Once I got to work tonight, I had a really bad headache. At first I thought it was because I didn't have any caffiene, but it lasted for like 5 hours while I was at work. Then once I got off work, we went to Chris' parents and I got sick. After hiding out in the bathroom I went and laid down. I took some Advil then and now after 2 hours I feel a lot better!

It wouldn't surprise me that it's still going around! I hope you feel better! Although there are so many different types of flu out there anymore it isn't funny. Do you have a cold? Typically the flu lasts 5-7 days, if it's all over and done with you probably just had a bad headache and probably got sick from the pain. Hope you feel better soon!

it's colds that can last up to that long. a flu is usually up to three days if you have had it any longe then that you should call your doctor. i hope you have never had the flu that long, that would be terrible.

I've been feeling really sick lately... yesterday I barely made it through the day at work. Once I got to Jonathan's house I laid down and slept and felt a little better, but I was up all night as well... I dont know whats going on.

I think you misunderstood my post....The flu has similar symptoms of a cold accompanied by other symptoms..People always associate the flu with throwing up and that is most often not the case. Most often when you have the skoots and are throwing up it is called intestinal virus or it is food poisining.
Maybe this may be helpful..
Top 10 Questions About the Flu
Influenza, or flu for short, is a virus that targets the respiratory system. Find answers to the 10 most common questions about the flu.
1. What is the difference between a cold and the flu?
The flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. Because they have similar symptoms, it can be difficult to tell them apart.
Influenza or "the flu" develops when a flu virus infects your respiratory system, including your nose, throat, bronchial tubes, and possibly the lungs. A cold virus infects usually infects only your upper respiratory tract: your nose and throat. Flu symptoms are generally worse than illness caused by the common cold. What we call "stomach flu" or "intestinal flu" is really another virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. It's confusing terminology, because it really isn't the flu. It's just another type of viral infection.
2. Why are people so concerned about the flu?
Because the flu virus can infect the lungs, it can cause a serious infection like pneumonia. And that's what worries people. If the flu develops into pneumonia, it can require hospitalization and even lead to death. People with weak immune systems -- the elderly, pregnant women, infants, and people with chronic health problems -- are at highest risk.
3. Can flu shots cause the flu?
The flu shot does not contain live viruses, so it cannot "give" you the flu. However, the vaccine can trigger an immune response from your body, so you may have a few mild symptoms, like achy muscles or a low fever.
The nasal flu vaccine, FluMist, is made with weakened live virus. It's recommended only for nonpregnant, healthy people between the ages of 5 and 49 because there is a lack of safety information in other groups.
Because flu viruses differ from year to year, you need an annual flu shot to try to prevent the flu. The vaccines don't guarantee that you are 100% protected. You could catch a strain that is not included in this year's shot. Recent research also indicates that the vaccine may not be as protective for children under age 2. But flu shots are considered the best prevention available today.
While the CDC recommends that everyone get a flu shot, it’s highly recommended for:
People at high risk of flu complications, such as pneumonia
All children 6 to 23 months old
People 65 and older
People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
Adults and children 6 months and older with chronic medical conditions
Women who will be pregnant during the flu season4. What else can I do to prevent the flu?
Both flu and cold viruses are transmitted the same way - through microscopic droplets from an infected person's respiratory system. That person sneezes or coughs, and droplets are sprayed onto any nearby surface - or person. If they cough or sneeze into their hands (without a tissue), their hands then carry droplets to surfaces they touch. You touch that surface and pick up the virus. If you rub your eyes or nose, you've just infected yourself.
To protect yourself and prevent spread of cold and flu viruses:
Wash your hands frequently. Use an alcohol-based gel if you don't have access to water.
Cough and sneeze into a tissue or into your hands. Wash your hands afterward.
When you cough, turn your head away from others.
If you have a sudden sneeze and no tissue, bend your arm and sneeze into it.
Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. This prevents germs from entering your body.
Wash any shared surfaces (like phones and keyboards) frequently. Viruses can live on surfaces for several hours.
Stay away from crowds during cold and flu season.
A well-nourished immune system is better able to fight off infections. Fuel your body with natural vitamins found in foods such as dark green, red, and yellow vegetables or fruits. Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids, which fights inflammation. Yogurt helps stimulate the immune system.
Also, regular exercise - aerobics and walking - boosts the immune system. People who exercise may still catch a virus, but they often have less severe symptoms. They may recover more quickly compared with less-healthy people.

Mike had something this weekend- sore throat, stomach issues. He said the flu was going around at his office.
The headache could have caused you to get sick. I've had that happen to me if I don't have caffeine.
Either way stay well!

