Hello guys!! I'm totally new to this site and I've been lurking and decided to join! This is my first post!

I have gone to the M.A.C. makeup counter for a makeover and loved it! I looked so beautiful! It's the first time anyone has ever done my makeup without me looking like a clown. I don't trust others to do my makeup and always done it myself. I purchased the products they use and of course tried to duplicate the look. I have come close but not exact. I still believe I did a great job. Do you think it's a good idea to do your makeup yourself on your wedding day????

I did my own makeup. Buying good makeup is the key, which you have already done. You also have six months to practice, do your wedding day face at least once a week and you will be an expert in no time. Also good, quality brushes make a huge difference and are so worth the investment.

First off welcome to one wed! I would love to hear about some of your plans and I'm glad you have decided to join us here!!

Actually, I think I am doing mine myself and ofcourse it is okay! I have a mary kay consultant...I have never had anyone do my makeup before but know i need to learn some new tricks. She has taught me how to take care of my skin, how to apply make up for everyday use, and is now working with me to teach me how to apply make up for special events and how make up needs to be applied for photographs as well. Personally, before I met her I didn't really know there was a difference and now I'm glad I know better! Some people feel more comfortable doing their own. I think it's more a personal preference!

I done my own makeup and felt better about it. I too always felt I looked like a clown if someone else done it for me. It was not my everyday look as I wanted something different but I practiced and got it right.

thanks ladyM!

I did buy some brushes at CVS:bbeek: ! They work ok. I just couldn't see after spending all that money on cosmetics to pay like the same amount in brushes. One of the brushes was like $36.00 for one! I will be testing once a week and taking pics to see if I will go that route.

it's funny you say that because I normally wear Mary Kay. I love Mary Kay and I used to be a consultant. I love Mary Kay for my everyday look because the makeup looks so naturally beautiful. I decided on the M.A.C. because I wanted something a little more dramatic. But I am a Mary Kay skin care individual for life!!!!!! I love TIME WISE!!!

Yes, I forgot to mention that. I didn't go with the highest end brushes as those can run over $250 for a set, I got a full set for about $40 at Sally Beauty Supply. The most important thing is that they are soft to the touch and not scratchy or hard. The brushes really made a big difference. Also look into the foundation brush, it also works wonders along with all the others.

BTW- welcome to onewed! :)

Welcome to OW! I did my own makeup, I bought Lancome, had 3 trial runs and the day of did it myself...everyone compliments me on how good it looked!

As usual our Melissa is right! The brushes make a HUGE difference. I bought mine from Lancome (expensive but a wedding present to myself LOL) I got the foundation brush and it makes a HUGE difference. The oils in your hands can transfer into the foudnation and your makeup will look oily if you use your hands, if you use a sponge it can "cake" on you...I loved my foundation brush...get one now and practice with it, I use the Lancome makeup remover and clean my brush in it after every use, then reshape and air dry!

thanks for the welcomes guys!!

ok - I got my foundation brush from CVS. Pretty decent. I never thought about Sally's. I practically live in there! I do like the look with the brush a whole heck of a lot bertter, than hands or sponge. It looks airbrushed so to speak. Are you guys doing like facial hiliters? bronzers? I'm scared of looking greasy/shiny.

Welcome!

I did my own make up the first time round but I opted to have someone do it the second. I had a referral and I loved the results.

Now .... if you love the way the MAC consultant did it for you, why not treat yourself (if you can afford to buy more MAC makeup that is) and have her do it again?

The key to not being greasy or shiny is pre-cleansing before application and good skincare before the big day...I did an at home "facial" on Thursday...got married on Saturday.

If you get the right kind of foundation for your skin and blot (DON'T RUB) your shiny areas with a facial tissue and then dab (again DON'T RUB, it causes caking) powder in shiny areas (mine was the "T" zone) as needed you'll be fine!
