Has anybody ever used Bare Minerals make-up? I have terrible skin and I am looking for something that covers well.

I haven't used it but I have seen it advertised. It's supposed to be all natural which is supposed to be better for your skin. Sorry I can't be of more help!
I started using it about a year ago. I was trying to switch over to all natural beauty products and gave it a try. And I'm still in love! It is so fun much to blend all of the different products that they offer for a unique look. It covers well and gives you a really flawless finish as long as you use their moisturizer. I'm very fair skinned and can get very red and blotchy. It's worked for me. Do you have an Ulta or some kind of beauty product store in a mall nearby? Go there and have them put some on you so you can see if it provides enough coverage for you.
I was trying to post a picture of me wearing the Bare Minerals, but it didn't really work too well. It's too small to see anything! I'll try again. :D

I been using it for about a year and I LOVEEE IT!!
I have bags and bags of makeup from cover up to liner
I had bad acne when I was younger and left some scaring but you cant even tell with the bare minerals.
Also if I forget to wash my face before bed it doesnt leave your face feeling dirty like other makeup.
I also suggest going to ULTA and buying a starter kit, comes with 4 brushes, 2 cover up and 1 tint thing. Plus warmth and some color. I bought mines for $45
Good luck

I just started using it and LOVE it. My mom and BF's mom both use it too. We all think it is great. It is really light and you don't feel like you need to wipe your face off half way through the day. We just got an Ulta which is where we got ours but Sephora has it too if you have one by you.
Sephora!!...that's the other store that I was trying to think of.

I get mine from this website - www.CKMineralMakeup.com It is cheaper than most other places I have seen.

Has anybody tried Avon's mineral makeup??? I am going to chicago this weekend and bare minerals is on my top to buy list, just wondering about other products that are mineral based....
I plan on getting the starter kit and seeing how I like it and if I do, look at the ingrediants and shop around from there... I am tired of using the store makeup like covergirl, max, and so on... i just want something with no lines, and not gunky.....

So I got bare minerals. Either I was dooped into buying it or I am not doing it right... It barely covers my redness or my acne scars... all I can say is I am not happy and feel like I wasted a butt load of money....

Did you buy the expensive "real" Bare Minerals stuff? I wouldn't spend that much on it; but I have some other brand and like it. Although I don't wear much make up, it does well for me when I do.
If you have specific areas you want to cover you can mix the base powers with your moisturizer and make a liquid foundation to add better coverage. I will do this and just dab it on the areas I want to conceal with a tiny brush and blend. Then put the powder on over it.

I have never tried it but this was written by a professional make up artist about the BM foundations -
As far as my personal opinion on Bare Minerals, I think there are better products to use as far as foundation for your wedding day. This is because:
1) Unless one of the three foundations that come in the kit is your exact match, it's hard to custom match a powder by mixing powders.
2) Due to the naturally occurring sunscreen in any mineral makeup, the chance for it to interact with the flash and cause you to look pale is greater than photo-friendly foundations.
3) Using too much when you have dry skin can make you look heavily powdered.
However, there are many members of the board who love Bare Minerals and if it works for you, then that's awesome!

If you have your perfect match in Bare Minerals and you absolutely love it, then I would stick with that for your wedding day, unless you've seen yourself in pictures with a flash and your face looks pale in comparison to the rest of your body.
If you would still like my opinions as far as the best makeup for combo/dry skin here are my top three of the moment:
1) Cinema Secrets Foundations (www.camerareadycosmetics.com (http://www.camerareadycosmetics.com/)) If you e-mail Mary, the owner of the store, your picture, she can recommend a palette that will match your skintone. Most of the professional makeup artists I know have a few of these palettes in thier kit.
2) Face Atelier Ultra Foundation (www.faceatelier.com (http://www.faceatelier.com/)) You can order samples for $1.00 each. I have them all and they are so concentrated, you can test them and still have some for your wedding! They have silicone, so they look smooth and flawless and are great for normal to dry skin types.
3) Benefit Playsticks (www.benefitcosmetics.com (http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/)) These are foundations and concealers in one and go on very nicely. A plus is you can go to your local Benefit counter and try them before you buy.
All of these foundations have no sunscreen, so you won't get that "mask" look you might experience with foundations that have any type of SPF.
As far as the best lighting for pictures, natural sunlight is always the best, but if that isn't an option, just make sure you have tested your makeup with a normal digital camera. My theory is if it looks good on a digital camera, it will look even better with better professional photography equipment.
I hope this helps!!

