Okay, so here's the thing. I desperately (for me) need to lose 20 lbs. I love yoga, and have all the accoutrements at home to do it, including a few tapes that I could follow along with if I didn't want to use the books, but I'm having a hard time getting motivated when I get home from work.

Anyone have any suggestions to get me motivated??lol

Just do it. I know that doesn't sound like much advice, but it works. Do everything you can to eliminate distractions, like have your workout clothes set out, have the tape in the VCR and set to go as soon as you get in the door. If you lack energy when you first come in, maybe pack a very light snack to eat just before you leave work or even in the car on the way home. I would recommend a handful of nuts and a piece of fruit or 4-6 oz. of 100% fruit juice. The calories will give you a bit of an energy boost and carry you through the workout, but not be so much as to weigh you down or make you sleepy and since you are eating about 30 mins before you begin, you won't be trying to digest something while doing yoga.

Once you actually start the workout, you are usually motivated to continue.

If that still doesn't seem to work, ask yourself if working out solo at home is the best method for you. You might be more motivated in a class, then you actually have a set, scheduled time to go and the fact that you signed up may keep you more accountable. There are also other people there and an instructor to help motivate you and keep you challenging yourself.

Home is also a place people naturally associate with relaxation. I get much better workouts at a gym. When I am there, that time is allocated to working out and working out hard. I neither have my phone with me nor will I notice some dust under the entertainment center while in down dog and then proceed to take care of it. There are less distractions at the gym, IMO.

In order to drop 20 lbs. you may want to add some cardio to your routine as well. Maybe do yoga two or three times per week and on alternating days do a cardio workout. Yoga is fantastic for strength and flexibility training, but does not raise the heart rate enough to burn fat or work the heart. Best wishes Maria, you can do it!

BTW- I would also like to be a fitness buddy!

I need motivation also. You'd think the wedding would be motivation enough but I keep noticing my little scale at the bottom of my page hasn't moved :bbconfused: I swore I would start in Jan. I guess there is still time left. How would we go about keeping eachother motivated? Cuz let me tell ya I need all the help I can get!

I thought I would do the same befor my wedding, and I really didn't do much. In fact, my dress was so tight, that I didn't wear a bra (which w my dress I could have). You get so busy w wedding planning, that you don't really think aobut losing weight.

I was the opposite, in the week between the time I picked up my dress after alterations and the wedding I was so busy and excited that I didn't have much time to eat and I nearly shrunk right out of my dress! LOL

I remember trying to force calories in left and right. We even went to the Chinese buffet and I was eating in large quantities and the dress was still looser than it was after alterations! LOL

Wow i hope that happens to me!

It's not as great as it may sound if you have a strapless dress, like I did. LOL

if we all had like a little compatition or something to get us motivated
That is a great idea!

I'm all for the idea of a weight loss buddy from OW!!! I think that's great!!

And, thanks, Melissa. I really have to get the dvd in the machine and just start it as soon as i've eaten when i get home. A weight loss buddy to yell at me if I don't do my workout, and for me to yell at as well!! We should definitely start this!!

I'm going to start a thread to see who would be interested in being weight loss buddies, and ideas about the best way to keep each other motivated!!!

I often have a hard time getting motivated to work out and when I do I can't seem to stick to it for long enough to see any results. I have good weeks and bad weeks.

I tried yoga for a while, but didn't loose any weight, so I got discouraged. I think yoga is better for toning and stress relief.

I have done better with food and eating smaller portions and I do walk my dogs at least once a day (unless it is too cold or it rains) so that helps some. I have a couple of exercise videos, a stationary bike and all the free weights I'd ever need, I just need to make a plan and stick to it.

I am not going to compete though ;)
