Phewey! Surely there must have been a better way for this man to get his ring back *gag*
A man in the capital city of Cameroon was lucky to walk away, no harm done, after he jumped into a pit latrine to retrieve his wedding ring.
Witnesses said that they were waiting in line to use the public pit latrine (toilet with a hole in the floor) when suddenly they heard screams and cries for help coming from inside.
One of the men standing in line and who happened to be a policeman broke down the wooden door and upon going inside was shocked to see that the screams for help were coming from inside the toilet.
The toilet was about 3/4 full and lucky enough, the man was only submerged up to his waist in it.
The quick thinking cop undid his belt, lay down next to the hole and threw one end of the belt inside the hole to the man, who was now sinking rapidly.
The man did manage to catch the belt and hold on to it before sinking any further or even passing out from the carbon monoxide, sulfur and other dangerous gases produced by months-old feces.
Asked what happened, he said that his wedding ring fell off his top shirt pocket as he bent forward to wipe himself. He did not give an explanation as to why his ring would be in his shirt pocket or even why he would risk his life by jumping inside the latrine for a wedding ring.

That's odd that his ring was in his shirt pocket...My question is, is how did he fit down the toilet though??

I couldn't say what size of covering goes over it but, a pit latrine is basically a big hole in the ground.
This is a picture of one being dug

It's basically like an outhouse. So, the hole is relatively large. A person could easily fit in one.

Lol I think I'll tell Matthew that if he ever drops his ring in a pit latrine that it can stay there!!! We'll buy a new one!! That's disgusting.
It's reminding me of the time that when I was young (like 3 or 4) we went to Scout camp with my parents. (They were both leaders) and in the pit latrine was a glow worm. (remember the glow worms!?) Every night we'd go out there and look at it! lol. Gross I know, but the glow worm fasinated us.

Maybe he was seeing someone else at the time and that is why is ring was in his pocket and why he would have no good explanation for why it fell in, and that would explain why he had to jump in after it. In that case he deserves to be covered in sh*t.

At least you didn't jump in and take the worm home as a pet. LOL

It was a toy glow worm that glowed in the dark. I tried finding pictures of it on the internet but no such luck. They are a little plastic cartoony worm looking thing, you put it in the light and then it glows.
I think my brother and I asked my parents if we could fish it out (we were kids after all! lol) and my parents told us absolutely not!! I say good call!! Hee hee!

Oh. I thought you were talking about the soft cloth ones that you squeeze and they glow. I LOVED them when I was little. I dont' think they make them anymore.

Yeah when I was searching for a picture those doll things you posted were all that came up. Come to find out the things I was talking about was Glo-worms, made by Playskool or something. It doesn't sound like they made them for too long though.
Although I do believe they still make the glow worms you talked about Holly, I'm sure I've seen on in a walmart or something at one time recently! I could be wrong though...lol. I know they make a Winnie the pooh who's face lights up like the Glow worms did! :D

My very first thought upon reading it is that this man is having an affair and did not want to lose that ring and have to explain why. And as Melissa said "in that case he deserves it".

My guess is that they don't have much choice ...
Cameroon is in Western Africa, bordering the Bight of Biafra, between Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.

Totally disgusting. I think if it was me loosing my ring in the hole. It would stay there. Good enough for ya if you don't wear it on your finger, and instead in your pocket. I hope he got tested afterwards for diseases that all the feces and urine over thousands of people and months of sitting can have.
