Ok ladies. I'm trying to get ideas for invitations. I'm having a fall wedding. What are some good sites to look at? I read somewhere that it is some times cheaper to order them online then to make them yourself. I don't have a very large budget. Also, how far in advance should I order them? Thanks!
Nikki

Well, depending on how fancy they are...you could make them yourself and save some money. However, if you get into any type of fancy decorations, it might cost a little more. I am looking to start an invitation/card business...maybe we could talk and I could come up with something and give you a good break since it would help get me on my feet...

ikkin510: there are some business supply places (like Staples) that sell blank invitiations with the RSVP cards and all the envelopes. The prices are good, and if you watch for sales they do go on sale often. You could also look at craft shops (like Micheals) they sell fancy cardstock etc. And you can print them with a nice typeface. I'm making my own as well. I got plain cardstock and created my own design in Adobe Illustrator. I bought plain white envelpes at Staples. I think in total my invites will cost me $50 for 150 invites, all the RSVP cards and 2 different envelopes.

usahgrad: I was thinking i might do the same. Start my own invitation and card company. I'm just finishing up Graphic Design. I'd love to talk more with you about it!

I've seen the sets to make invitations at Michaels and Party City (along with some other party places) too! If you have a discount party outlet near you, maybe you could check there.

Tip: If you are printing on vellum (the paper that is kind of see through) make sure that you use LIGHT ink (there's a setting for it in properties in the print window...mine says "Draft") and you give each individual sheet time to dry. Vellum inhibits the drying of ink a little bit and could get smeared if you stack them together too fast.

Something we did when we made our engagement announcements was pick up some very thin handmade tissue paper (it was on sale when we got it so it was only $3 a sheet, but for the simple stuff, it's usually only $6/$7 a sheet). You can see our engagement announcements here: http://www.geocities.com/thesuttons513/knot.html (Click the "See Our Engagement Announcements" Link)

(Sorry about all the pop ups!)

Kelli your engagement announcements are beautiful. I am so jealous of all you craetive girls out there.

I, not being creative or patient, have decided to order my invites. Sean and I found ones that we fell in love with from the Regency company. They were going to be $511.77 for 150 complete sets. But I did some poking on line and found them at www.toinvite.com for $320.60. The site sells all of the Regency and Carlson invitiations at big discounted prices. I haven't ordered from them yet. It is on this months to do list. So, when I get them, I'll let you know how they are. By the way I checked and they are authorized dealers.

Thank you Lacey!

We ordered our invitations last weekend and they cost us less than $200! They're really beautiful invitations from Carlson Craft. If y'all have a Party City near you, I recommend them; they give a TON of discounts.

I'll have to check Party City out. I am heading to one over the next couple of weeks to get stuff for our Christmas party. Thanks Kelli

I'm DIYing too. But, I wanted to tell all of you, I found this site. I love the old wax seals, but they don't hold up in the mail. These do:

All different colors (even GLITTERY ones!!) and you can add metalic stuff to the final stamp:

(Ours will probably look like this (since our inital is 'M') but in another color)

I got a wax seal for my graduation announcements and that's all that sealed them shut...they held up just fine in the mail. It's not a problem as long as they're not on something flimsy that could get wrinkled in the mail...then they'll crack and break off. I got my stuff at Michael's and that's where we're gonna go to get the stuff for our invitations too. Although, I'm not sure if I'm just going to get something generic or if I'm going to get an initial...and then I'm not sure if it's appropriate to put an S on it or not (that's my FH's last name initial). Any input?

I think it's fine to use his initial. No one should give you any flack.

Just make sure that if you do the wax seal, you request at the post office that they be hand canceled. If not, the heat from the machienes will cause the wax to melt and smear. I love the wax seals too and will probably do them.

I usually google everything I want to find. Here is a link:

Isn't google heaven sent?

Like I said, I didn't have any problem with my grad announcements that had seals and I didn't do anything special at the post office when I sent them. That's all they were sealed with and everyone's got to the person they were sent to in one piece. Maybe Michaels sells the more durable kind...

May I offer a suggestion? I don't know how many of you would be interested, but I know that this is what I will be doing, because I see it as such a good deal!

I am ebaying for my invitations. And actually, I have a certain individual in mind. They are of course home made, but this way, it saves you the work. Her deals are, in my opinion, amazing and well worth it!

This is from her auction site. Her Buy It Now price for ALL of these items is $29.99

Your invitation package will consist of the following …

50 Invitations (approximately 6¼"H x 4½"W, printed on 110# acid-free white cardstock)
50 Invitation Envelopes (White Baronial, complementing size to invitation)
50 RSVP Cards (approximately 5"W x 3½"H, printed on 110# acid-free white cardstock)
50 RSVP Envelopes (White Baronial, complementing size to RSVP card)
50 Reception Cards (approximately 5"W x 3½"H, printed on 110# acid-free white cardstock)
50 Envelope Seals (1-2/3"D, white, self-sticking containing a single complementing graphic OR the word "Love" in a script font if a ‘single’ graphic cannot aesthetically be created from the design)
50 Invitation Return Address Labels (1" x 2 5/8" white, self-sticking containing a single return address)
50 RSVP Return Address Labels (1" x 2 5/8" white, self-sticking) So, that means for $60.00, plus the S/H charges, you get 100 invites with 100 envelopes; 100 RSVP cards with 100 envelopes, 100 reception cards, 100 envelope seals and 200 return address labels.

This is the invite that I will more then likely be ordering from her as we are kind of going with a heart theme

Now, remember that normally, when BUYING ones from the usual people, you would get (if you are lucky) only the invites for that price. It's a deal. If anyone wants her ebay name, pm me and I will get it to you!
