After a thread I posted about motivation to workout, Heather suggested an idea of having weight loss buddies on OW to help keep each other motivated.

I would imagine a great way to keep up with each other and check up, would be to share a personal email or IM, so that we have better contact with each other. Though, of course, doing it through PM's would also work out easily as well.

Let me know what you think, and any suggestions you may have. We could create a list similar to the postcard exchange to pair up and all, or we could list weight loss goals and try to pair up that way as well. Any and all suggestions would be great! And if you want to be a part of it, just post in this thread and I'll try to keep a list!

I'm in. I say, lets start Feb 1st, that way we start fresh in a new month. I like the idea of all posting here, then we can share ideas and experiences thru it all. Good job Maria!!!

Ok, I'm really bad. I am paying $80.00 per month for a membership to the gym AND a healthy eating program. When I started it, I did great right away, but I didn't have any support :( My co-workers loved to have cookies, cake, brownies, etc. and at home, well, it just didn't work! HOWEVER, FH & I are doing our own "biggest loser" and the winner will get $1000. We started on Jan 1, however, he is not doing his healthy so I am not following what he says. He has cut out all red meat, no soda/pop, but he is drinking water which i never thought I would see. He is limiting himself to 10-12 fat grams per day (my trainer told me i needed 20-30 per day) so I can't follow his advice either.

I won't lie, I'm a baby, I need support to do this :bbredface:

So far, I've got all of you on the list. I'm with Heather in thinking that the best time to start would probably be Feb 1st, that way we're starting with a new month and all. So, anyone who wants a buddy can post here til the 29th or so, and I'll use some kind of random mix to match people up? Unless, everyone wants to do more of a match by fitness interests. Just let me know!!!

I like the random idea better. I, personally, get upset w myself if I can't keep up w someone who is doing the same thing, and hit thier goal better. If I am possibly trying to reach a separate goal, I don't feel so 'pressured'. Does that make sense?

Count me in too! I was gonna start my pre-wedding get in shape thing as of Feb 1 anyway. A buddy would be a great, someone to kick your butt when you need it!

Oohh i want in please!!! Im rubbish at losing weight lol!! I agree random (as long as i get Melissa LOL) oh oh oh ive just remembered i havent changed my ticker!! i have actually lost a couple of pounds since i put it up!! I didnt even notice but i weighed myself this morning and im down 4pounds!!! yippee!! But i might not count them!?? dont know lol Might start only counting pounds lost after 1st feb??

I'm in, as well. I'm fine with random, but I personally think I would do better with similar goals/excercise type thing (I am aware all of you want random, but I just wanted to put my 2 cents in ;)). The main reason is b/c I think I would get more out exchanging ideas, etc. if we were in a similar situation. For example (I'm going to use Melissa, just b/c I've read more about her working out, etc) Melissa likes to work out, but I really don't, so I think our weight loss methods may clash. Also, I have a lot of weight to lose and I am kind of feeling a little hopeless about it, so I don't know how well I would relate to someone that only had ten pounds to lose, kwim? Does that make any sense at all?? I don't think I explained that very well...I think I am just rambling now! Sorry, I'm done now lol. I'm fine with random pairs!

You could join the gym early, then you would be familiar with the equip and layout and be ready to kick it into high gear come Feb 1st. :bbmrgreen:

Sorry I wasn't very specific with that..

Oh I already go and pay a monthly membership at Gold's Gym...I'm starting Feb 1st as a year long member it's cheaper that way..I started way back over the summer, stopped going from November through December then started back up in January. In January I weighed 156 and now I am down to 147 already! I guess the only reason I did it month by month is because I was afraid I wouldn't commit to it and then dealing with me getting colds and the flu, the kids etc. it made it impossible to go. Plus, I was just kind of trying it out for a while to make sure I first off liked it and second it worked for me..So, since I payed January only a month I have to wait to feb 1st to sign up for a year membership!!

