified: I hate bugs!

Oh dear!!!! That is horrible. But as long as it does not embedd in your head you should be OK. No freaking out.
Eww, I have goosebumps. Glad you feel better after a shower. As said before just have your husband check your head for dried blood or a wound of some kind where it could have attached.

That's horrible, Brandi, and scary too!! Definitely have your husband check for any blood, as Katy mentioned, and keep an eye out for symptoms, just to be aware. I hope that you'll find that it wasn't a problem, though!!

Brandi, that's just awful! If I am getting the creepy crawlies from that I can only imagine how you're feeling. Sounds like you're gonna be fine but be on the lookout all the same.

Elisabeth, sorry about your mom's dog. My grandparents dog had the same thing but they figured it out way too late, the jerks. Anyway, hopefully everything will be fine there too.

Oh yeah ... apparently he's on meds (don't ask me what kind :)) and he's going to be fine.

Sorry that you had one Branid, I hate them they are nasty. BOth my kids have had a tick at one time. I am so squimish that I had to have some oen else take care of it. The first was my son about 3 yrs ago now. He came back from his dads and they had gone to a Hot Air Balloon Festival. I put my hand on the back of his head to move him along and felt the tick at the base of his hair line in the back of his head. It had started to burry itself in. I freaked out and my boyfreind at the time had to pull it out. And my daughter about 2 years ago now had one on her behind her ear I think. I could not pull it out. I made Nicholas do it. He didnt know what to do but Itold him what he had to do becaseu I couldn't. THey are both fine and never had any issues. I so hate ticks. They just freak me out. I hope you never have to deal with one again.
