It's amazing how things like the "chicken free" nuggets and that sort of thing taste very similar to actual meat. Even some of the mock meats that fail at tasting like meat still taste good in their own right. Seitan is my new favorite mock meat! :hungry:

I was trying to buy pickles today, but they didn't have the ones that my family has gotten since before I can remember. I never even looked at the ingredients before since it was habit to get that particular one. I was picking out a new kind to get so I decided to look at the ingredients of a garlic flavored one to see if it was actual garlic or artificial flavoring. Pickles are crazy full of sodium and I know that, but what else could be hiding in those little suckers? Vinegar, cucumbers, salt, spices, yellow 5...uh, what? Yellow 5? Yellow 5? Are you freakin kidding me?! Since when do pickles need dye? Every jar I picked up screamed "YELLOW 5!!" at me. Yeah, I got real p!ssed in the middle of the grocery store. Haha! Now I'm on a pickle boycott until I can find some with no dye. :icon_barbar:

I have been meaning to start calorie counting to get back on track, but then I realized that I know when I'm eating appropriately. I freaking have a degree in nutrition and I know what I'm supposed to do. I'm all whiny like "Why can't I lose these few pounds?", but if I just think about it I know exactly why I can't. I won't lose any weight until the pounds become secondary though. My health and vitality has to be my number one concern. I read through my entire VegNews magazine last night and got totally inspired by so many things. I read an update on how Kris Carr (Crazy Sexy Cancer) is doing and was just like "yes!! yes!!". This is my passion. Expect more from me in this coming year. I expect more from myself.

We went out of town for my bday and our one year anniversary, but I'm back at home now. I'm at the highest weight that I've been in 3 years and I'm so upset. I am maid of honor in a wedding in about 5 months so that's going to be a goal for me. I gained weight after just a few weeks on steroids and I never lost the weight; I added onto it instead. I need to lose 15-20 pounds!!

5 months to lose 15 lbs - you can do it!! Plus, keep up the biking. I know you don't need me to tell ya that it's one of the best exercises you can do LOL :)

steroids have been the reason for my gain as well
I've taken so many over the last 3 or 4 years for bronchitis and throat infections..........and I've gained about 20lbs as well
Just took another 20 days over the holidays:ooh:
Thanks girls!
Today is the third day that I have biked to work. Since I'm off tomorrow I may take the day off for my legs to rest up a little.
Grrr, steroids! I've sworn to never take them again. Hopefully if I ever come across a reason to need them I can get around it.

I may have posted about this before, but our Randall's just started carrying it again so I'm excited! I'm not super crazy about cereals in general because the ingredients are usually not all that great and it's just getting more and more expensive. However, I found some cereal from Arrowhead Mills called Organic Puffed Kamut Cereal and I am in love. The only ingredient is organic puffed whole grain kamut and it's less than $2.00. It only has 50 calories for a cup of it and 2 grams of fiber. It isn't sweet at all so I add fresh fruit to it and sometimes honey. It's sooo good...almost like unsweetened rice krispies. Try it!

Oh my gosh, we were so upset last night! I have been riding my bike to and from work and when Chad is home he will ride with me and then go for a ride or ride back home. He met up with me last night and we stopped at Randall's for some groceries. I had a funny feeling about a guy I saw when we got there. He was walking out and then when he saw us park our bikes he kinda halted and started fidgeting with a pole. It was one of those times when I should have listened to a little voice in my head, but didn't pay attention. :irked: I just know he's the one who took it. When we came out with our groceries his bike was just gone. I guess that the guy had wire cutters or something. When I saw that his bike wasn't there I just started saying "what the h3ll, OMG, Chad, look..." and he just stood there and said said, "Yeah, I see". He just sounded so broken, ya know. It was his birthday present. He loved that thing!

Ooooh I have another foodie find! We recently got Costco memberships (wahooo!!) and found some super yummy cereal for a good price. It's a relatively new Kashi cereal called Honey Sunshine. It sorta reminds me of Cap'n Crunch. I'm pretty happy with the ingredients and the nutrition is super awesome for something that tastes like I should be 6 years old and eating it while watching cartoons in my jammies on a Sunday morning. I've heard that one serving is 1 WW point, but I'm not sure if that includes the milk as well.

I remember reading in your journal way back when that you had vegetarian Italian Sausage. I've been on the lookout for them ever since. Finally found some on Sunday and they were yummy.
So glad that you liked them! I've actually been trying to develop a homemade recipe for them. If I ever get it finished and tasty enough (they've been dry) I will make sure to post it.

