invites are done!

i'm doing a message in a bottle invitation on my own. i bought all the supplies individually and my total for 85 invitations is right around $100 which I am quite happy about considering the prices I had found on the internet for the message in the bottles. i still have to assemble everything but here's what i created so far.

the plastic bottles shown in the pic go right in the mail without a problem. they only cost 0.63 to mail them out as long as they are 2oz or below (confirmed with the post office..told you i'm paranoid!). they don't need any covering as long as it's not glass. so i'll just have some sand and shells in mine and stick a label on the front and send them on its way :)

thank you ladies! i appreciate it. it was hard work but worth it i thought. i would've paid 4times that amount if i got it done so that was silly.

here are the instructions in case anyone wanted to use the message in a bottle idea for something else:
1- buy bottles. i used http://www.sandartsupplies.com/
1 - 71 : $.69 ea
72 - 143 : $.64 ea
144 - 499 : $.59 ea
500+ : $.51 ea
2- bought the sand and mini-shells also from the same site
3- made my invitations with adobe illustrator
4- using a postal scale and put roughly 2 tablespoons of sand and 6-8 shells and try and keep the weight aroudn 1.6-1.8oz
5- roll the invitation (the tough part) and i used some raffia to tie the invitations
*i used the raffia to be extra long so that people could pull the invitation out by the raffia tie and didn't struggle trying to get it out, so that's why it's so long in the pics
6- extra touches include putting a couple of drops of a fragrance (i.e. coconut, pineapple, ocean breeze, etc) to the cork
7- u can send it out with a regular wedding 0.63 cent stamp since the bottles are less than 2ounces.
8- drop them off at the postal office :) they can go right in the mail without a problem as long as u buy plastic bottles and not glass

I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!! We found almost the same ones at a "Dansk" glass sale in the fall. We went and bought the ones for a shower. I couldn't belive the price of them isn't it crazy??
