Hi! I just read this posted by Melissa in another thread,When you workout make sure you are working hard enough, your heart rate has to stay very high throughout the duration of the workout. Try for 75% of your maximum heart rate (your max is 220 minus your age).

I just wanted to say, the max i can get my heart rate to is 125bpm is that enough?? i know its hard for me to lose weight and my metabolisms slow all because of my thyroid but i really need to know that im still doing some good! At rest, my heart can go as low as 54 bpm! lol (thats why i think i need more thyroxine lol)

Actually a low resting heart rate is very good. People in excellent shape have very low resting heart rates, I have heard of some Olympic athletes who's RHR is in the 40s, possibly lower.

I know nothing about thyroid issues, so you may want to ask your doctor if you can raise your heart rate. The only way I know to raise your workout heart rate is to work harder, run or pedal faster, if you are power walking on a treadmill use the incline feature. Your heart rate will sky rocket at a 15% incline even if you are only walking at 3.5 mph, if that isn't enough increase the speed and incline until you get there.

Most of the HR monitors at the gyms I have been in are not accurate at all, so you may want to invest in your own. For you, provided it's advisable for your heart rate to get this high you should aim to stay around 146-150 beats per minute (I think you are 25), you can even do sprints and get it as high as possible. I typically get mine in the 180s and then recover to the 160s (for a minute) and then sprint again.

Thankyou! when i got my heart rate up as much as i could, i went dizzy and felt faint lol!! but then again, if the moniters aint accurate, maybe it was higher! i think i will get my own thanks Melissa! :)

I also forgot to mention you can take your own heart rate. Find your pulse and take it for 10 seconds and multiply by 6 or take it for 15 sec. and multiply by 4. I have never had any success with this method, but many do.

If you feel dizzy or nauseous back off immediately to a lower level. Don't stop completely, keep moving a little (walk around) and keep your head above your heart so you don't pass out. When you have recovered you can pick it back up, unless you are completely worn out. Eventually you will get stronger.

I usually do take my own pulse rate but dont think i could while im exercising!lol, When i felt dizzy i did just slow back down and i was ok again! I think i'll ask my doctor whats the best heart rate for me!