Keely, don't be so hard on yourself. At least you're eating healthy and that's a huge step in the right direction. As for emotional eating - we all do that so stop beating yourself up. It was 1 day.... you're doing great chica! I can only WISH that I could eat as healthy as you do!
Women are so bad about emotional eating! :snide: I used to eat a pint of ice cream or get a triple cheeseburger and jack in the box tacos when I was upset. Atleast my emotional eating isn't nearly as damaging as it used to be! Thank you for your support!! It means so much. :innocent:
You're right - women are the worst when it comes to emotional eating. As long as we don't do it often, I believe it's okay. My mind set after the wedding was "who cares if I gain weight? We only live life once and why not enjoy it to its fullest?" Well, I learned my lesson when I stood on the scale in December :urgh:
See how much your emotional eating has improved? I can hope my emotional eating is that healthy LOL!
Well, Costco is my new best friend, I must say. You can see that for breakfasts and snacks I've been eating nut & dried fruit clusters. They are sooo yummy and healthy, of course. :D It's by a company called Mrs. May's. They have many varieties, but I've been eating the Ultimate Crunch one. I admit that I'm usually not a big fan of fruit and nut mixes unless there are pieces of chocolate in it! However, this stuff rocks!
Ingredients - cashews, almonds, walnuts, dried raspberries, dried blueberries, gojiberries, pomegranate powder, acai powder, sesame seeds, natural flavors, rice malt, evaporated cane juice and sea salt.....woohoo!!
Oh, and it's gluten free!!

Dang Keely! I gotta check our Costco - however, they always have different things, I'll have to see if I'm so lucky that ours carries those :) They do sound yummy... So what holds them together as clusters??
I don't know if I mentioned it, but that yummy cereal that I posted about last week is from Costco too! I hope that you can find some of the yummy things that I've found.
I think it's the small addition of the rice malt and evaporated cane juice that holds them together. The dried fruit probably helps a little too.
Costco has fruit/nut clusters that are held together with honey/molasses. I know there are preservatives in them though - but they're SO yummy. It's a Costco everyday deal... I'll have to look for both yours and these when I go back :)

Mmmmm vegenaise! I like that better than Mayo, but believe it or not, it's more points than the olive oil mayo that I've been using :-/
We didn't have vegenaise for a long while, but I decided that I just can't live without it on my veggie burgers. I'm so bad! I'd rather use a little vegenaise than tons of ketchup though. I really should start making my own creamy spread out of tofu or something, but it just doesn't last long enough!

I was running late so I hauled booty to work this morning. It couldn't have been windier! I felt like I was just pedaling and pedaling and not going anywhere. About halfway there I just wanted to cry, but I had to get to work on time. When I got to work I was put to work right away and I didn't stop running around except to eat on my lunch break. I can't tell you how many times I went up and down the stairs hauling stuff up to backstock. I generally go up the stairs quite a bit every time I work, but I feel like I kinda got my butt kicked today! (In a good, exercise kinda way!)
I wish I had a job that required exercise, besides walking to the restroom or fax machine
office jobs are not very active:irked:

Well, and an occasional piece of spanakopita! Hey, we're trying! :innocent: I wish that we were just a little more committed though. It's a work in progress, I suppose. Hmmm I haven't been around much for a little while now. There was a lot of illness in both Chad's and my family and I was matron of honor in a good friend's wedding and I think that we all know how much time that takes! Especially when none of the rest of the bridal party or much of the family really wants to help much with showers, etc. Anyways, I think that I'll probably try to start updating here again. It really does help, a lot. And I have missed OW!

Keely, I've missed you terribly:(
Ditto!
Keely, your meals sound so yummy. I grew up vegan, so seeing stuff like 'soy jerky' and tofu and hummus and all that yummy stuff I don't get much if at all takes me back :)
Mmmmm I can go for some soy jerky.
I'm back, I'm back! (And sorry for my absence!) :D :innocent:
I got stuck in that convenience mode again for a while and wasn't cooking at home much. I made a pot of black beans so that will last for a few days, along with yummy sides. Next up are a pot of lentils. We're trying to save money!
We actually got some tofu and seitan jerky for Chad to take when he went on a canoe trip, but it arrived the day after he left! :snide: So we've just been eating it and seeing which flavors we like best. It's Primal Strips and they're yummy. So far the regular mesquite jerky is our fav, but we have several more flavors left. Yum, yum!

Awesome. I'm totally going to have to check that out! We're planning a backpacking trip so that will be a super yummy thing to have on our trip. We've tried one brand that we like, but I'm all up for trying whatever we can!
Notice, I didn't post what I ate yesterday... and it's worse than that. At least you're doing well with your portions!!

We've tried one brand that we like, but I'm all up for trying whatever we can! The other one we tried had an awesome flavor and texture, but was still quite moist.
OMG Stonewalls is SO YUMMY! I like the mild only because it has the most flavor. The others have a ton of flavor too, but the mild is more distinct. Most real health food stores have it - not like Whole Foods or Safeway, but HEALTH food stores. They're $1.99 in the stores for a tiny bag :irked: but on the site you can get a bigger bag for $4.99... I wanna say it's 8oz...??

The only other kind I've tried is Primal Strips and we were just on a vegan online shop, ran across them, and decided to give them a try. If I can't find the Stonewalls stuff around here then I will definitely order it online!

Okay, okay I'm going to start posting again. I just got through creating a meal plan for the rest of the week so let's see if I stick to it. I weighed myself at Bed, Bath, & Beyond today and I weighed more than I have in years. I was so upset, but honestly I haven't really been trying all that hard to maintain or lose weight so I'm not surprised. Sure, I always watch what I eat and try to eat healthfully, but there's a difference between that and watching my calorie intake. So hopefully I can get this in check...
