So, I had full intentions of having a somewhat informal wedding- it is an outside ceremony with the reception in a barn-like setting. But when I went dress shopping I fell totally in love with a more formal dress. My BM are wearing a tea-length brown strapless number and my FH is attempting to wiggle his way out of a tux and into Khakhi's and a tie. Now, I don't fit it!!!!! I am so upset. I should not have bought the dress- but I do so love it. And now I am stuck. So, I was thinking about not wearing a veil to make it appear less formal. Any suggestions?

i think it's fine. u should wear the dress you love. however, i would suggest that your FH wear a tux and not just khakis. the bridesmaids are fine wearing a tea length dress! you want to stand out and the dress is gorgeous!

I think your dress is more than a lovely choice!

My cousin had a halter style ball gown (very formal looking) for her simple outdoor wedding on our families farm. Everything was simple that she had planned except for her dress and by all means she's looked beautiful! You are supposed to stand out you are the bride!!!

As well, I love the tea length dresses for the BM's!!!

A bride is supposed to be formal silly. hahaha But seriously, I think that dress is gorgeous and even if your FH does wear khakis and a tie, you will still look gorgeous next to him.
A dress can be dressed up or down. If you went without a veil it may make it a little less formal, but again it really does not matter. I am sure you will look smashing and get a dress you love!!!

The dress is beautiful. Could you convince FH to compromise & wear a suit? If he doesn't already have one, it's almost as cheap to buy one as it is to rent one and then he would have it for years to come. A nice charcoal, black or any dark coloured suit would work nicely.

LOL I couldn't get FH into a tux ... not because he refuses to wear one but because our wedding was a smaller, laid back affair. He needed a new suit and since I was getting a new dress, it wasn't that hard to "convinced" him. JMHO but he looked so sharp in his black suit!

He has promised me that I will see him in a tux at least once in my lifetime. It will probably be at one of our children's weddings :)

I didn't wear a veil either but I did have a tiara.

You do so fit! It is your wedding, you are the bride...you fit in any setting! You are supposed to be the most formal one there anyway, I think it is just fine with your ball gown.

I don't see a problem with your dress at all! I think you'll look beautiful. Maybe if you were wearign a 30ft train and a 10 ft long vail we'd have an issue but your not, your dress is lovely so there ya go!
Your hubby could even wear a suit without a tie. It's amazing hwo guys can get away with wearing that sort of thing and still fit in. I yell ya Kev everyday for not having to get all the stuff that I do.
You'll look lovely! Beautiful dress choice too!

OMG, I LOVE your dress. It's so beautiful! I wouldn't wear any veil or tiara, maybe wear your hair a little more casual. I think it's going to be great!

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence! You know how it is- I keep second guessing every decision I make! I do love the dress though! My hair is past my shoulders and very straight. I think I might wear it down but wavy and pull the front back. I have bought a small tiara-like headpiece that matches the beaded design on my dress perfectly! And I think my FH should wear a tux also. He looks so cute all dressed up!

Your dress is very pretty, even if your FH does not want to wear a tux maybe he can at least wear black pants with a nice shirt and tie. There was another girl on here with almost the same issue with her FH wanting to wear Khakis IMHO you have such a beautiful dress he really should consider anything but khakis :) or jeans lol

I totally agree with this statement. At our wedding the bridesmaids are wearing customized white jerseys and black dress pants/skirt while the guys are wearing customized black jerseys with khakis. FH is wearing a black dress shirt and slacks with an electric blue vest and tie. I think you'll look lovely.

Beautiful dress! Maybe you could get your FH to wear a dark brown suit something like this. Since your BM's dresses are brown and then he could just wear a tie to match the other wedding colors. This is at Men's Warehouse for $300.00

We had talked about the brown suit idea but I didn't know where to look. We even went a couple of places- including Men's Warehouse- with no luck. I guess I will look online! Thanks for all your help!
