I was just reading through another thread and saw someone post an amount for rent. I was just curious to see how much rent/mortgage is average where everyone else lives. You don't have to post your own but an average would be helpful.
Here in LA where I live for a 2 bedroom 2 bath apartment average rent is about $1300 - $1500.
To rent a 3 - 4 bedroom house it is about $2200 - $2500 per month.

For us renting this place is costing us $1100 a month and then utilities on top of that.
An average mortgage is probably somewhere in the $1200-1500 area. We'd buy but we're not sure we're staying in this city so we're just sitting on our hands for now I guess you could say.

I guess the average for a 3 bdrm. and 2 bathrooms is around $600 for a half way decent place. For a decent place it goes up to around $800. For garages ect. it goes up from there. I am not sure about mortgages though. As we are still renting.

I live in central New Hampshire and we pay $850 a month for a 2 floor 3 bedroom apt. That includes the heat and hot water. But it was a lucky find as most places nowadays you would be paying around $1000 a month for a place like this. I am not sure on morages. It realy depends on the house and where it is located. We have alot of mountians and lakes here. So that boosts up the cost alot there.

Our old apartment was $1100 a month for 3 bdrm 1 bath. Our town house 30 min north of there is $805 a month for a 3bdrm 1 bath townhouse.

I'd say average around here is 600-700. I live in a small 2 bdr under 1000 sq ft. We have 1 bathroom. I rent from an old couple who used to rent my brother his buisness (garage) and I pay $350 all utilities included! I am so lucky. It's small its got old radiators so it's either too cold or too hot usually, and I have to parl on the street. but its in a nice, quiet area and I will never get a deal like this anywhere else.

Wow that is not a bad deal. Even though there are things that are a nuisance.

LOL we like to do things a little differently in Montreal
A 2 bedroom is called a 4 1/2. This is because there is 2 bedrooms, a living room, diningroom/kitchen, & a 1/2 room (aka the bathroom).
A 3 bedroom = 5 1/2
When we first moved to Montreal, we rented a 7 1/2 for $1100 a month (LOL the landlord liked us so she lowered the price).
We had 3 bedrooms, a huge kitchen, full bathroom w/2 sinks, a roman tub, a shower stall and (hee hee) a bidet, a kitchenette, a dining room, a basement den w/fireplace, a garage, a powder room, a separate driveway and first right to use the back yard.
Then, the lovely landlord went and sold the building to the landlord from h3lll *insert long harassment, stressed out story here* and we are still waiting for our case to be heard at the rental board.
So, we decided to downsize, and save some money until we decided on what we would like to do. Like Shawna, we keep renting because we really aren't sure if we want to stay here.
We have a two bedroom, teeny tiny kitchen, dining room/living room combo, storage room and a huge bathroom again :) We pay about $650. Again the landlord likes us so he lowered the price and hasn't raised it since we moved in.

Here in little bitty Hardin, TX we pay $700 (but that does not include any utilities) for a 4 bedroom 1 1/2 bath brick home. (Rent) We also have a garage and carpeted game room that used to be a garage. We are getting out pretty cheap though. I would say that it would usually cost about $1000 for what we have. As far as apartment goes, around here you can nice 2 BR/2 BTH for about $600-$800. If you go into Houston it would go up.
I don't know that much about morgages, but I would guess the average morgage around here is $1000 or so.
The places in Houston that we've been looking to move to when we get married are about $700. That's just for a 1 bed/1 bath.

We have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apt it's about $680 a month. We are on the lower end for our area. But it's nice and works for us and the dog.

Right now we're in a house and are paying $200 per person, my friend was supposed to be staying here too or else it would have been $250. In May Chris and I are moving into another apartment and will be paying $550 for both of us, I think its a 1000 square foot apartment, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, storage area, dishwasher, and more. They're nice.

Everyone needs to move to arkansas. the average rent on something nice, such as a 3 bedroom, 2 bath would run around $350.00 a month, not including utilities. We own our home and it is 2100 square feet, one carport, 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, formal dining, small kitchen, large laundry room, huge living with fireplace and foyer. it is 2 story as well. large corner lot in town. We pay $280.00 a month for our mortgage.

Good lord, I need to move somewhere else. LOL!
For a one bedroom, 1 bath apartment in the suburbs of DC, they run from $1100 to $1300.
For a townhouse - 2 bedrooms, 2 baths or something - you're looking at $2200 to $2500.
Renting a house with a yard and everything - out of the question. LOL!

