Oh Becky......those are gorgeous! The light lantern looking lights hanging in the big tree (pic#2) I love that. We have trees in out front yard and I wouldnt have thought of doing something like that.
You must have been the one that posted the pics before because your 2nd post are the pics I was talking about saving already. Except there was also one of a paperbag lantern (dont know what they are really called) walkway up to a tent. i am planning on doing that leading up to my arch. I really like the centerpieces with the little lights hanging from the branch looking things, but I dont think i can pull off centerpieces that big.
Thanks a lot. you have been a wonderful help.

Ok....you were posting more as i was replying, so I didnt see the lantern pic......yes it was definitely you that posted the pics before.
i also like the danglely lights. Recreating it should be easy. And again, we should be able to get those cheap right after Christmas.

I just had another idea for you. I can't find a picture of it all together though so I will try to explain it the best I can.

Take a wasp catcher:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a12/Bnd94/22.jpg

then stuff it with clear xmas lights. I have seen this done and it was really pretty.

That does sound pretty. Im going to have to be careful though. I could see me going overboard with all of this really easy.

WOW! Gorgeous pics! The paper lanterns are luminaras. You should look around now to find some that are out for Christmas (it's supposed to lead Christ to your door-that's why they're out now). On oriental trading they had little ball paper lantern lights...you could get those and wrap something around them to get some of those other looks. Lastly, the wasp catcher thing...so you don't have cords, they have battery operated light sets. I've seen them at Target and at craft stores. BEAUTIFUL PICS! Thanks for the ideas!

CindySue

Yeah, we are going to have to get a battery pack for the lights on the arch for the ceremony.
Im thinking about making my own luminaras because the only owns I have found around here have Christams tress or snow flakes on them.

Be careful! :)

I bought halloween luminaras a few years ago and almost set my mother's entire front yard on fire!

The people a few blocks over from where my mother lives use milk jugs. Maybe the half gallons with the tops cut off with something wrapped around them would be safer. Good luck and let me know what you come up with.

Well I was thinking about making mine out of cardboard and putting some flame retardent (sp) stuff on the inside.

usahgrad
12-03-2005, 11:03 AM
Would it shine through the cardboard? Or are you going to cut out designs in it?

CindySue

Im going to cut out small designs.

You know, we all have to post pictures after our weddings just so we can all see what everyone's wedding looked like. :)

CindySue

Well of course. We are all helping each other plan so it would be great to see how everyones day turned out.

Ya it will. Fortunately, my photographer puts up everything online. So it won't be very hard for me to get pics on here quickly. I'll probably be at the scanner for hours to get the disposable pics up though. At least I'll have something.

Mine should be on a disc, so I will just have to upload them onto my photobucket account or it might be easier to upload them into my website for yall to see.

I can't wait to see all your pictures. Maybe I am just slow but I just noticed your weddings are the same day!! That's cool!! I haven't met any date twins yet  LOL!

I am so happy you guys like the pictures. If any of you want me to look for something let me know I love doing it. I always find something new that I hadn't thought of doing.

Yeah Cindy I know what you mean. I can totally see how it would be easy to go overboard.

I'm gonna see if I can find some instructions on making our own luminaries. I need to make some too. Unless I can find some cheap.

not exacty what I was thinking but I bet they would look pretty.

Tin Can Luminary

Find out how you can create beautiful luminaries by recycling a tin can!
Materials Needed:

Tin Can
Paper
Duct Tape
Nail
Hammer
Instructions:
You can use any size can for this project... Wash your can well, removing the label. Measure your can so you know how big of a design to draw. Fill your tin can with water, leaving about an inch of room from the top edge. Put the can of water into the freeze and leave until the water is frozen solid. The luminary will be made by tapping holes into the sides of the can with a hammer and nail, by freezing water in the can it helps the can to keep it's shape with the nail is pounded into it .
While your can is freezing you can plan your design. Using the measurements you took, you can draw out a design. You can also make up a design as you go.

Once the water in your can is frozen you are ready to make your luminary! If you drew out a design, tape it around the can. Use the hammer and nail to tape holes into the can and ice. Follow the lines of your design, making sure to leave space between the holes. When your design is complete remove your pattern and let the ice melt.

Make sure the can is dry. Place a candle into the can and light it! Step back and look at the wonderful design! These ton can luminaries can be used for any special occassion simply by choosing a suitable design! Make them for holidays, birthday parties, graduation, parties, and more.

Hey I just read this, instead of using candles try glow sticks. That is a good idea. It would definetly be much safer. If you get good ones they will last days. Then we could use any paper we want. I don't think the glow sticks are real expensive either. They can't cost too much more than candles and I know they would give me piece of mind just cause they won't burst into flame! :D That would be my worst nightmare!!

I wonder what it would look like if you used colored glow sticks. I think it would look cool! I don't know though it may be a little too much though? :?:

We are doing something sorta like the wasp catcher thing for our centerpieces. we are getting a big jar and putting the battery opperated lights in with poperi (i can't spell it, that scented stuff! lol) and fake leaves mixed with it. they are beautiful and they give off a nice light scent. I'm thinking of getting a pumpkin pie type scent since we are having a fall wedding. the white lights glow different colors then mixed in with the other stuff and it makes the table look different colors too. i love them!

Great ideas guys! I love the glow stick one...it will definitely keep the whole burning down the reception site thing from happening.

By the way, yup, Cindy and I are date twins. There's one other person on here that I know about on the same date but I haven't seen her on here much. Lacey and I are dress twins and her weddings a week after mine an hour east of here (probably a little more than an hour, but she doesn't live very far), so I've got twins all over the place. :)

I'll see if I can find a picture of the ones my mom has for now. I haven't even started getting the stuff for mine yet. I figured I can get the lights after christmas on sale. Unfortunatly I didn't have most of my ideas when the fall decorations went on sale, so I have to hunt a little more to find what I want online.

Our other date twin (or it would really be our triplet) was saraomalley. And your right, she hasnt been on here much lately.
Im still working on what exactly I have to do with "luminaras" I know i want them and I WILL HAVE THEM, but as far as the style, its still open for discussion.

Well our ceremony is going to be out at a public lake so my decorations have to be simple. I want the lighted arch so we will have to get a batteries pack, but the candles will be perfect for the walkway.

Hey if you come up with any ideas for the design on the luminaries let us know. I have seen a couple different styles, but don't know which one I want yet. I will post them in a separate thread.

Well I had thought about different sized hearts, or maybe little stars. Ill probably just make up a couple of different ones and see which one I like better.
