Ok, so when we were looking at a caterer, we figured renting china was just way too expensive. We came up with the idea of using plastic plates, but setting the tables beforehand, so it still looked slightly formal. I wanted light yellow plastic plates, pink napkins, and silver silverware. Well, we found the pink napkins and silver silverware (which was on sale so we now have six boxes of it in our guest bedroom) but I couldn't find light yellow plastic plates. I found golden yellow...bumble bee colored plates, but definitely not what I wanted. We talked about other alternatives, but I was really set on this. So, point to this post, I went looking online and I found this site that I thought might help others for whatever they need. It's really cheap!

www.partysecret.com

Hope it helps others.

OMG ------- Thank you, Thank you, Thank you very very much! Ive been wondering what I was going to do about this and you totally fixed my problem!!!!!!!!!! I love the Tropical Teal, that is one of our colors. The other is Opal, but its going to be extrememly hard to find that kind of stuff in a iridescent color, but the teal is perfect!

They have a lot of decorations in that irridescent white-ish color...you could use stuff like that for your opal. We're using that type of tissue paper (only clear) to wrap m&ms in for our favors. I'm not a big fan of tulle.

Anytime! I hoped it would be helpful. I'm going with the mimosa color and there's a party store at me that has this beautiful coral color I'm going to use for the napkins. It's pink enough for me...lol.

Where could I find some cheap opalescent decorations? I looked on that website but didnt see much. I have an idea for my tables, but Ill need an iridescent tablecloth.
Picture this and tell me what yall think:
Iridescent white table cloth with turquoise confetti and white candles down the middle, set with the turquoise plates, cups, etc.

Wow that sounds really beautiful! I don't know about irridescent tablecloths... but could you lay the irridescent tissue paper over it? I know that's not the best suggestion, but I don't think I've seen irridescent table cloths...I do know at party stores I've seen a lot of different decorations in that irridescent look.

We're trying to figure out if we're going to be doing ivory or white tablecloths. I'm afraid that the yellow will kind of mustardy on the ivory, but we were thinking ivory because my dress is ivory. What do you all think?

CindySue
11-30-2005, 03:55 PM
For some reason I couldnt see myself in an ivory dress getting married in May. The dress I was going to wear was ivory, When we decided to make ALL the dresses that really worked for me because to me white was just more "springy"
Thats just my opinion.
But to answer your question, I would hope people wouldnt be trying to match your dress to your tablecloth. :?
When you get your plates, go get a cheap tablecloth in each colr from the dollar store and compare but make sure you use all the colors you are using. It may take all of them to balance out.

That's what I figured...I'm pretty sure that the white will definitely work, so I guess it would just be a matter of looking at it on the ivory.

The dress I have is such a classic look that it works for spring (it's sleeveless and made of a very light fabric), plus it's a light ivory and it's an evening wedding. I fell in love with it, which was strange because I always thought of myself in a white dress. But when I put this one on, I just fell in love with the whole ensemble.

Ok ladies......I have looked but I cant find the plates and stuff in the opalescent color. I know Ive seen them before. My FH liked my idea for the tables only he wants to reverse the colors. Turquoise tablecloth with the opal confetti and tableware. Ok.....I know his idea sounds even prettier than mine, so of course Im going to check into it.

lol...

Maybe clear plates? I don't think I've seen them in an opalescent color either (plate-wise I mean), but you could always search around. I'm sure somewhere out there, someone has it...

By the way, I'm so glad to hear other people are using plastic plates!

The only thing Im really worried about is wine glasses. BUT......I can buy these for the wedding and then use them for decorations later. I looked at the plastic ones, but that just didnt seems right. When you clink wine glasses together they should clink and plastic wont do that.
I think I may use the plastic ones for centerpieces, though, with floating candles in them.

Check with party supply and restuarant supply stores in your area. You might be able to rent wine and champagne glasses for an evening for a price less than having to buy them.

AS for opalescent, try searching with pearlized insttead. Most pary places have pearlized things. It will be the same effect. I found shimmery clear items at www.apartyzone.com. But the closest I could find was either silver or clear. Maybe if you did the bales in turquoise then had clear dishes and flatware, then did balloons, confetti, ect in the opal color it could work out. I know you can get things like balloons and confetti in that shimmery color.

We'll be using plastic glasses for our toast, but if you're looking for wine glasses and don't have a big party...check the dollar store. The wine glasses we got for the centerpieces came from there. I'd worry about the plastic ones with candles; they might melt.

