nails?

ok i've never had fake nails before. i just want "tips"? i think? what do i ask for when i get a manicure before my wedding? i dont want anything too long, but i just want them to look nice without killing my real nails (i've heard acrylics do this). any help..i'm clueless hehe

acrylics do kill your original nail that's for sure. I have heard of gel nails but I don't know if they are a hard on your nails as acrylics or not.

At my nail place they use gel nails and they are really great!!! Acrylics are hardly used anymore where I am. I would call around and ask what they use. I am getting gel nails the day before the wedding. I will post pics.

I've had both. The gel ones still messed up my nails but I am still getting them done for my wedding.

Acrylics are the worst. I used to wear them and it took me a year to get my real nails healthy again! I'd go with the Gels or silk wrap, don't keep them on forever though because they will all pretty much kill your real nails.

I have had both gel and acrylics. Neither screwed up my nails really badly, but I think acrylic did cause a slight bit more damage.

I have an appointment on friday (tomorrow) which is the day before my wedding, to get gel tips put on as they look brilliant and to me it is sooo worth any small amount of damage to look gorgeous on my day :)

Me too! The thing with acrylic nails is that they have to file your nails down to make it stick. Your real nails still grow underneath the acrylic, but they are thin and brittle when you take the acrylic off. Some people still get gel or silk wraps to protect the nail after acrylics come off.

I have heard good things about gel tips and silk wraps, but have never tried them and don't know much about either. I do know that gel nails do not dissolve well, they have to be picked off. My sister had them once and decided to take them off and this is what they told her.

Now that I have my nails back in good shape I will never go back to fake nails.

It really depends on where you get them done. Gel nails tend to be better but if you go to one of those Asian places they use a "drill" and that is not good no matter which ones you use.

Silk wraps are the best actually, but again you have to have them done by a liscenced professional.

you can also get a manicure and just make your real nails looks good. I get acrylics and have for many many years.
