View Full Version : My idea...............

Ok my friend that was going to be my MoH was going to give me her dress to wear. She has gotten to where I dont think she even wants any part of my wedding and thats fine because I have "reliable" backups ready.
My thing is that since shes not going to be my MoH, I dont feel right using her dress. BUT............I have come up with another idea.
I have thought about making (or having them made) the attendants dresses which Im pretty sure are going to be sundresses. That way I can save money but I know they will match in stead of my friend wearing one dress and not finding one close for my daughter. My wedding is very low key anyways so the whole formal thing is out.
Back to my idea..........I thought about using the same patten that the other dresses were made from to make mine only have mine made with material more suited for a wedding dress.
I could pull this off right? This would work?
If not....is there a way to make it work? Because I really really love this idea.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. It would look very pretty I think. This is YOUR wedding so YOU do it your way!! Have fun and if thats how you want to do it, go for it!!

I mean it wouldnt look stupid would it? I could change the dress up enough that while it still favors the others, it doesnt look just like theirs only a different color?
I think I may be being a tad bit anal about this. :?

You could always add some length to your dress that the others won't have and of course if you were to do it in a soft white with some light flowers through out that would help for your dress standing out from the rest. I think this work well if you are having a very casual wedding. In fact in my mind I see a very cute and light, airy flowing/feeling wedding. In fact I would make yours a full length skirt if you could but still have it similar to the BMs. I like your idea!! It sounds so cute!!

I thought it sounded cute too. The attendants dresses are probably going to be either sage or turquoise (depending on which color sceme we decide to go with)
Mine is going to be white or maybe an opaque color. (again depending on the color sceme)
Thats what I was trying to go for , the light flowing look. I mean we are getting married in the spring, next to a lake. This just seems to fit.

This to me sounds incrediably beautiful, and fitting because its by the lake. It will look awesome!

First, no, it wouldn't look stupid. I think it would be beautiful...I mean really beautiful! I'm having my bm dresses made and it REALLY cuts back on the cost. If you were to make what I'm making for the bms out of the fabric I'm using in white it would be GORGEOUS and only cost about $40! I'm telling you, if you like the idea go with it. It is YOUR wedding.

I am sorry to hear that you're having problems with your MoH though. My MoH lives four hours away and works like a dog, so I don't get to see her very often. Niether of us are really in on each other's wedding plans (she's getting married less than two months after me and I'm her MoH) but we're good like that. Good luck!

I think it sounds lovely. You could add some sheer layers over your dress, so that it's very fluttery and set apart. You can even find material with beading already on it for reasonably priced.

I can't wait to see what it looks like!! :D

I like the idea. It will be cute. Since you are getting amrried out of doors by a lake, you don't want some huge full ballgown anyway. I would just do what some of the other girls suggested and change your dress a little....maybe longer, different material, take off or add straps, maybe add a little train. Just something. The fact is everyone will know that you are the bride so no worries there.

A little unkonwn fact, in the ancient time/middle ages bridesmaids would wear the exact same dress as the bride in order to confuse evil spirits that could be lurking around. (What kind of evil spirits hung out in churches back in the day, I don't know....but apparently some did.)

LACEY!!!! I read that exact same thing last night! About the attendants dressing like the bride and groom. I also read a variation of it that the evil spirits were in the form of a curse put upon the couple by a spurned suitor and everyone dressed alike so the curse would be throw off while the bridal party walked to the church.
I have found some really pretty patterns and am working to get them on here so I can show you.
As far as my orginal MoH goes, Yall shes been my friend, at times my best friend for about 10 years. We are not as close as we used to be. I didnt ASK her to be my MoH, she just assumed she was going to be. I wasnt even going to have one. Then my daughter wanted to know why she couldnt be in the wedding............ok see what happened here?
I printed off a list of the duties a MoH is supposed to have and there is no way she would do a fraction of those. Shes more about herself and isnt very reliable at all. And she now seems relived that someone else will be doing her part......only she seems to think that SHE still gets to be the one standing right next to me.
On the other hand the girl thats stepping in is great. We are going to be moving in the next couple of weeks and so are they (We actually bought their house). I kinda figured most of my planning will be put on hold till after the holidays anyways but she told me last night shes very sorry that we havent gotten much done and she hopes its ok if we wait till everyone gets moved before we work on it. Is this woman great or what?

It sounds like you have a great new MOH. That will make the planning so much easier. I woudn't get half the stuff osne that I needed to if it weren't for my MOH. She is a Godsend too.

I do feel more than a little guilty that my long time friend doesnt really want the part. She does want the title but not the resposiblities that come along with it.
Another thing that bothered me was that the dresses I liked for the attendants she would say "thats not going to look good on me...we have to find something else" She wasnt even helping me look!
I know the look I want for my wedding and while I do understand that I have to make some allowances, I was getting the feeling I was having to plan MY wedding around what she wanted.
I do have a plan now and I know ways to help make it work.

I came in a little late on this, but wanted to offer that I think that is a wonderful idea....I would change your dress up a little as Lacey said, so that it will be more then obvious that you are the bride. When you make a decision of what you are going to use, let us see it!!

Ive posted a couple of patterns I like in my journal. Tell me what you think. Although I love the way that Lorenzo dress of Carrie's touches the floor. Im trying sooooo hard to find a pattern like it. I thought I had one, but it didnt even come close.:bbcry:
