Would it be tacky of me to get my BM's bouquets out of silk flowers? and mines real?
I think real ones are a lot prettier than the silk ones. The silk ones also look fake and stiff. I was thinking with silk flowers they could keep and would be cheaper then the real ones.
It's like on your day you want your items to be perfect while others you really dont care too much about, but still have to look decent.
My MOH thinks I should do real flowers, but she isnt paying for them. What are your suggestions? What did you do at your weddings?

I don't know, to me you can get a fairly inexpensive bouqet for your BMs that are real too, and I just do't know how that would look really. If it were me, I wouldn't do it but hey it's your wedding and your day so it's your call. Just be sure to do price comparison, some of those silks are **** near as expensive as the real deal to be honest. I think the silks we used for our arch cost us more then one bouqet for a BM. However, there always sales, which Ididn't hit up to be honest.

For my cousin's wedding she had the only real bouquet and our's was silk..I don't think anyone really took much notice and we didn't care. Although her MIL made the bridesmaid dresses which were like something horrible so we already stook out like a sore thumb...
How big is your wedding party? You really can get good buys on some cheaper more common flowers. If you buy silk flowers, arrange them and buy all the DIY supplies you'll probably end up paying more!

All of our bouquets were silk and I liked it that way. I love the fact that I still have my bouquet and it still looks as good as it did at that wedding.

Well I am having one Maid of Honor, Matron of Honor, 2 brides maids and a flower girl :)
I'll have to look around and see if I could get some good deals.

I hope it's not because that is what I am doing! I am getting married on Mother's Day weekend and could not get a florist to even consider doing all the fresh flowers I needed but they did agree to do my bouquet in fresh and my BMs in silk. He's been doing it for 23 years and said he does it all the time.

I look at it this way - it's the BRIDES day and your bouqet should be special. I wouldn't worry about it too much - just do what is most economical for you.
do what you need to do. i find that's usually my answer to a lot of questions i have. i know there are definitely "rights" and "wrongs" in regard to some etiquette but i seem to just do what i can.
you have a fairly small wedding party so real flowers wouldn't be that expensive if that's what u really want. esp if u DIY. however, if u prefer silk then just use silk. like melissa pointed out, it's really nice ot be able to keep the flowers afterwards.
i highly doubt many people attending the wedding will comment on that...and if they do, then it's their issue! so just do what you prefer!

your bouquet will look better regardless. usually u make the BMs bouquets small and simpler compared to yours.

Well, if you want your bouquet to stand out among everyone elses here's some suggestions you can do!
Have jewels added with the bouquet or have you intilials or monogram (that is made with crystals) in your bouquet!
Have your florist spray you flowers with gold or sivler sparkles
Have your bouqet wrapped in satin
Hope this helps..

My bouquets were all real. The BM bouquets were really inexpensive and simple. I don't think we could have gotten silks for any cheaper. I did use silks on the arch and candleabras. I would have loved to use real ones, but that would have cost way too much for the arrangements we had.
If you really want to do real flowers for the bms and want to cut down the cost, have them carry a single rose or calla. Then tie a bow around it and walla! It's simple and super elegant to me.

I know it may sound weird and I'm not sure what's available where you live, but we have a really nice chain of grocery stores called Giant and they do really nice floral arrangements and bouquets. And they have package deals. Like the bridal bouquet, 6 boutonniers, 1 MOH bouquet and 2 BM bouquets, and 2 corsages for like $200-$250. And they are fresh and really nicely arranged.
I know it sounds strange, but it may be worth checking out in your area. You would be surprised what you can find at places you wouldn't think of looking.

We are using all silk flower's. I want to admire them for years to come. Also it was cheaper for us to go with the silk flowers, then having real calla lillies and roses.

I don't think it'll really matters as long as they are nice silks and not too obvious. Like the flowers that have been sitting on Gramma's table in the living room since you were born. Come on ladies, you know what I'm talking about!
I used to work in a floral shop and I've seen how beautiful some of the silk flowers can be. And also how hard it is to tell them apart from the real ones.
I persoanlly am opting for the real ones. If I could find fake cala's at a reasonable price then maybe for the BM's but I'm really not sure. I have a pretty sweet deal going on right now with a florist and I doubt I could beat that.
It's really up to you what you want to do. However keep in mind you do want some consistency with them going together. You don't want them so starkly different that it looks like your in different bridal parties, but that's JMO.
Good luck on flowering!

My flowers were actually rather expensive. My bouquet was 175.00 and the BM's were 70 a piece. Personally, I loved loved loved my bouquet, but not 100 percent thrilled with how my BM's came out...
Think about how much time you have before the wedding, and make sure you shop around!! I personally see a future DIY project from you :)

I think you just need to check some places before you decide because from what i have looked into. that the silk flowers are just as pricey as the real ones. goodluck. I'm sure all will be very pretty.

Unless you DIY, many "live" arrangements can be the same price as silk. Many brides choose a live arrangement for the ceremony and "toss" it (because it will "die"), and have a silk arrangement to keep. Single flowers with a ribbon or some baby's breath and ribbon are extremely attractive and inexpensive. Remember foliage is more cost effective than actual blossoms! Think baby's breath, ferns, etc. A full bouquet with just a few flowers. You could also check with a local greenhouse or nursery. They are often more cost effective than a florist and can provide bouquets and centerpieces at a lesser cost.

True, I was quoted the same price whether I chose silk or live flower's the only difference was one I could keep forever and 1 would die. That is why I chose the silk ones.

I did real flowers for the bouquets and the centerpieces were silk. But then again, I only had 2 BMs. At one of my friends' wedding she had real white roses and her girls carried yellow and white silk roses. I personally didn't like how it looked together. It just didn't flow right to me. How my BMs do you have? Could you shop around for cheaper florist prices? Could you maybe purchase all real flowers and just put the bouquets together yourself?
Here are a couple pictures.
