Hello Ladies

Ok, first let me ask you this question... If there was one thing you would love to change about yourself would you change it???
I have the opportunity to change mines. I have a very rear defect and I finally found a doctor that is able to help. I have to undergo surgery in 3 1/2 weeks that will leave me bed rest and only drinking liquids for 6 weeks. I will lose close to 10% of my body weight. I am only 125 so this could bring me down to 115. (Keep in mind, I am only 5'2). Here is the problem. I still haven't heard back from my insurance company to see if they would cover the surgery. I promise my mother and FH I would try to gain 5-10 lbs before the surgery, so when I loss the weight I wouldn't look crazy. My mother and sister are scared I would look like Nicole Richie after losing 10% of my body weight. :petrified: I would hate to gain the 5-10 lbs I promised my mom and FH and not have the surgery. Then on the other hand I would hate to loss 10% of my body weight 4 weeks before I get married. What to do? I call my doctor like 3 times a week and they still are waiting to hear back from my insurance company. My doctor says, this kind of surgery sometimes the insurance will wait to the last minute to say yes or no. I feel if I have the surgery, I can gain back at least 5 of the 10 lbs I lost before the wedding. Please help

I seriously think you are over thinking the weight portion of the issue. I have no idea what kind of surgery you would be having, but my health right before the wedding would be my utmost concern, not a 5 - 10 lb. weight fluctuation. Surgery is generally a pretty big deal and especially in this case, from the way it sounds. Have you thought about things like risks and complications? What if you don't even heal in time?

If you do go through with it, I would eat normally and see what happens. You will also be burning a lot less calories if you are on bed rest.

That is what I weighed pretty much my whole life until I quit smoking it will make you about a size 4. Believe me gaining 5-10 pounds on a 5'2" frame is very easy so if you want to get back to 125 you should not have a problem.

Thank you, the surgery is a big deal but I have faith in God that I will be ok. I also have complete faith in my doctor. He is a specialist and has seen many cases like means and they all have great sucess. I try not to stress to many things, especial things I have no control over. I just needed to hear someone that is close to my size say it would be easy to gain my 10 lbs back before my wedding. I will again try to call my doctor and keep you posted.

I'm not sure what you are dealing with and why you have to have this surgery before the wedding; if it is not life threatening I would wait until after. Like Melissa said, you never know what could happen, what if you are not fully recovered and you feel like cr@p on your wedding day?

But whatever you deside, I wish you all the best.

I'm not sure of your procedure, but definitely think about not doing it before the wedding, unless it is life threatening. I had surgery in December (my wedding is in July) and it was supposed to be a 6 week recovery....almost 4 months later, I am just now beginning to see the healing process- way to close of a call for me!

Thank you ladies for all your reply. I do understand it is very close to the wedding date but like my opening statement said, "If you could change one thing about yourself would you do it?" I have a bone that is 3 times the size it's suppose to be and they need to bring it down to its regular size (this is not cosmetic surgery). This is something I wanted fix since I was in the 7th grade. This admornal bone is very noticable, especially in pictures. Now this may be selffish of me but my wedding day only happens once and I want my pictures and this day to be perfect. I'm on a new insurnace plan and they may be able to cover it. I been to doctor after doctor and I finally found a specialist in December and he understands my wedding date and he assures me I will be fully recovered in 6 weeks. At this point, all I can do is pray for a full recovery.

So when do you think your surgery will be? Most insurances dont take too long to get back to you, but some do have a waiting period for a year before you can get anything major done. Good luck

So I spoke to my doctor today and they are sending the last set of x-rays and models to the insurnace. He says we are on the right path. We should know something next week. The insurnace is taking a long time because it's not a life and death surgery. They are just trying to save money. My doctor only does about a dozen or so a year. If I was younger, this wouldn't have been an insurance issue but I lived with it for so long. But at this point I found a man how loves me for me and this surgery is just a bonus... a confidence boaster. :bbmrgreen:

I am 5'1 and used to be 92lbs. (before I had my son) I now weigh in at a whopping 115 too. Trust me..It is NOT hard to gain an extra 5-10 lbs. just eat junk food LOL! seriously, like everyone else has said If the surgery isn't life threatening you may want to wait, I'm sure you don't need the added stress anyway

I hope that you are feeling well! It does concern me that you've already lost 5 pounds though, even though you are on a restricted liquid diet. Did you have a consultation with a dietitian at any point? Did you get any recommendations about liquid supplements? There are so many concerns when on a liquid diet so I hope that you got the correct advice. You'll be in my prayers!

I agree, It's a little disturbing to see a weight loss of 5 pounds already!

I had the worse pain for about 3 days. I just started drinnking on my own 2 days ago. I have been drinking Ensure, water and hot tea. I sleep a lot, I feel I have been up and about for about 2 days now. The doctor says I am doing fine. He say my weight drops the most the first week or so. But will be more steady after. I will keep everyone posted.

Hello Ladies
This is just an update. I am 3 1/2 week into recovery. So far I lost 10 pounds. I don't look to bad but I will be able to eat again in 2 more weeks. So as long as I put on at least 5 pounds, I will be happy. Thanks for everyone support and prays. :D
