I am planning to have an April wedding and have always thought red is a beautiful color for weddings, but since it will be in such a "springy" time of year, will it be unflattering, rather than romatic? I know I'm the boss, but I'm stuck between having gorgeous tones of red with red and white roses, OR having a pretty pastel yellow with white roses and a few sprinkles of white daisies here and there. I think either one would be pretty. Just need some ideas! Maybe still use red as the color but make it springy, too! I can't think of anything. Any ideas out there will be very helpful!

Welcome to the boards and congrats on your engagment.
Maybe you could just use the color red as your accent color and put white and another color as your main colors.

I think red spring wedding would be beutiful..Think...Red Tulips!!!
You can go for a monocramatic look by using various shades of the Red family going from bright cherry red to pink to give your colors more of a spring feel...Also, You could go with a Red and a light or even bright yellow. I don't think season are limited too much to color anymore. I think it is more the material of the gowns and tuxes that set the tone for the season...A big hit this fall and still is, is pink and brown.
The best advice I can give is #1 you can go with any color shceme you want..There really is a wrong way. Just watch the types of material you use in the bridal party.
Also, if you haven't boughten your dress or booked your reception or ceremony venue do that first before deciding on colors. (I never believed this advice until I went gown shopping by the way) Hues from you gown, you reception venue, and even your ceremony venue can help set the stage for your color scheme and make the decision a whole lot easier!!

I think red in the spring will be just fine. I love red and that's what color I used in my wedding. Jonelle's idea with red tullips is great and you could also use red gerber daisies. Those are both very springy looking flowers.

Thanks for all the wonderful tips! I love ALL kinds of flowers...the tulips are perfect for spring, and the gerber daisys are so happy looking. What are anyone's thoughts on incorporating red roses in the mix? Although I love all flowers, I have a passion for roses. I was thinking of having a rose bridal bouquet but my centerpieces at the reception could have the mix of tulips and gerber daisy, and the wedding cake could be decorated with the red gerber daisies...just some thoughts. ANY comments are welcome. Love this site by the way...thanks again to everyone who contributed their thoughts. It is appreciated!!!!

You are more than welcome!!
You can really use whatever flowers you want in your bridal bouquet..The more "inseason" flower you use though will keep your prices down if you are at all concerned within staying on budget. Also, Check with your BM's maybe they all have a different flower or birth flower you could use in their bouquets to make each on special too and have a wide variety of flowers!
You may save $$$ on your centerpieces if you go with the tulips and gerber daisies for centerpieces since generally they are much cheaper..Red roses in the bouquets would be perfect. You could also do your bouquet all roses and have you BM's carry gerber daises and roses together. Also, there is a thread for spring blossoms I posted a picture of an Aisle lineed with tulips to keep it feeling like spring too! Mini calla Lillies are a little on the more pricey side but they also come in a ton of different colors including various shades of red!!
I think your ideas sound wonderful. Remember this is you and your FH's day and keep making it your own!

I don't think that there are any set rules of what you can/cannot do with your flowers. I think just basically anything goes! I am going to use red with silver accents, but for my bouquets, I am adding in oranges and deep purples. I wouldn't not use red just because your wedding is in the spring.

I like the silver accents idea. I've been thinking of that for a while but wasn't sure of the details. Maybe silver votive candles as part of the table centerpieces or silver containers for the red flowers. Thanks for the advice.

I think a red rose bridal bouquet is a classic look. It can go with any season. Another thing for your BM dresses, to me tea length looks more springy. You can still go with red, but maybe have them tea length and maybe a white sash tied around the waist or something. Also use open toe shoes. Cute strappy ones would be nice.

It is your wedding and you should do whatever color YOU want to do. Don't look back and wish that you had chosen another color. I am getting married in May and by colors are very Autumn-like but that's what I want! Are you getting married in the evening?

btw - if you want any red heart decorations, favours and such, why not buy them right after Valentine's when they go on sale?
Check out the Valentine's Theme thread for more red inspiration.

We will not be having an evening wedding. It will be a little...shall we say...countryfried! So far, the plan is to have it at noon with a lunch reception to follow in the fellowship hall of the church. We want to get to our honeymoon destination that night, which will be about a 4 hour drive to the smokey mountains. I just want something simple. I want people to be comfortable and not have to worry about which fork to use. We'll have paper plates and plastic silverware; I've even thought of making it a cookout since grilled cheeseburgers are my favorite food in the entire world. I also thought to get some of those old fashioned coke, root beer, and cream soda bottles (like Stewarts) and just put them in some old tubs of ice and let everyone help themselves. That's the kind of people we are. There are several farmers and their families I attend church with and fancy is no where in our vocabulary. The fanciest thing will be my dress!! Oh yeah...and our photographer. She's awesome!!!! Check out her website at www.juliachristopher.com (http://www.juliachristopher.com)
I thought red gerber daisies would make very cute centerpieces. My parents collect a lot of antiques and have a building full of them, so I thought of going through that stuff to collect "vases" for the red gerber daisies. Each centerpiece will have its own look! Oh yeah, and red gerber daises on the wedding cake!

Oh yeah..thanks for the tips on the colors! I do agree that it should make the BRIDE and her man happy...not everyone else.
The tips on the after Valentines Day sales is great! I'll get my check book ready for Feb. 15th.