LOL that sounds like Toronto or Vancouver. Montreal is still somewhat affordable in comparison but Arkansas .... wow!
It's rather ironic to pay less for your mortgage than you would for a new car payment.
A house in Montreal that cost $55,004 in 1981 was worth $215,659 in 2006, a gain of 292 per cent.
Today, $215.659 would buy you a small plain bungalow in the suburbs (if you are lucky) and a nicer home about an hour out of the city.

We live in a 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath townhouse/duplex. We pay $600 a month rent. It all depends on the area of the city. We are in one of the more cheaper areas.

Here is amishville Pa..lol...A typical one bedroom apartment probably runs about $375-$475
A simple on floor two bedroom apartment runs about $400-500/ month!
We live in a half double house with 1 1/2 baths. That runs us 575/ month!
As far as homes go it depends on the amount of acres of land. Just the land itsef with out a house on it rates about $25,000 per acre...
As far as the cost of homes most ranches sell at 100,000 and up; depending on the amount of bedrooms and amount of time on the market.
We have a lot of subdivisions opening up and the range from 160,000-180,000 and that's just for a simple two bedroom home on a small lot.
I guess compared to most areas the cost of homes are pretty low right now. Shawn and I are currently looking to buy a home and have been looking for sometime. The right home/price just hasn't crossed our paths yet!

Oh boy, do I wish!!! LOL!
I could totally deal with a simple 2 bedroom rancher on a small lot for that price! The townhomes, which are nice, but have no yard or anything, run into the $400,000 range. Insane.
You'll find the perfect place soon! Sometimes it just takes a while. And you have to make sure that it's something you really like or can make adjustments to easily. Because once you are locked in, you are locked in for a long time. :) Good luck!

I guess the usual around here is probably between 600.00 to 800.00 for a 2 bedroom 1 bath, but out in the boonies where i live we have a TINY a$$ apt. we pay $375.00 plus electric, water and trash are included. the price is good, but we are sooo scramped it's not even funny, plus every time it snows we have to plow our small drive way (that fits like 6 cars, but really is only big enough for like 3!!)
It sucks for now, but we are counting on my Income tax (Joe's gets snatched every year by the wicked witch of the west!!) :icon_barbar:

At least LA is not the only one that is soooo expensive. I was looking at moving to Colorado last year and things were so much cheaper.
But I will take the rent in Arkansas NOW :)

It's all relative really ....
If you live in an area with higher than average home costs, you probably have a higher than normal salary too.
So ..... the trick seems to be to live in a dive in a high pay area, pinch pennies, save save save and then move to Arkansas, buy a beauuuuuuuuutiful home and retire!

We had this discusion with my family when I went home in Jan. My sisters dad was askig what we pay. I told them and they were shocked. Well my home town is a tiny thing on the endge of the earth lol ( more like the edge of the USA, I grew up on the border of Canada ). My BIL own alot of apartment buildings on the city and houses. He said they rent the house behind them for $600 a month and the people who rent it have to pay the utilties. He pays the water and sewer. But in that place your not makign any money. I know I have to pay more here but I can't go any where even if I wanted to. I stay here so my kids can have their dad. So I sacrifice as a parent to keep my kids happy.

we live in a very small town about 45 minutes from memphis, tn and about 30 minutes from jonesboro, ar. you can go either direction and travel further to work for better pay and still live in a nice home without paying large prices for it. i have lived in memphis (or the outskirts in small subdivisions), but the price was horrible in my opinion and not worth it. so the drive doesn't bother a lot of people.
the town in the ozark mtns i lived in in mt. view, ar. is a wonderful retirement town. there you can buy a house on the side of the river, or mountain top with beautiful views. houses run about $150,000 and up for vacation retirement homes with all the amenities. it is well worth those prices. seriously when retirement comes some might just check it out.

In Hamilton there's a pretty wide range depending on the age of the building and the area you live in. Rent can be anywhere from $600 to $2000 + but I'd say average is about $900 not including utilities.
That's why we bought :-P Our house cost a little under $200 000 for a three bed one bath bungalow but it's in a really central location.

Average rent, I would say, for a 2 BR 2 Bath apartment is probably about $800. Though I live in one of the cheaper apartments ($635) majority of them are in the uppers of $700 and such.
For a good starter home in a good neighborhood in my town, around $150K. 3 BR 1 bath with 2 car garage. If you don't want a starter home (a bit larger, newer, bigger yard, etc) you're looking at at least $250K.