In my experience the only time anyone's face or make up in general ever looked bad in pictures was when they used the wrong shade or wore too much to begin with.

Okay I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE BE!!!!!!
I went to the BE studio to have my makeup done and then we are going to copy it!!
I was shocked at how much they swrill the brush soo much!
Have you watched the video yet?
I have been using this stuff for about a year. I always gave it the highest praise. Come to find out that I'm allergic to the junk. My skin has been getting increasingly worse. It's soooo natural that it contains Bismuth Oxychloride, a biproduct of lead and copper refining. :notsure:
My point is that if you have extremely sensitive skin like this pale Irish girl over here...that would me :frogg:...don't waste your money on this stuff.

I had never heard the term "photo friendly foundation" before reading that.
My SIL's make up artist layed on the make up heavier than normal, telling SIL that it would lessen the chance of her looking pale in the photos .... imho, it looked like she had far too much but I didn't say anything .. I was only 13 at the time - what did I know? :) A distinct blush line was showing in every photo.

Yea, I had my makeup done by one of the BM ladies at the store in chicago this weekend. I did end up buying the starter kit, and today decided to try it. I did the exact same thing that the lady did, and well it doesn't cover and the light-fair light makes my skin yellow kinda. I don't know how to explain it, because since I have fair skin they told me that they don't make a kit in fair that I had to buy the medium kit and then buy the fair foundation separately, well that doesn't make sense?!?!?
So I was stubborn and ended up buy the light-fair light, so I don't know if its the color but I found it stupid to buy the medium color when I am fair and have to spend another 30 dollars for the fair foundation. So this could be my own fault, but I am upset that it being light doesn't even cover a zit!!!
So who knows, but I am not wasting anymore money on BM/BE stuff until I can master this technique of swirl and tap!
Weblady, where do you get your mineral makeup?

missmess it is hard to return it since I bought it in chicago and I live in michigan we have no stores in michigan. But today I did some of my own mixing and it did a little better coverage, maybe i just need to get use to it... i dont know....

Oh no!!! I guess I did not get that!!
I was at the store today returning something! The cool thing is they give samples...so next time you are around one ask for some different colors and mix them :)
The trick I do is I put some on and then do stuff around the house, then go back and look at it! Like in the morning I put the first coat on and then brush my teeth....I swear the stuff appears in a few minutes :) Good luck! I really do l love it!
I bought my mineral makeup off ebay. I got it from the seller bareskincareminerals, whose website is:
http://www.mymineralglitters.com/joellecosmetics.html
I think that I like bare Escentuals better. But I don't have very problematic skin. I just like the overall flawless look that mineral foundation gives. So that's why I buy it cheaply. But my roommate last year used BE, and that made my skin look AMAZING!:

This is how my skin looks with the cheaper version off of ebay:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/magicjah/me/Fall046.jpg
And this is how my skin normally looks:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/magicjah/me/fixedhair010.jpg
As a side note, I have very pale, almost translucent skin, but I use medium beige, as the fair and light foundations make me look very washed out!

brideincuffs- the stuff is expensive, with most companies like this you can call their 800 number and explain the situation--- say you bought it far away etc etc-- they will most likely let you send it back and offer a refund or new color kit... its worth the call :)

Thanks for the advice Earlybird, I mean the more I use it and get use to putting it on and doing it my way and mixing it seems to cover better. I have noticed a difference in my complexion since using it just a couple of days... like its improved, but my whole thing is I don't think I can afford to keep up with using bareminerals.... your right its really expensive.... I just dont know where else I could get mineral makeup but cheaper...

BE was really one of the first companies to make it my lil sis has been using it since the early 90's! So they can get away with it! I have used other brands and I perfer BE! The little one you get in the started pack lasted me almost 6 months, I think that is pretty good! The blush, etc. will last over a year!