I do mostly cardio at the gym anyways...3 days a week I do body pump which is a class that does low weight high reps and it kicks your butt let me tell you. You do the same routine for 3 months and then it changes to a new one so you have the chance to learn your form and get the most out of your workout. It is also designed for a full body workout and targeting those not so nice muscles too! There's no cardio in that so two days a week I get my cardio in. Sometimes I'll hit up the spin class or I'll go on the elipticals on my own...I do best in a class when I have someone pushing me!! LOL

Okay, well,.. I guess we're going with random. I'll give anyone else who wants to participate until the end of the week, and then I'll PM each of you with your buddies' name. At that point, we can each contact our buddy's and decide how we want to keep each other motivated!

Friday, the 26th will be the day I make the matches.

i need to lose 30 lbs so whos with me?? more will be nice but thats my goal, going back to my before kids weight is another 20 after tha lol and i dont think that will ever happen lol my hips got to big from the last one lol anyway sooo ogetting off topic. if someone wants someone who has same weight loss goals i need 30 lbs and i dont have alot of time to work out. soooo ya im done

Hey! I'm new here...I just got engaged on Christmas eve and am really enjoying all of this great new wedding stuff. Y'all seem so great and I'm very excited that I found you guys. I actually found this site by typing "weight loss buddies" into the search engine! I'd really like to join in with a weight loss buddy. It would just help me so much to have somebody to be accountable to at the end of the day. I'm currently not overweight...but I lost about 50 pounds a few years ago and I've gone up and down since then...and I'm really trying not to gain any of it back again. I'd like to lose those last 5 pesky pounds though. Can't wait until Feb 1!

Oh no! It's down already? You just got online at home recently! Every once in awhile ours gets kicked offline somehow but we just have to unplug the modem, turn off the comp and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then we plug in the modem and start the comp and it's usually fine.

Thanks!!! JUst to let everyone know, the list was created randomly. I've suggested that you each contact each other through PM to discuss how you want to keep in touch and motivate one another and support one another. THat way it's specialized to what's easiest for you.

For the future, I'm not sure how we'll handle more people wanting to join, but I think we should keep it open. Let me know if you agree or disagree and any way you might suggest we go about it.

In a few days, I'm going to start a new thread so that we can keep each other updated with how things are going, anything that's really working well for us and that we would like to share with the other pairs.

If anyone has any difficulties with their buddy (in terms of contacting, or anything else) please feel free to PM me, and we'll see what can be done!!

Good luck with the weight loss everyone!!!!

I am! I'm having my last "fun" coffee this very minute!
I don't think I can totally go off coffee. I'm limiting myself to ONE regular coffee, plain no fun stuff.

We had left over birthday cake last night from FH's nephew's bday party. I told him, "That's it! Enjoy it while you can..."
He's doing this with me since he wants to lose a few lbs before the wedding.

Im not really going to change our eating habits at home. I usually cook pretty healthy, and we have veggies and salad every night. The kids have to finish thier salad or they don't eat thier dinner. It' silly, but they have no probs eating thier salad that way, and now, they love salad. Especially the boys. What I have to stop doing is hitting starbucks, and fast food. And drink more water!!!!!

Yeah, the water is a big thing! I have to start drinking more water!! At least, I've almost cut out the soda completely!! Less than a glass a day! lol... I'm trying to cut it out completely, but one thing at a time!

Maria is technically the one in charge, I hope I didn't commit a faux pas. I know KMS has been looking for a buddy for awhile now.

I sent the PM when I noticed Katie was looking for extra motivation at about noon today, before Meredith expressed interest. Argh, now we are back to odd numbers and I feel like it is my fault!

For now, the only thing that I could think of is assigning one of the three to someone who already has a buddy. That would only last as long as no one else wants to join. As soon as someone new wants to join, the person would be assigned back out to the new member. So, if you'd be willing to have 2 weight loss buddies, please PM me and let me know. As soon as I have a volunteer, I'll PM those of you without buddies and let you know who you've got. Sorry that it's so complicated!

Oh, I love that there's a weight loss buddies match-up on here! I've got lots of time before my wedding to get in shape, and that's definitely one of my goals. Is it too late to be matched up with a buddy? That would help so much with the motivation and encouragement.
