Awwww poor thing :(
Oral thrush is a yeast infection of the mucous membranes of the mouth and tongue.
Thrush is caused by a fungus called Candida albicans. This organism lives in your mouth and is usually kept in check by healthy organisms that also live there. However, when your resistance to infection is low, the fungus can grow, leading to lesions in your mouth and on your tongue.
Thrush appears as whitish, velvety plaques in the mouth and on the tongue. Underneath the whitish material, there is red tissue that may bleed. The lesions can slowly increase in number and size.
If an infant with thrush is breast-feeding, talk to your doctor about ways to prevent future infections, such as an antifungal medication. Sterilize or discard any pacifiers. For bottle-fed babies with thrush, discard the nipples and buy new ones as the baby's mouth begins to clear.
Thrush in infants may be painful, but is rarely serious. Because of discomfort, it can interfere with eating. If it does not resolve on its own within 2 weeks, call your pediatrician.

I think I remember one of my babies having thrush too. I think it goes away by itself. Hope your baby gets better soon.
In the future, please try to keep the baby talk at the BabyRaising website. Here is the link. Thanks! :) http://www.babyraising.com/forums/

my son had it 4 times as a baby and the dr finaly figured it as from well water even though we were boiling it. so we had to buy bottled water to wash all his stuff.. it was horrible he had it all the way in his throat.he had a really hard time even drining his formula

I actually thought that only bottle fed babies had it lol It can sometimes be caused by sterilising products and the like - think tis just one of those which can be triggered off by a mountain of things. It's so long agao but i know i had something off my Dr for it. Hope hes better soon xxx

I'm sorry your baby has thrush!
Candida Albicans is no joke in adults. There are millions of Americans walking around with it and don't even know it. It loves white foods (sugar, bread, etc.). I know everything there is to know about it since my best friend is extremely sick from it.

Elizabeth said all that I was going to say. I could tell you how they test for it...but I doubt you care! LOL!
Like Darlene said too, thats pretty much the only yeast that they check for in adults. They usually just classify it as C. Albicans or Candida other...because most of the others are not as harmful in adults.