I bye Jane Iredale mineral makeup because it comes in a pressed powder and I think it goes farther, plus I dont make a huge mess and I can put it in my purse! It last me at least 6 months. I went to a local salon where they sell it, figured out my shade and then ordered it off ebay! I think its usually like $30 and its awesome!
I have also used the Physicians Formula mineral makeup in pressed form, and I like it too. They just dont have as many shades to choose from and none that match me as well as Jane Iredale.

BrideInCuffs -- I felt the same way about it. I don't have a lot of scarring, but I don't feel it covers blemishes as much as I was lead to believe. What I do is use my old cream cover stick, then I put on the BE.
I have really oily skin, and I don't think it's great for me at all. I get shiny faster than when I use my old standby, clinique superfit. I also find it to be a LOT more time consuming to put on. Which, in the morning, is a huge disadvantage.
But - I like the warmth and glee. I bought a few more brushes that lend more coverage with the foundation. (I, too, had to buy a separate thing of the fairly light foundation.) I also bought the "well rested", which was supposed to be good for covering blemishes, undereye circles, etc. I find it to be very yellow on my skin, so I only use it as an eyeshadow base. (I love it for that.)
I know this info is too late, but wanted to let you know you're not alone.

Thanks StJohn.... I have noticed over the past couple of days that yes it is time consuming, but I am getting better at applying it, but I dont do the swirl, tap thing. I do it my own way, but last night I did my makeup for work and well had a rough night, took a nap... and I couldnt believe that it looked like I had just applied it... it stayed put... usually if I fall asleep in the other makeup I would wake up oily or with a whitehead... but havent had any problems with it so far!!
I have noticed that my pore are becoming smaller and not as defined, and my complexion has actually improved in just a week, I dont know if has to do with the makeup or the multivitamin creme that came with the kit...
I do think I am going to stick with this makeup though... but I am going to look into those other sites, because this is way too expensive for me, I just thought what the hey I am on vacay and want to pamper myself... so i bought the kit!

I practically never wear makeup. The last time I did was for my brother's wedding - 6 years ago. But I want to look "polished" on my wedding day - so I think I'm going to give BE a try. A friend of mine told me there's a Sephora store in a mall near here and I think I'm going to stop by there on Saturday. Do they show you how to apply it in the store? Do they put it on you so that you can see what it looks like? I'm nervous! lol

I have no idea about the ghost look/photography business. We will have to test it out!
Anyway, Maybelline has some $10 mineral makeup right now. Also at my Walgreens, when you buy the powder foundation, you can get a blush or finishing veil. I got the veil. My opinion? Get the powder foundation and the blush. The veil makes me look cakey-it really feels more like a wet/dry concealer than a powder. Bleh.

i would recommend bare minerals to anyone and everyone. i love everything about it and haven't used anything else since i started using it 2 years ago. i haven't tried any of the other brands of mineral makeup but i would assume they all work the same and you don't really have to spend that much money on it.. but it is cheaper if you buy the starter package online and it comes with pretty much everything you need. the concealer brush is great for under the eyes and the second step called "warmth" is amazing and whenever i wear it people always compliment my color and think that i'm tan. TRY IT!

Not necessarily the mica, it's the titanium dioxide (sunscreen). In it's pure form it's a chalky white powder, and in certain flash photography it can reflect light and make you look much paler than you really are.
I've used BE foundation and I'm not a fan at all - it contains an ingredient that makes my face itch. I do love the eyeshadows/eyeliners the brand offers though.

