He is in training to be a guide dog for the blind. He is having tons of health issues right now that might prevent him from being a guide dog but that's our goal and we're trying to stay strong for him! I posted this picture because in this one he doesn't look tooooo skinny, in some others he looks borderline emaciated, and yes, I do feed him, 8 cups of food a day. Usually his age eats 3-4, his body is just not cooperating with him being happy and comfortable right now.

He will be what's lovingly called "career changed". With his health issues, about the only thing that he could be is a personal pet or a therapy dog. I have the first option to keep him as my pet or give him to a family friend. If I don't decided to keep him he would be placed with one of the many families on the waiting list for the career changed dogs.

I might aswell be running a small zoo here in Toronto lol. I have 2 dogs, there both rotties named Rammy (242lbs) and Diesel (184lbs) I have 3 cats: Kona, Hula and Tia and 2 fish named Fluffy and Ralph.

Snoop looks just like my parents' old dashound. She was a month away from being 16 before my parents had to put her to sleep. The vet said that she was very sick and wouldn't of lasted much longer. She was really sad right before she was put down, but **** I loved that dog. It was pretty much the only dog I grew up with. She was put down in March and I had had her since I was 6 years old.

Oh yeah. I'd never take an animal to a shelter knowing that if it was placed, they'd kill it.

It was hard turning them in, but I had to do it. I was miserable, half starving to death, not even living paycheck to paycheck. I decided to move and couldn't find a job (they wouldn't hire someone until I'd moved), and had no where to live. FMIL took me in, and that was my only viable option, for my own well being.

Why don't you like the humane society. I used to volunteer at the one back home, and it was a great organization. I think they provide an amazing service.

I just don't like the ones that kill them, i just signed up to volunteer at one! but they haven't gotten back to me(the no kill ones are amazing!). I think We only have one no kill here. The ones that do kill, on their websites it lists the ones that are going to be killed that week. Its sooo sad, i wish i could adopt all of them.

It also brings to mind a good tip for EarlyBird - if you don't already have one, invest in a good fence. Beagles have a wonderful way of escaping under (or through) the smallest of holes! You might want to also get used to keeping food up high and the garbage in a secure container :)

My beagles were the best pets - great with the kids, friendly, well trained and a great source of comfort and enjoyment but just know that you just have to think ahead of them at all times! LOL

She'd LOVE to cuddle with you! I'll never forget my mom's face when she came to visit. She hadn't seen Laika since she was probably 6 months old. My mom and little sister were laying on the couch, and Laika just started to climb on top of them! My mom must've thought she was going to eat them, because she started to freak out, but then Laika just plopped down on them!

Before I post pics of my kids, I'd like to comment on a few previous posts. I'm really glad to see some pets from shelters/humane societies. Also, for those that have given up their pets to humane societies, please note that no-kill does not always equate to "good," especially with cats. There are millions of cats already in the system, and adult animals are a lot harder to place, which means that animals often live there for months and even years in a lot of cases because there just aren't enough homes for them. A lot of animals actually start to lose their minds after being in shelters for so long. It can be very sad. (I'm not saying that this happened to any of the pets that were given up here, but it's something to think about. Contacting a rescue group is often the way to go.)

OK, enough preaching...sorry, I have been volunteering in animal rescue for about 5 years now, so I know how tragic it is.

Princess, soon to be 11 years old. Best guess is an Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix. She was on death row because the shelter staff said she was too old and ugly to be adopted. She's been an ambassador for rescued dogs through visiting nursing homes and daycares. She's also the mascot for her dad's football team.

Ginger is almost 6 years old and was literally saved from the gas chamber by just a few minutes. She was surrendered by her elderly owners after husband made his wife get rid of her. He abused Ginger and made her terrified of men. Knowing this, the shelter still adopted her out to a guy with all male roomies, and she bit one out of fear, when they cornered her. They took her back to the shelter to be killed. We've worked on her issues with men, and she adores her daddy and has really come out of her shell. We were told she is a Chihuahua/Poodle mix, but there may be some Yorkie in there, too.

Benjamin is proof that any kind of dog can be found in a shelter or rescue group. It just takes time. We found him on death row when he was about 6 years old (young for a Chihuahua). He's going on 11 now.

First we have Hina. She's a 9 year old (guessed age by the vet) lab/border collie mix. Her name was Gypsy at first...she followed my boss' dog home one day and never left. They couldn't keep her so we went over to meet her and it was love at first site! She's now our resident fat princess, haha. She's definitely our Alpha dog.

Next we have Zoya. She is a 4 (almost 5...she and I share a birthday) year old lab/pitt mix. My mother gave her to me for Christmas one year...she was WAY too young to be taken from her mother but a few nights after we got her, the rest of her siblings died in a house-fire so we are so happy we got her before it was time to leave momma. She has been a daddy's girl for the last 4 and a half years...she's slowly changing her ways, haha. She'll cuddle up to me in a heartbeat now!

Next we have Kelso...OMG...Kelso is our once in a lifetime dog. He is a 4 year old labrador retriever. He is so funny, cooky and just special. I don't think we'll ever have another dog like him. My dad bought him for me for my birthday and christmas...it was actually his way from keeping me from getting a pittbull... Kelso is awesome!!!

And lastly, we have Charlie. My sweet Char-Char, haha. Ok...maybe not so sweet but he's my baby. He is a 2 year old Border collie/australian shep mix. We went to Petsmart one day for fish and they were having an adoption day! We went in and looked at the fish and then we decided to walk over to the adoption area and to get our 'puppy fix'...I couldn't walk away without him. They wouldn't take my debit card so they promised to hold him for 15 minutes (there were two other couples interested in him) while I ran to find an atm...I've never been more stressed to find an atm in my life, haha. Needless to say...I walked out with a puppy instead of fish that day, hahahaha.

This is my baby Buttercup. I had to put her down May 2006. I was there since both of these cats were born. She would come to me before her eyes were even open! Just to update everyone who was concered with my Jasmine. She made it through the night. Yesterday. she couldn't walk or even stand up or hold her head up, she wasn't eating or drinking as well.