We'll be using bells for our tinking to make us kiss...we found place holder bells and we're putting a cute little poem where the place card would go explaining what the bell is for.

Ok you all can I throw somethign at you. Ok my wedding colors are out there lol. Each girl is wearing a different colord dress. The colors are light blue, yellow, orange ( not a bright orange ) , lilac, a mint green ( like the baby green ) and a darker pink , darker then the rest but they all look so good together. My problem is what do i do for the tables and such like you all are talkign about? I dont want to go over board with colors. I want it too look nice. I was thinking of gettign silk rose petals to put down the center of the tables. a different color on each talbe maybe. And i have a couple different ideas for center pieces but am not usre yet. But what do I do about the rest. The table cloths etc.> Any ideas?

Ok, how many guests are you having? If you are having several tables, you could have each table a different color. Like you said with the rose petals, only do everything in that color. OR......you could pick one colr as the main color ans have the others as accents, maybe.

Well we are not certain about the tables yet how many and if they are long or orund. Mos tlikely the long ones. For the amount of guest I am thinking about 50 to 75 if that many. I was thinkign of white table cloths and then addign the color in with the rose petals and the center pieces. Just not sure yet.

I would do one solid color for all the tablecloths. Like white or probably ivory. Then do the rose petals in different colors for each table and have a couple candles in clear glass holders or if you can find colored glass in the table colors, have some of each, clear and color(that would look cool) Or if you are using floating candles use colored water.

Hmm I wonder what it would look like if you used color on the chairs like this:

If you weren't planning on using the chair colors, just the color wrap thing would be pretty.

I just thought of this for the center of the table. Instead of using candles on the table what about hanging them like this. I love this! I am going to do this, but I am going for a nature type thing. Plus I think it will be cheap to do.

Rainbowtreat, what I would do is use all neutral colors for your tables and your centerpieces (with the exception of the rose petals, that sounds beautiful). That way the color of all the dresses looks even more splendid. Then the decorations around the hall you could do in that multi color effect. But as for the table, I would stick with neutral table stuff and clear glass candle holders.

Love the pics!

Hey, to all of you who checked out that site...did the mimosa color look light yellow to you? My mother pointed out that mimosa is champagne and orange juice and she doesn't know why they would call a light yellow color that. She's worried it won't be the right color and then we'll have 240 wrong colored plates.

I would just order one package to see the color, if it is right, you are ahead of the game by one. If it is wrong then you eat off of orange paper plates for a week. Also, check their return policy if the packages haven't been opened they should take them back.

usahgrad, I emailed them on the site and requested samples of the bermuda blue and the tropical teal because i want to see which one matches the turquoise closer. They responded quickly asking for my address to send the samples to.

Great idea Cindy! Thanks!

As for just ordering one pack, thanks for the suggestion Lacey, but the site runs off of cases that comes in 240 ct. And I already inquired as to their return policy and they don't take returns. Thanks though.

usahgrad, I also found almost the same thing on www.orientaltrading.com. They actually had a turquoise and you could get smaller packages. The prices are GREAT! I got my wedding favor bags from them. 48 of them for only $3.49. And they are good sized too. You can put 2 decks of cards in one. They have a lot of stuff I like. and I love the prices!! OH and they ship pretty quick AND keep you updated on whats going on. "you order is being processed", "your order has been shipped"

You will have to type " weddings " into the little search box on the site. It usually has a direct link to their wedding stuff, but Christams knocked it off for a couple of months i guess. But they have a LOT of wedding stuff! And the plates are in Party Supplies.

Arent they great? I could get soooo carried away on there if I let myself. I love the prices. My sister was the one that told me about it. She uses them alot for scrapbooking but she did use them for her wedding in 2001.

Being a scrapbooker...I can see why she uses them for scrapbooking! I can't wait until the day before the wedding when I get to hang up all my decorations and step back and look at how beautiful it is. YAY! We're getting married!

Kelli, I got my samples yesterday. They sent me a package of plates and a package of napkins in both colors. I was shocked.....I figured I would only get maybe one cup or something to compare with.
That was pretty quick.

I still have to email them about that...lol. I think I would forget my head if it wasn't attached. Good to know they send you so much though, then I'll really be able to tell what I want to get.

Ok, emailed my address to them, so now I get to wait. I'm so excited...which is sort of corny.

By the way, Party City has clear plastic tumblers and wine glasses (w/ separate bottoms) on sale 2 packs for $10. The packs usually about $7 a piece, so if you need them, this might be a good time to get them. :)