I have been thinking about ordering Bare Minerals for a few months. I spotted L'Oreal Bare Naturale about a few weeks ago and decided to give it a try. It is 12 or 13 dollars at Wal Mart. I wasn't expecting much because I figured it was just another knock off of Bare Minerals. Almost every makeup brand has their own version now I noticed.
http://aycu25.webshots.com/image/50344/2001398758570323756_rs.jpg
I have really light skin and have a hard time finding foundation that doesn't look orange on my skin. I bought "Soft Ivory" color in Bare Naturale and it is perfect! It looks really good right after I put it on. My problem with it is that by the middle of the day it seems to have worn off and my skin doesn't look nearly as good as when I first applied it. I am not one of those girls who touches up her makeup all day long but I have to with this one.
The other thing that I don't like is that it's loose powder. I make a big mess with it, maybe because I have never used loose powder before. I know that is what Bare Minerals is too though. Maybe I just have to get better at applying it.
It doesn't have as good of coverage as the cream makeup that I normally use. That's a con for me because I have acne scars and blotchy skin. But it looks a LOT more natural, which is definitely a pro.
Also, the container is already half gone (I bought it on Easter) and I am used to makeup lasting me longer than that.
I think that I am going to try Bare Minerals and see if it is better. If not I might just continue to buy the L'Oreal kind.

My problem with all the powders and foundations is that it just looks so fake to me. I mean when I put it on, I can tell I got stuff on, eben though I don't have much of it. Maybe I will try Bare Minerals.

Well, I did it. I was just going to order the starter kit, then realized that I couldn't use my cheapo crappy blush and eyeshadow with the nicer makeup. Well, I could, but I figured I may as well do the whole effect. I also searched for coupon codes and scored a free tube of lip gloss that would have been $14. I'm not sure about the color, but what the hey, it was free! I spent over a hundred dollars, but I am using the wedding as an excuse to invest in some good makeup. And makeup usually lasts me quite awhile, so hopefully it will be worth it.
The shipping was free too, so yay!

I have been using BE for about 2 years. When I first got it, it took me a few tries to learn how to apply correctly but I love it!! I have to use one shade in the winter/spring and another shade in summer/fall because I tan in the summer and fade in the winter. :bblol: (using sunblock all year btw) I could never wear liquid makeup, it always felt heavy and by the middle of the day I felt the need to wipe it off. :purplex: Since I found BE, everyone tells me I look rested and glowing. I have really dark circles under the eyes and redness around my nose. It is pricey but you can adjust when you receive refills...I have my account set up to only receive refill every six months and that lasts plenty. But, from the other posts I see you can get it in cosmetic stores now like Sephora but I don't know if you would get the free gifts that I get in the mail.

I tried my mom's BE/BM stuff last summer because I'd been looking at it forever. Even though her skin is darker, the lighter version of medium worked and I fell in love with the product. I just recently made my own order from Sephora. Still loving it. My skin looks amazing, not caked on, not powdery, it covers the red and evens me out. I got one of their eye-shadow starter kits "meet the browns" that is working fairly well. Also trying the BE "Buxom" lip gloss line, and again LOVE it! I however, don't like the "Big Tease" Mascara of theirs I tried. It tends to smudge under my eye for that lovely raccoon look!

bare minerals burns my skin and it turns muddy and itchy in the summer. After a while my face was so dry and flakey. I think im allergic or something. I looked up my symptoms one day and it took me to a website where thousands of people has my same expeience, even worse. even though they market for sensitive skin i would be carefull it gave alot of people rosasea. My skin hasnt been the same since i used it. heres the website it has some good reviews but more are bad

So I tried Bare Essentials today. I like the result, think gonna buy it. I will give it a few days to make sure though that it aboslutely had no bad effect on my skin though.
I just bought Physicans Formula and so far I like it. :flower:

Has anyone out there tried this product? I am wondering how it works, seems to make sense to me and probably is better for the skin. But I would be interested in knowing how it looks.

I've only worn it once because it was professionally done for a friend's wedding, and I loved it. I've been buying cheap knock-offs ever since, though I have yet to find one that compares. Here's a picture that was taken at the reception, so several hours after it was applied:

Thank you for the quick response, you looked great by the way and you showed me it is definitely worth a try.
The mineral veil is definitely a winner! It's great as a touch up. I used to love Bare Minerals, but it started making my face itch and breaking it out. It doesn't do that to most people though. I just have really sensitive skin and I can't put much of anything w/ chemicals on it. It's annoying. :snide: It should work great for you though! Do you have a makeup store near you that will let you try stuff on first? That might be a good idea to make sure you don't invest in something and have a bad reaction to it.

So I ended up getting it today. Starter kit "light", fair foundation (since my skin is too light even for the light startup kit), primer and night treatment. I'm excited.