Ok, well my verdict is that I just got sick from eating peanut butter! We had one in the cupbord unopened for a while, and apparently it expired in '04! Chris said that someone gave it to him, I didn't even think to look at the date because it was unopened. Ugh, no wonder it had no taste!
Chris took care of me though when I was sick :soppy: .

The flu is all over here. But there seems to be two types. I had the sinus type w a terrible fever and horrible cold that lasts weeks. My son had the stomache flu w a fever and a not so bad cold. Half the people I know have had one or the other. I have never known so many people who were sick at the same time, other than patients of course.

URI's are going around the schools and daycares here bad. Last night I had my 3 yr old crawl up on my lap and he has had a runny nose for the last two days which I didn't think much of. When he crawled up I noticed his ear had yucky stuff coming out of it. I had FH grab me the flashlight and I look in it and there was white stuff (puss) in it. He hasn't complained once about his ear hurting. I have floxin octic drops so I put some in and called the on call doctor. Nothing I can do but give him the drops and hope for improvement over the next 48 hours. The on call doctor told me he has seen more kids and adults with URI's and Ear infections the last two weeks than ever! So keep an eye or in this case an ear out!!

What is a URI? I have heard of a UTI, but that is the wrong end if URI has to do w the ear.
My son used to get really really bad ear infections. He 'grew' out of them though, and hasn't had one in a few years. I have one now, but it isn't bad.

URI is an Upper Respiratory infection...
What happens is sometimes when an adult but more commonly in children fluid gets trapped in the ear canal behing the ear drum. Since the brain is still small it doesn't put a lot of weight on the ear canal to push it downwards therefore the fluid from the URI is trapped and causes the infection. Some adults who get ear infections often also have a similar problem; (not that their brain isn't big) but their ear canals are straigh and don't go down and the same situation occurs. Sometimes the fluid and pressure builds up so that it perferates the ear drum and puss and that fluid will leak out into the out ear.
Chronic ear infections are a whole other story. That is when the fluid is constantly trapped and does not drain in or outside of the ear then tubes are generally implanted surgically to promote drainage!

Oh, I know all about those. I just never heard of the term "URI" before. Thanks though, now I will know for the next time.
I questioned Nico's dr about tubes a few years back, but they are not doing them so much anymore. I had them and so did his father, but they say that they aren't as benificial as they thought in the past, and that most children grow out of the ear infections by age two or three. He was right as far as Nico was concerned.

Yeah, I was reading and article on that on WEB MD that by holding off on the tubes and waiting to a later age of 7-8 years that there is no risk of harm being done as far as loss of hearing, etc. that is better to wait to see if they out grow them.
My only concern though is that if a child or adult is on antibiotics because of chronic ear infections you can run the risk of developing resistance to the antibiotics even if taken as prescribed. That's why a doctor will not prescribe the same antiobiotic over and over again. So, if they decide they want to wait a couple of years for the child to outgrow the chronic earinfections, then my goodness they'll be on antiobiotics off an on throughout there toddler years!! Maybe in this case they would make a decsion to go with the tubes..
Wow, I guess you and I kind of hijacked this thread going from flu, to URI's, to UTI's, and then some....LOL!

I actually have "walking pnemonia" a milder form of regular pneumonia I guess... It started with a ringing in my ear a week or so ago. Then I started to get a runny nose, post nasal drip, and a slight headache. I went to my doctors when I could barely breathe and I couldn't hear out of my ear.
Turns out that I had an ear infection and the congestion is now in my lungs. (Took about 5 xrays, and asked me if I was pregnant...how cute) I feel like someone is sitting on my chest and it's just horrible. I'm home sick today, but might make it in tomorrow. Ughh

Since we are talking about Ear Infections and such, I thought I would ask about something that is very weird about my son's ear...Almost a month and a half ago now he had a BAD ear infection. We took him to the hospital, and they didn't catch it..they said he had a URI. I made the follow-up appt. w/ his dr. three days later, and they said he had a n ear infection, gave me some antibiotics for him, and we left. He slept ALOT which is normal, but once he got up from his nap I noticed a big bump behind hid ear (which is still there today) I called the dr. and they said it was the fluid draining from the ear drum, and it would be fine. He has been to the dr. 2 x's since then, but they are not all that concerned about it...has anyone ever had this happen? I'm a little scared, because I had alot of EI when I was a kid, and they almost put tubes in my ears, is this a bad sign??
Anyone else's child have them??? :bbconfused:
